Wild West politics:There was that notorious social media post from a mayor of a Texan town claiming that anyone expecting a power company to provide power to the people paying them, or elected officials to be responsible to their constituents, has been brainwashed by SOCIALISM and show some proper pioneer spirit by going out and milking a cactus or something. He has since resigned, presumably because that's too much Texas for anybody
My mental image now is that he suddenly froze, mid-rant, and then exploded from the overload, showering the surrounding area with cow poop, oil, and teeny cowboy hats.

WandaVision has set the bar pretty high on my TV expectations, but I'd chip in to kickstart this reboot of The Brady Bunch.

I know this isn't actually her, but when I first saw
this article, I thought, "Gee, was it Nobody's Mom?"

I'm hoping Percy can roll over there and dust off Oppy's solar panel. Of course, that might not be the best idea.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered all the dry goods I need from Costco. And, surprise surprise, the price was utterly reasonable and within the realm of "typical Costco".
So it's getting someone to pick up all your refrigerated/frozen stuff that tacks on the 40% fee.
I'll live with my local corner store, thanks.

In other news, they have officially confirmed what I already knew, i.e. I have THE PLAGUE, which is why I 've been self-isolating since Sunday. It's far from fun, but I'm just tired, snotty and a bit feverish - I don't require any medical attention, thank goodness.
Ugh. So sorry.

Who's going to fight crime in your absence?!
Will Ireland become the next Texas!
More at eleven.

So, if you've ever worked on the buying side of retail, the formula is fairly standard: Buy something wholesale, mark it up 50%, and sell it retail. It was true back in 1991 when we sold VHS tapes at the video store. I was surprised and pleased to learn it was true at the butcher counter at the corner store. (He sold me a Costco lamb shoulder where he hadn't removed the previous price tag so I got to see the exact markup, and it was roughly 50%.)
Apparently, not all products are created equal.
I was surprised when I saw that the corner store was charging me $7.89 for a king-sized box of Cheerios; it seemed rather steep. So I just put Cheerios on my Costco list and TWO king-sized boxes were $6.99, with a $3 delivery fee for "special handling" (i.e., don't put the Cheerios under the bowling balls). Even then, Cheerios work out to $4.995 a box from Costco, so the $7.89 represents a 58% markup.
I'm sure there's a reason for it (low throughput, large amount of shelf space, or whatnot), but it does have me thinking, "C'mon, guys! I already know I pay a premium to keep you in business and support local jobs and commerce, but does it really need to be over 100%?"

Sorry.

Today my cat decided to sit in a dresser drawer while we were folding laundry. Not the first time she has done that.
What was a first was that she figured out she could squeeze behind the drawer and sit on the clothes in the closed drawer beneath it. That took some coaxing to get her out. Never a dull moment.

User can't log into a remote computer. (For those who care, this is a VMWare VDI situation. For whatever reason the admins didn't join a machine name to the domain, and the system is insisting on trying to assign this machine to this user.)
Offshore Tech doesn't touch the ticket for 2 hours. User's manager complains to me. Offshore Tech immediately says "We're looking into it."
Hour later. Manager complains to me again. I look at the ticket again, and see that it has been escalated up to the VMWare support team. As it should be. Took too long to get to that point, but it's where it needs to be.
Manager then explains to me this:
"Well, it started as a VDI problem, but then she realized she had this new computer that you guys had sent her and she had never set it up. So she took down the old computer and started putting the new one together and she got stuck. So she needs help with that. And the VDI thing."
I go back through the records, and she received that new computer 2 months ago.
Just...why...

Okay, fellas, just to make a small suggestion... it's not always about what you can google or find on wikipedia, sometimes it's about your own personal connection to a character or an anecdote you remember.
I was actually in a conversation on the Dallas Co. [Redacted] Party FB page earlier today, when a young'un was asking what the big deal was about Governor Ann Richards, anyhow. An older woman told her to "read the bio". I shared what I remembered as a college student in Texas during her term, which was more about feeling than googleable facts. Others followed. Is there any chance that there might be value in something similar here?

Pfft...Human Interactions and Feelings.
On the more serious side of it, yes, you are absolutely correct. It matters.
Like I said, I'm in a bad mood because of work. Ok, let me rephrase: I'm in a worse mood than normal due to issues directly related to work. Freehold asked for quotes from a character and my first jaded thought was simply: "That's something you can Google."
