I've seen a few references to a place called the Nahari Desert (mainly in regards to Trilochan), but I can't seem to find anything that says where that is on Golarion - any thoughts?

Also, are there any hand/sign languages on Golarion other than "Pathfinder hand signal" that appears in the Field Guide?

Thanks!

Neither the "Nahari Desert" or "Trilochan" ring any bells in my head, which means that neither is currently all that big a deal, and without knowing where those references you saw came from, I can have no thoughts about them.

There's a hand/sign language in the Darklands called Sakvroth, and a language of thumps and raps (a mix of morse code and signing) called Canto, also from the Darklands. I'm sure there are other various regional sign languages as well but we've not done much with them yet.

Trilochan is a 3-eyed gold dragon spawn of Rovagug (I just looked that up on the Wiki). Would that mean that the Nahari Desert is likely in Casmaron?

The Narhari (so spelled) desert is in Vudra, which is indeed in Casmaron. (ISWG, p.206)

Trilochan is a Sanskrit word meaning "three-eyed."

Draconic sound like guttural growls and snorts and roars and rumbles.

James Jacobs wrote:

One of the changes we made to paladins in Pathfinder was that we specifically wrote down IN THE TEXT that a paladin can work with an evil ally in order to achieve a greater good. The relaxing of the "paladins can never knowingly work with an evil ally" rule is something that we really wanted to do, because that rule in 3rd edition kept cramping the style of a lot of games and adventures. It made paladins the most intolerant of classes to use in an adventure... it in fact made them more difficult to use in a party on average than an assassin, and that's goofy, in my opinion.

So we relaxed those strictures. After all... if a paladin can adventure in the same party as a chaotic good character, why couldn't she adventure in a party with a lawful evil character? Both chaotic good and lawful evil are equally far from lawful good, after all. The paladin would just need to keep her eye on her evil and chaotic companions to make sure that they kept their evil and chaotic urges under control, and keep in mind that working with these companions is for the greater law and/or the greater good.

And since Council of Thieves was the first Pathfinder adventure, and since both Seelah and Seltyiel are good fits on their own for a Cheliax adventure... we put them together to drive home without a shadow of a doubt that Paizo says "it's okay for a paladin to adventure with an evil ally."

Cool! I'd not thought of that, a deliberate statement, I'd just thought it was to introduce some nice intraparty dynamics for RPing.

And I'd never considered that, as you say, LE and CG are both the same "distance" from LG... Just a bias of assuming that Good vs Evil is the "real" ideological battle, and that Law and Chaos somehow weren't as virulently opposed.

Which is silly, as I've read a bit of Marvel's Civil War, which I guess can be seen through that lens.

Would you ever consider doing an AP that is based on the opposition of Law and Chaos, with both Good and Evil on both sides? That would blow my mind, I reckon, and it would probably be something pretty different for most players as well (although I guess many would see having to conform to one side of the Law/Chaos axis as more difficult than the Good/Evil thing).

Imagining that you did publish something like that, what would you consider more fun - the PCs all being aligned with Law, or Chaos (neutrals being acceptable either way)? And why?

EDIT: Totally ninja'd by DR (by hours!).. Please, ignore my questions, which you've already answered :) And thanks for the detailed response!

Are there currently any plans for Gargantuan/Colossal sized bases and pawns? If not, do you have any good recommendations for representing them on a standard battlemat? Thanks for your time!

Mine too! I posted it for the comparison to other minis. It looks to be about an 8x8 base and is, as far as I know, the only colossal mini ever made. I'm not familiar with older minis and products though, so it's possible other colossal minis were made.

1) Gross. No.

2) In theory, yes.

3) We don't really cover gestation periods in the game. Unless there's a story reason to assume otherwise, you can either assume it's the same as humans, or you can just pick what seems right for the story you want to tell.

4) A little faster than humans.

5) Because there were more ogres than hill giants. And because ogres are easier to boss around than hill giants. And because ogres are less powerful and thus less dangerous and thus more appropriate for less powerful giant masters to mess with.

6) That's the GM's decision. XP only really apply to PCs. NPCs get to level up as often or not as the GM wishes. If you want to train wizards and you're an evil overlord, you should have (or steal) a well-funded and well-stocked wizard school, along with all the things you need to keep in going (like food and water supplies, spell component supplies, etc.).

7) I would say yes. Unless the story I wanted to tell worked better without.

8) I'm not sure why you're worried or concerned about antagonistic spells... are you concerned that you'll make your players angry by using "cheesy" spell combos? Anything that removes or could perhaps destroy (even if temporarily) PC gear is pretty much the #1 way to annoy your players, in any event, regardless of the overall combo. And in the end... I'm not the one who gets to decide if something is antagonistic. The antagonized-to-be gets to decide that.

9) There's no reason why not. Except, of course, not wanting to include those elements in a game.

10) In place of what?

Nope; no plans at this point. Gargantuan and Colossal pawns would require us to build two new sizes of base, and we don't have those built so that would be very expensive. It would also be problematic shipping them, since they're so big and awkward in size.

What I use for big monsters like that are generally toys that aren't meant to be RPG minis in the first place. Plastic dinosaurs, bugs, critters, dolls, and all sorts of things are the right size for all sorts of creatures.

I know you're not a big reader of comics but you might enjoy The Invisibles by Grant Morrison.

It involves a group of chaotic people fighting against the highly organised forces of law. Their best weapon is their own chaos and the thing which makes them the good guys is that they want the 'war' to end in a way that means everybody wins, even their foes.

Sound interesting?

Anyway, I didn't get an answer to my last question. Maybe rephrasing it will help.

As long as the target is within the spell parameters (100 cu. ft./level), can polymorph any object be used in place of the following spells?:

1. Fabricate

2. Mending

3. Make whole

4. Move earth

I'd guess maybe 25% to 35% of Korvosa has non-NPC class levels, with most of them being 1st level fighters and rogues and wizards and clerics.

I've heard a lot about The Invisibles. It does sound interesting... but lack of interest isn't why I don't read comics. It's lack of time—I tend to spend my free time that I would otherwise spend reading comics instead playing videogames, watching movies, writing, and reading books.

I thought about posting this here but decided against casting Raise Thread - plus you check here more often anyway, for which many of us are, I'm sure, thankful :)

Having a Nagaji boon in hand for PFS, I was thinking of doing a Cleric of Apsu, when I noticed the following in the ISWG regarding the Scalykind domain spells:

Quote:

5th—animal growth*

*Only reptiles.

Now, as the Scalykind domain has an animal companion, that makes perfect sense... but the Dragon subdomain replaces the animal companion but leaves the domain spell there (making it kind of useless, mechanically). Was that an accidental oversight, or is that part of the price for taking the Dragon subdomain?

Thanks very much, and happy birthday!

We currently have no plans to reprint them. In fact, the logistics of reprinting a 32 page product more or less ensures that they'll probably never be reprinted in that format.

On the map for the River Kingdoms in the ISWG, is Riverton in the correct place? If yes, why isn't it considered part of Galt?

Under the Galt entry of the ISWG, it states nobles in the River Kingdoms lead raids into Galt. Where is Lord Tarne based out of? What about the "Revenant Princess"?

What does the Floating Temple of Hanspur look like? Or constructed from?

How does the religious intolerance of Touvette differ from Rahadoum?

You can cast animal growth on companions' animal companions still, or on summoned animals. It does lessen the use for it to a certain extent, so yes, that is indeed part of the price for taking the Dragon subdomain.

Riverton is not in Galt; it's in the River Kingdoms. The entirety of Kallas Lake and all of its shores are the southernmost point of the River Kingdoms.

Regions along the Galt/River Kingdom border.

Details on that temple are currently unrevealed (as in, undesigned) as far as I know.

I read that. The churches were evicted and their leadership forced to leave, does that mean no religion is tolerated or no permanent religious presence is allowed? Would a cleric, paladin, or etc be allowed entry into the country? I assume any religious buildings wouldn't be allowed since the previous ones were turned into the charities. Would places of worship have to be secretive? Like altars, shrines, etc.

What we've written about Touvette so far is what was in that book. At this point, I've not done much more thinking about it... but if we DO decide to make it a place where religion is pretty much totally outlawed, that casts the region automatically as a "bad guy" region regardless of its alignment, since that antagonizes a LOT of character classes.
