Thank you. I'm putting up this link next time someone wants fighters to be able to cast spells by making farting noises. :)
Actually, I can just use my printer and print a copy for each person.

This is my last comment on the situation, promise.
If you don't like something in your game, ninjas, samurai, guns, I have a solution.
Make your changes and be happy.
Ross and the gang, if this isn't allowed by OGL, please inform me of it.
In another thread, I suggested that I may do something like this. Interesting that we are on the same wavelength- or did I give you the idea?
I'm cool as a cumcumber with boomsticks and ninja. Mo' boomsticks is mo' bettah. It's the profilferation of cheesecake that I dislike, as you know. Printing the PFRD and inserting panels of art that I actually like would rock. I'd make my own laminated slipcase or jacket for the tome, too.

Alternatively, they could just...I don't know...not use the offending content, but I'm sure that violates some civil rights clause somewhere so I'll just keep my suggestions to a minimum. I think many complainants simply fear and despise anything that shakes their perception of "D&D classic". Maybe a lack of imagination?

It has been suggested elsewhere that the offended parties can just not use the classes and rules presented. Apparently even having the rules in the book is unacceptable. Something about having to pay money for stuff they don't want. This way, they can pick exactly what they want, and change names they don't like, i.e. Ninja to Assassin.

You might have? I forget how it came about. Something about finding Blurb and geeking out over printing up Kirth's rules in a shiny hardcover, then remembering "hey Lulu does that too!" plus my group needing 3.5 PHBs and thinking "we can just print our own instead of paying EBay prices".

I might just get one done with pictures of boobs replacing all the art and naughty wingdings replacing the text. ;-)

THIS is the attitude that baffles me more than anything. I will not take the time to tell anyone they are wrong for not liking the ninja, or guns in their campaign. Thats their belief and dag nabbit, its their game, they don't like them they don't have to use them.
What I cant fathom is the crowd who is so against rules others obviously like that they scream and hollar for them NOT to be included AT ALL. Its a downright selfish attitude, and it really surprises me. Seems shades of "I don't like this so NO ONE should get them!" to me.
I like the new stuff added, even though I feel guns are as written a stupid way to go. I do NOT like psionics, and wouldn't buy any official Paizo psionics book. Am I going to demand Paizo not eventually put out the book just because I don't like it? Not at all. And please, dont get derailed about my dislike of psioncs, thats for another thread! :)
The only case I can understand is those who play in PFS, but the caveat here is you are NOT playing in "your" campaign, you are playing in the official Paizo world. THEY have made THEIR choice about what they want to have in THEIR world, you are just along for the ride! Sure, Paizo is an awesome company who listens to and utilizes their fanbase for feedback into this world, but in the end for official PFS, its their call. Just like any rules are for your home campaign.

One thing that has puzzled me for quite some time is why we don't have a flood of "Heartbreaker" versions of the OGL?
The Heartbreakers were a slew of games that came out in the 80's and 90's that were intended to be "D&D, but better" and would often be filled with wonderfully awful art and weird mixtures of hard core simulationism mixed in with odd ball takes on fantasy.
You'd think with the OGL you'd have a massive amount of people who would go in and make their grand variation upon it and unleash it to the world, particularly since all of the heavy lifting is already done. You have the rules, you have a market, all you need is the crazed passion to try and publish your vision.
There is a lot of stuff out there that technically could fall into the overall idea of the heartbreaker. True20, Trailblazer, Fantasy Craft, etc. But all of those have sound and thorough design goals. What I'm wondering about is where are all the crazed, unbalanced screeds to a particular geek's imaginary world?

It could be lots worse. Not safe for work.

It's a game.
It's a game I really like, and I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about it, but nevertheless, it's just a game.
I have no interesting Ninja and Samurai classes, and I'll never use a Gunslinger outside of Alkenstar. But who cares? That whole book won't affect my ongoing campaign. It won't ruin the fun of the game for me. My players can buy it if they like, and come to me with any feats or abilities that they want to include. I'll veto or not.
I really like the idea of an open playtest, but every time it happens, I find myself resenting the forums.
I hope that anyone reading this is a GM or a cooperative player who will heed my advice: go work on your own game, play it, and stop wasting effort for disembodied voices on the internet. <hypocrisy nod>
| Hexcaliber |
This is a place where people can express opinions. Even unpopular, incoherent or even incomplete ones. The open playtest is to get a feel for what people, as a majority, want from the game. I may disagree with most if what gets said or even printed, but to discourage people from expressing their opinions, to tell them to keep it quiet, is irresponsible at the least, oppressive at the most.
If everyone could speak with eloquence then what a wonderful world this would be. Forgive those less gifted in expression, you may find gold in that river of bile.

Expressing your opinion is fine. Demanding changes is not. I learned that in the original beta. Nowhere here have I said 'shut up'. If you infered that, I apologize. This is merely me sharing the solution I have come up with myself, and hoping that those who 'will not buy a book with guns/ninja/Ralph Nader in it' find this an acceptable alternate use of their money.

If someone is making an *incoherent* argument, telling them "please make a stronger effort to articulate your opinion so we can make this a better product" is neither irresponsible or oppressive.

Never even implied it was. It's the idea that some people feel validated just by telling others to "shut up", or "don't put that in the game".
And if people actually said "please make a stronger effort to articulate your opinion so we can make this a better product" then we would have civil debates instead of flame trebuchets being fired off towards our nether bits.
Paizo (and you) have shown me that you're more than capable of sifting through the madness for coherence. It's a skill I wish the rest of us could learn.

While some people (the vast minority of those complaining) may be saying for Paizo to not publish the material in question, most are not.
Most people that are complaining are stating they dislike the type of material (steam punk type, and oriental style type) being places in Martial based book.
They are also not telling Paizo to publish the book with that material (or at least most of the complainers are not), but they are saying they will most likely not buy a book that includes that material.
I like the new stuff added, even though I feel guns are as written a stupid way to go. I do NOT like psionics, and wouldn't buy any official Paizo psionics book. This is a forum to talk about, and to Paizo, it is silly for the customers to be told, or informed to not talk about something they dislike just like it would be silly of them to be told to not talk about something they like. Paizo needs to be informed, love or hate.

I look forward to most first party (Paizo in this case) published books. *Especially* with Paizo, I am reasonably assured that it has been playtested into the dirt and most loopholes and language-exceptions are closed. (This is also why I almost always avoid third party publishers...)
Having said that, I am glad that Paizo is publishing rules I will probably never use: Ninja and Samurai. Why am I glad they are publishing stuff that is useless to me? Because if it is good product, others will buy it. The more Paizo can continue to market themselves, the longer they will stay in business :)
When it comes right down to it, *we* the Audience get what we ask for. If we buy it, we have spoken with our wallets. If we don't, well...
I will gladly tolerate some misses if the majority of shots are hits. :)
And, one last point, as a player and GM, I will continue to ignore/not use any rules/settings that I don't think fit, or are extraneous at best. As long as PFRPG is not a competive game, there is no requirement to use all, or have access to all the goodies we are given.

The selfish attitude essentially is if they can bully Paizo not to include the material they don't like, Paizo would have to put in different material (presumably material they would like) to make up the page count.

Look, if I can ignore the stipulation that animals must be stupid in the core rulebook, and read the rules of familars that they are not really normal animals, but animal versions of Eidolons, then I can get the new book and just ignore gunslingers. So can anybody else. Just because it's in a book, doesn't mean you have to allow it in your game.
