Maeve Steel is the daughter of a blacksmith. She was born in a small village that was frequently raided by goblin. She lived a relatively normal life until a few years ago, when a goblin raid mortally wounded her father. Luckily, a traveling priest of Arden (one of the few that remain) was nearby, and saved him. Impressed by his actions, Maeve quit her job as a barmaid at the local tavern, and asked the priest to teach her in the ways of the Sun god. She traveled with him for several years, until he decided to settle down and perhaps try to build a temple to Arden. Recently she has been having strange dreams that she thinks are a message from Arden. On an almost nightly basis, Maeve dreams of boiling black clouds filling the sky like an impenetrable thunderstorm. Strange visions of battles, a broken scepter and a cadaverous figure haunt her when she awakes. Somehow, she just knows that Arden is directing her to Lessef, and the temple of Freya there...
Maeve is about 5'6" tall, with short black hair, weighing approximately 135 lbs. She weilds a sun staff, the traditional weapon of priest of Arden. It is a staff tipped on one end with a bronze sphere representing the sun containing an ankh and on the other end with a bronze hawk head. It functions as both her primary weapon and her holy symbol. She also wears a secondary weapon, a heavy mace, hanging at her side from a belt. She wears plate mail, with a golden ankh in front of a brilliant sun painted on the breastplate.
Other than her priestly obligations, she's also a decent waitress/barmaid. Working in the tavern, she managed to pick up enough of the dwarven and elven languages to be considered fairly fluent. She also managed to pick up some of the goblin language due to her village's proximity to a tribe of goblins. She also knows a bit about the blacksmithing trade, learned from her father.
