I actually felt similarly about European foods, but exposure over a period of years changed that. My guess is that it’s partially about what people get used to, and partially about inherent preferences. There are definitely things that I find Europe better, but some just... not. My experience in chocolate is that 'Merikuns and Brits prefer the creaminess and sweetness, so they want milk chocolate with lots of sugar and cream, and the loss of chocolate flavor doesn't bother them because it's just an enhancer, not the entire experience.
In other European countries (and in my preferences), it's the chocolate flavor that's the experience; you only want enough sugar and milk to offset the bitterness and you're good.
Of course, I drink strong black coffee as well, so I'm just not a fan of sugar and cream in pretty much anything.
As someone that does not like bitter things in general, I actually do like dark chocolate (from both places) and tea (albeit I prefer my tea sweetened). So that's a no-go.

Even worse is that it's gone from, "I know I know that one!" to, "Oh, that's Parasite. That's Attack on Titan. That's The Ancient Magus' Bride."
The disturbing thing is that it really does seem like Pandora's accessing my CrunchyRoll account to determine what I've watched and playing theme songs accordingly, and it's like, "Really, guys? Could you be any more obvious that you're tracking my every move?"

In a nutshell, this sums up everything that's wrong with our politics today: "I identify as a <Political Party>, and I'm going to support that party, right or wrong, no matter what atrocities they perpetrate."
It's just... nauseating that anyone could think that way.
There is not a single person or organization on this planet I could name where I would ever answer, "There is nothing this person could do to lose my approval."
Everyone has limits. Everyone has lines that cannot be crossed. The notion that people are willing to proclaim absolute loyalty to a party without even thinking about such things is beyond depressing.

Man, I had a whole honest, genuine reflection here, and realized that it has no place here.
Suffice it to say that I hate it when people from any side become so blinded by their own view that they begin to demonize folks simply for not holding their view strongly enough. I have no problem disagreeing. But actively ascribing morality to someone who disagrees with you is... disheartening, no matter who does it, and no matter what their view.
You don't help people by hating them. Love helps people.
Disagree with them, sure. Despise their particular actions, yes.
Hating a person helps no one, and demonizing them helps nothing.
Unless we're discussing literal Nazis or similar hate groups, in which case, fire away - those guys suck.

In lighter news...
(1) PG&E announced another round of blackouts due to high winds and high temperatures
(2) People went to PG&E's web site for more information
(3) PG&E's web site could not handle the load and crashed.
You know, when you're announcing to 15-20 million people that you may be cutting their power, shouldn't you kind of, y'know, expect 15-20 million hits on your site?

Some good news today. WW finally called the California Department of Whatever the Heck and found out that even though they've been making lots of very threatening noises, they can't actually garnish his wages because he's no longer employed in California. They are theoretically able to take money out of our California-based bank account, but when we complete the transition to the credit union here, they won't be able do it. Also they're actually still willing to talk about a repayment plan. Right now it seems like the worst we are facing is the fact that they plan to seize our IRS refund in the spring and every subsequent spring until the debt is paid. Which I can plan around.
And I finally got my parent teacher conference reports finished and submitted the last one at 8:30 this morning, so now I can actually relax a bit and maybe even sleep.

(I’ve heard it from my side enough that I’ve internalized the terrible, terrible rhetoric as, “just what we’re doing now for reasons I am too baffled to understand.” - it’s rhetoric I refuse to participate in because it’s dumb in general and <very specific politics>, but it feels excessively common, at present.)

Cleaning out my phone contacts today, I discovered that I have Sarah McLachlan's mobile number. Yes, the Sarah McLachlan of SPCA I Will Remember You [in]fame[y]. Well, my bestie has phone interviewed her twice, so I'm reasonably sure I somehow got her number through him. Not sure whether he sent it to me accidentally, or I stole it at some point.
Now what to do with this information? Mwahahahahaha...

And holy hell's bells, I had no idea this issue was so controversial. Our county recorder (who handles elections) was the first to speak, and he argued for filing the suit and opening our primaries, and then for like an hour Democrats were lining up at the microphone to argue one way or another. I know some people hate debate, but I loved it!
And the vote was close enough that the leadership had to actually count votes, because it wasn't just a huge chorus of yay/nay opposed by one guy shouting the opposite, as it usually is.
Anyway, do what you feel is best my dude; but I bet you'd find allies and even friends in my group of schmucks.

This question is completely random, and will mean nothing to FaWtLers outside the USA, but I'm taking an informal survey related to a minor running joke in the book I'm working on.
The topic is Thanksgiving turkey *stuffing*, and the plot point has to do with pinatas and turkey farming and a protagonist with a screw loose, and we're just not going to go there right now.
I'm looking for a percentage of folks that go with what I think of as the "traditional" sage-onion-and-celery (or, more accurately, celery, onion, and "poultry seasoning"), and of those folks, the subset that add mushrooms. (My mother's family, for example, is staunchly pro-mushroom, and only sourdough croutons will do, but they had been in northern California since the late 1800's.)
If your family does something other than this, say with cornbread, or chestnuts, or oysters, or sausage, would you please say what the main ingredients are/were, and what region of the country your family comes from?

We have two different stuffings at my mother's side's festivities, and they won't tell you ahead of time which is which.
One is the traditional stuffing you're thinking of, but some years it has mushrooms and some years it doesn't.
The other one looks exactly the same, but it has oysters and mushrooms. This one is made exclusively by my uncle through marriage (Mom's brother-in-law). He's from the exact same town I grew up in. East Central IL, about 40-45 miles north of Champaign-Urbana.

Can confirm. I am definitely 100% in it for the sweetness, with white/fake chocolate being my favorite of the bunch, followed by milk chocolate, and dark chocolate in dead last.
The fact that there's this difference in desire/expectation between American chocolate and European chocolate explains a lot about why I don't like the latter that I've never been able to understand before. I've had a lot of European chocolates recommended to me, usually from small stores that sell specialty or foreign products, and never been a huge fan because it's always too bitter.

Which essentially comes out to the same thing - it doesn't really matter what X does or how bad they are, so long as they are opposed to the thing Y supports/in support of the thing Y is opposed to, they get the votes of the people in question.
{Thing} is usually one of the classing single-issue-voter classics: abortion rights, marriage laws, gun rights, immigration, religious politics, etc. Unsurprisingly.
Croutons, onions, celergy, and...maybe the odd other ingredient or two? I don't like onions or celergy and I don't make the stuffing so I can't say for sure. We're all east-coasters, of the northern variety.
