Adventure Idea: You are at IKEA, reading out the strange names they give stuff. Suddenly, you mispronounce something and accidentally summon a Cthulhian horror.

You scared the literal pants off me!

So I Googled it and have an answer that was confirmed on two separate sites, but since we have a resident expert, I'll give it a try:

Captain Yesterday: The party is planning on having the orphanage kids dig trenches, pits, and other defenses.

Question: How many cubic feet of dirt could a grown man reasonably dig in a day? If I handed you a shovel and a pick, and someone else was running the wheelbarrow, how big of a hole do you think you could make in a single day?

Strange. I though people transformed into elves and dwarves as well.

Wasn't the goblinization the first step? I thought that elves and dwarves showed up later than that?

Or was that the other way around?

EDIT: Ok, it was the other way around. Elves and dwarves should have been being born since 2011... Maybe all those who were already born have features close enough to human children that we haven't recognized them yet.

15-20 feet diameter, a foot deep.

Do the PCs have any scrolls/wands of either Expeditious Excavation or Unseen Servant?

You are Da Man!!!

Both sources said around 100-110 cubic feet, but they were going to a depth of 4-6 feet. A 20-foot diameter hole is 314 cubic feet, but only to a depth of 1 foot. I consider the two numbers amazingly close -- digging deeper is harder and will slow you down.

And Marc, no, and I don't want to encourage them.

They have this whole idea of, "We can dig enough holes and build enough barricades that we'll be able to hold them off."

I'm trying to get some concrete numbers together to convince them to try something else.

Not For My Players' Eyes:
I am not a "kill them all if they don't behave" GM. I have a bailout scenario. But I hate bailout scenarios. I've been ecstatic that so far they've fought CR+4 fights without needing any of the bailouts, so they don't even know that I'm doing it.

On the other hand, I'm pretty proud of this particular bailout. Even Shiro thinks it's pretty cool.

"So... mute little girl, filthy, psychologically scarred, terrified of everything. Every player's seen Aliens. They're all going to think 'Newt'.

Now, suppose Newt could one-shot the alien queen..."

EDIT: And no, I'm not a complete jerk. She's just a high-level bard. Haste, Inspire Courage, and Inspire Heroics had better darned well save the PCs' bacon, or they really messed up, but it's still the PCs performing all the actions and rolling all the dice. Just with bonuses. Many, many, many bonuses. Bards OP. Shiro was just his usual annoying self: "You know, with that many hit dice she could just walk up and beat all the bandits to death with her tiny little fists. It's not like she needs anyone else."
No, no, no! Not the point!!!!

Rebuttal to Shiro's idea:
Quote:
Shiro was just his usual annoying self: "You know, with that many hit dice she could just walk up and beat all the bandits to death with her tiny little fists. It's not like she needs anyone else."

She might have a lot of HD, which will give her excellent attack bonus and a load of hit points. She still hits for 1d2 (Small)+Strength modifier (negative, I presume)+her inspire courage bonus (as long as she can keep it up). How much it is in total? 1d2+3? Once she is out of bardic performance and other buffing spells she will inflict 1 point of nonlethal damage per attack.

And if she did take out multiple bandits, she would make herself a viable target. What's her AC? 12? 15? They would hit her and erode her HD-derived hit points, regardless of how much HD she has.

Oh, by the way, unless she had Improved Unarmed Strike... First* of her attacks each turn is preceded by attacks of opportunity from all adjacent enemies. Likely inlficting more damage on her, than she inflicted on the target—even if she takes out the target with that hit.
*and if some bandits have Combat Reflexes, it might apply more than once per turn.

High level does not warrant great power unless optimized, and when optimized then it's still crucial, for what she was specifically optimized. Melee combat (yes, you can build a terrific melee bards but they rely highly on having time to self-buff and time their buffs rights for max effect) or buffing others?

Also, Pathfinder is very gear-sensitive game, especially when it comes to defense.

This is true, the further down you dig the more rocks and s$$$ you find.

Tropical locales actually have less rocks in the soil usually so you can dig about a third more than you could in Wisconsin.

Ok, that's a big difference.

Spoiler:
Between her AC and DR, she should be able to breeze through the opponent's attacks without much of scratch BUT stories told by surviving bandits about a girl that could not be harmed would definitely attract unwanted attention.

During this weekend, there is a special action in multiple cities where you can get Johnson & Johnson vaccine without prior registration in certain points.

After some considerations I thought that I might as well go, despite the rain and having to spend half an hour in tram (for a total of an hour there and back). Only after I dressed it occured to me to check if media mention anything...

Yeah, apparently there was a queue of over 1 thousand people waiting an hour ago, and growing. There was supposed to be 2.5 thousand vaccine doses intended for three days.

I am not sure if I want to get cold standing on rain for hours for a high possibility of not getting vaccinated.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

On the other hand, maybe at least some of those folks were already registered elsewhere and will free some earlier dates...

The free spots for registration change from hour to hour anyway.

Had Mephisto been kneading the rug before or after the visit?

He does that regularly. Sleeping on the couch is part of his evening routine and he then kneads the rug. Normally he also makes mrew mrew sounds, but not when you look at him. I think he's self concious then. Just keeps kneading but doesnt make a sound.

The vet visit went better then expected. We had taken Merah before who just acts like she is the queen and the vet office is also her domain.

We were scared however Mephisto would put up a fight. And he is STRONG. But he was really timid the whole time, only fighting with the carrier when we had just put him in.
And when we let him out back home we were scared he'd relaps and go into hiding, sit behind the washing machine for a day. But he was not that happy and a bit skittish, but he kept being around the house all day. So that is good! Progress for poor traumatized Mephisto!

I tried ice cream cake for the first time yesterday, I did not like it.

All it does is make ice cream worse. There wasn't even any cake, just ice cream and some sort of topping crap in the middle.

So, I'd rate ice cream cake as vastly overrated and not worth the time or effort to eat much less purchase or to make yourself.

I went for my first haircut for months today, and I went to the Hipster Barbers next to the health food shop and the gym. The barber looked at me and said 'Aha, what this fellow needs is an Old Man's Blow-Dried Mini Pompadour', so that's what I got, although it diminished in volume somewhat after a couple of hours of sweaty rapier & dagger practice.

So far the side effects of the covid vaccine are pretty minimal, but it's only the first dose.

The hardest thing to overcome is my own overriding fear of needles. Which makes me an extremely difficult patient.
