Why do some people insist on calling Pathfinder things like 3.P, 3.75, THE REAL D&D or anything other than Pathfinder? Is Pathfinder that much of a mouthful? I mean I'm blonde and I can say it, come on people.
As an organizer of events, I can tell you for a fact, that if you call it "3.75" that it allows hardcore 3.5 players and DMs to loosen up. There are a lot of people who stubbornly don't want to leave 3.5 because they hated 4th edition so much, and I can't blame them. I'm not going to bad-mouth fourth edition, but I gave it the old college try and it isn't for me. It adds credibility to the system (pathfinder) that paizo published Dragon and Dungeon magazines.
Recently we changed our meetup name from the North Houston Dungeons & Dragons Experience to the North Houston Dungeons & Dragons / Pathfinder Experience because we finally had enough members convert to pathfinder.
The one small wording that got them to give pathfinder games a shot? Calling it 3.75 and informing them it's 3.5 backward compatible. They read the rulebook and realize that it was rooted in 3.5, but it is a far better and more balanced system.
So that's just my take. I'm well aware that it's a different system, and I refer to it as pathfinder often. I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with the proble, of lumping it wth 3.5, but I wanted to provide a seperate perspective.
