No more of others losing you danged books... so much for "Smilla's Sense of Snow" and "The Glass Castle." :( Not that they were great; it's the principle of the thing.

Ha! Just started and finished a book today. But there are some books that may take longer as they may be a bit more cerebral to digest or I need it for reference and intend to come back to it for months at a time.
What I like about electronic books is when I need to reference something quickly or something brief. As for a huge tome .... I don't think the comfort of reading would just be the same. Like the rest of you, I love the feel of a book in my hands, turning the pages, its scent, etc.

History might be an okay field. As long as he gets with a good private institution. Or never ever is fooled into believing in academia. Never.
I was disillusioned early, which is why I headed for private sector. But academia might be OK for the right person. Not for me. "Mister" is not a term of disrespect, whether you have a PhD or not.

:( Not sure what would be your regional equivalent for used book store chains, but as Mairk would likely agree, they're da bomb!

Urizen |

The closest HPB is four hours away, in KC. Boo.
That sucks. Is there a local equivalent for used book stores?
EDIT: Keep in mind that not all HPB stores are the same. As I'm sure it is for Mairk down in Dallas, there are some that caters more to books that interest you based on those frequenting the area to turn in their books versus other stores that are just 'meh'.

The ebooks also display only one page at a time and the pages turn slowly. I might end up very frustrated. Should have tried some serious reading on the demo model.
Sounds like it would be hell for those "Choose Your Own Adventure" novels. Remember those, anyone?
<flips to page 96> Oooh, no, the story will end here! Let me go to the other page instead. <flip, flip, flip>

I liked "Smilla's Sense of Snow".

Major Issues |

I'll be spending ridiculous amounts of money on an iPad, most likely. That's what I plan to use as my e-reader.
DON'T!! The iPad is a tool of those commie pinko's! It has a hidden function that scans yer mind and relays all that info to their hidden spy sattilite in deep space. Don'tchew know anythin'!?

Well, I see yet another troll thread has been started. I really wish the Paizo folks would create a separate section for that crap.
Heh. That's be awesome, if a thread tagged as being troll-bait was moved to a separate forum and wouldn't pop up in the active threads list. That'd help kill them off (or at least peel off the blowhards who want to participate).

doesn't matter. I don't got nothing to hide. The iPad being as affordable as it is, I'm looking to get one so that I can have a portable computer.

She's packing her bag right now. I have to go pick her mom up from the airport here soon, so I'm just getting some last minute Paizo and FB posting in :)

I'm hoping that it does read my mind. I'll probably cause the spy satellite to self destruct. ;)

Good thing. Rec'd a Escrow Surplus Check today. Largish. OK, I know it's my money but it was totally unexpected.
And the house pymt is dropping $50 per month.
*nekkid dancing commences!*
Don't blow it in one place! Usually they have to do that because they've collected more in escrow than the 7-8% allowance and therefore refund it after the tax year is over. But that's also a sign that your escrow is going to change the following month based on the new tax season. Sometimes, I end up just sending it back to them depending on the increase. But how I handle it these days is that I pay my real estate tax outside of an escrow than to let the bank earn the interest holding my money.

Sad that it's the result of falling house value, and subsequent taxes, but I'll take it. House will be paid off in 8 years.

Well, with the recent issues we'll need the cash. But it would have been nice to drop on one of our credit cards. At least the bumps will be smoother this next month. :)

As soon as I think I get a break, another expense comes up. Aside from living off of unemployment, I'm taking the bulldog to a orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday for a consultation and that's a $125. Surgery is reputed to cost $1800-$2k. Hopefully the insurance we picked up the other month will take a bite of 80% of the expenses.
