Perhaps he left to see some of the world, or as part of a trading group? Just brainstorming...Personally, I like the idea of a young dwarf being away from home, and just wanting to get out and see the world. Maybe Valgar started out in Bargarsport as his first stop, and then found out about Maeve's journey to Lessef. Interested in seeing the country, he volunteered to come along. Just my thoughts, feel free to disregard any or all, if you want.
Sounds good to me.

So, Valen and Narcisse have a connection already. Maeve has a reason to hit the road, and Tally and Valgar are along for the ride. Atticus will be met along the way. How do the Valen/Narcisse tag team hook up with the Maeve/Tally/Valgar stable as they head out from Bargarsport?
At a guess, Maeve is looking to bulk up the group before trying to take a 250 mile trip on foot along a mountain range. Valen and Narcisse are newly out of the Kajaani Forest, and if Maeve and Narcisse knew each other before (as was suggested above), it's understandable that Maeve would recruit her friend the magic-user, especially since she has an elf along. The combination seems perfect for the trip. It's as if it were designed that way!

Maybe Maeve/Ben could help you out, he's got a good mind for this stuff.
Yeah, I'll look them over this weekend and compare to my copy of S&W. Are there any house rules beyond the using the White Box Elf variant rule that I should be aware of?
Poor S&W. It attempted to be the simplest version of the game, but it's now gotten split into three separate rulesets: White Box, Core Rule, and soon Complete Rulebook.

I gave the character sheets a look through, and here's what I found:
Atticus: Doesn't take into account his -1 penalty to hit (melee) and damage due to low strength.
Valgar: Saving Throw listed as 16, should be 14.
Narcisse: Lists a +1 Hit due to Intelligence. Maybe I just missed a rule, but I don't see where this comes from.
All the rest looked good to me, although I'll admit I didn't dig deep into encumbrance or if they had the right amount of gold...I just eyeballed those.

Awesome, thank you very much! Don't worry about every last penny and pound, I would have just eyeballed those too!
BTW, I agree with your findings, so if those mentioned could have a look to double check these issues, I'd appreciate it.

I know! If the Complete Rulebook was out already, I'd have probably purchased the PDF and used that for this game. ;)

I've got the S&W Core rules...says level 1 clerics get save 14, magic-users get 15, fighting-man gets 16. Am I missing something here?
The version I have (Third Printing (Internet Version) - July 2009) has the level 1 fighting-man save at 14, cleric at 15, magic-user at 15 (but saves at +2 vs. spells, including those cast from wands or staffs).

I'm about to be offline for a bit over 24 hours. Dinner in Kuwait city tonight, followed by a tour of CSA's facilities in Northern Kuwait. If you still want to get started today, you can let Nathan/Atticus control Maeve for the first portion. I trust him not to kill her off, and it sounds like he wasn't going to be a part of the group immediately.
See you when I return!

Er, is this thing on?Why do I feel like Onimar Synn is Ashton Kutcher and we've just been on an episode of Punk'd ?
I was starting to feel that way Monday evening, but I'd just had the same thing happen to me with a Serpent's Skull PbP. So I was feeling a bit sensitive. (The SS PbP was the same sort of thing--someone w/no previous posting history on the boards pops up offering to run PbP, picks players, gets the game set up, and vanishes. In the aftermath, I heard about two more similar instances.)
Anyway, I'm going to treat it as another learning experience. Nice RP'ing with you all, and will no doubt see you elsewhere on the boards.

I tell you what...if he doesn't re-appear by the end of the week, I'm thinking of grabbing the adventures (or perhaps another old-school adventure), and stepping into the DM role. Sound good to everyone?
Sounds good to me, Ben.
