I'll most likely be DMing, neck-deep in a RotRL campaign we're on the verge of starting. One of my players is also running a homebrew campaign I play in, but that moves along somewhat sporadically; if we keep up our current pace we'll probably be slightly past the middle of that. In the likely event we do convert, I suppose I'll be playing my Half-Orc Paladin - which is nice, as I want to play with the new toys but I'm not sure I'd want to do Paladin from the ground up again. (The fact I have never seen a 5 or above on his HD rolls doesn't help that. The monk takes damage better than him once the casters drop mage armor on the flighty bugger, though that's partly my fault for going two-hander instead of sword/board.)
When (and possibly if) I start from scratch, I'd probably pick up ranger for the bow-shootie type or go with fighter so I can afford the gobs and gobs of cool new feats.
I also just looked at my avatar in the preview and had a bizarre urge to play a bard. These decisions are never easy, are they.

The Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign I'm DMing will most likely switch to the final rules.
My first PC to be converted will most likely be my khopesh-weilding Osiriani fighter in a friend's Legacy of Fire campaign.
My first PC created under the final rules will most likely be a gnome rogue for another friend's "Boats In Space" campaign.
Total uses of "most likely" in this post: 4

Just as simple as the thread title: What is the first class you think you'd like to play when the final product comes out this august? Do you think you'll be the DM?
I'll probably be the DM for my group when it first comes out, but I think the first class that I'd like to play is Sorcerer.
Barbarian, because if it isn't significantly easier to play then I'm not buying the game.
(accomplishing this seemingly contradictory task by play-testing at the flgs)

Im not sure if that was suppossed to be sarcastic or serious. . .?
Most likely I'll be DMing first, than either going Cleric or Paladin.
Likely party is a Barbarian, a Fighter/Rogue/Barbarian (with nothing but power attack, track, and a great sword and I'm only partially kidding), a Druid or Sorcerer, a Monk or a Druid, and maybe something else x2.

Bard.
Better inspiration progression, new bardic music abilities and better archery feat options make for a playable character.
I've always enjoyed the Buff/Debuff role in games and I am glad to see the Bard coming up in power enough to be playable. I am also looking forward to the RP opportunities afforded by the versatility of the class.
After Bard probably a Rogue built to take advantage of some of the new feats like Greater Feint (if it makes it in) or Stunning Defense.
After those... I guess a Sorc to try out the new bloodline abilities.

Matt Rathbun |
So is your bard's bow going to double as a harp?
I sing, I dance, I shoot things... you don't need an instrument to trigger bardic music effects and since the dc for resisting effects is no longer based on your perform check there really isn't a reason to use one.
However, bardic music, plus spells like haste, plus Manyshot = a damn fine archer. The Bard will be built to max Dex and only have the Cha necessary to cast his spells. Also, most spells selected will be of the non-combat, utility variety so they don't interrupt my singing or dancing or shooting.

I was just asking. Never played a Bard with an instrument, myself either.
Ditto. My favorite 'Bard' was a fanatical Serpentfolk, who preached rousing bits of scripture from the holy texts of his goddess, inspiring his flock to ever greater exertions. Less 'musical fop,' more 'evangelical nutjob.' Instead of a harp, he held a prayerbook aloft as he spurred his followers to smite the unrighteous.

Seriously.
I dont see why that would have been a sarcastic statement I made (unless I am mistaken as to which comment you are refering to)I got into PF:Beta because I thought the design goal of PF was to make the D&D3.5 ruleset smoother while still remaining compatible to the latter. I havn't seen anything in PF that makes gameplay that much smoother that I should want to get it or play it.
Thus, if the first character class in the book (or any other really) isnt easier to play then it was with 3.5 then I shall have to stick with 3.5.
Why else make the switch? (i.e. The PF hardback is darned expensive and I already have a PHB)

We'll be converting our RotRL campaign from the beta to the final, most likely, so I'll be doing the first PF paladin for our game. By the horns, the evils that dare to touch Sandpoint will feel the might of Erastil!
The best bard I have seen so far was MUTE he Mimed and Wrote Verse (usually Hiaku)of course this did prevent him from casting some spells but... Oh well (he would occasionally use a flute when those spells were necessary)
BTW to answer the original question I always start new games with martial artists I am currently in the Society as a Female Halfling Monk (level 7 just finished Mod 19) So I will be converting her to the new system (we are taking a month off to play ... a different game whose name will not be mentioned here but it was originally a FASA product in the 80's) this will give the Society time to make more Mods so we can then really enjoy the "new" converted characters.
After that I will probably try out a Cleric or a Bard myself

I am DMing for my group at the moment and we just finished out the Armageddon Echo last night. I am currently running that campaign under the Beta rules and do not intend to change mid run. Therefore the first game we'll be running under the final rules will most likely be Legacy of Fire. For that game, a very old and dear friend will be taking over the hot seat, leaving me to be a player in my Sunday game for what will then likely be the first time in 18 months.
At the moment, I'm really leaning towards playing a bard educated in a university from somewhere on the Northern continent. He'll be well stocked in all knowledge skills, perform oratory, and profession scribe who has travelled to Katapesh to study the culture and ancient ruins for research for the several books he is currently writing for his focus of study on the Southern Continent. In the end, I'm shooting for the Pathfinder Chronicler PrC. If I hook him up with a leather brimmed hat, a whip, and a bowie knifish short sword, I am sure that he will bear no resemblance to a certain character cooked up by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas....

I'll probably play some kind of fighter, usually a bow monkey. I want to see if I can recreate my last one. I basically was shooting a .50 cal as a longbow. If not then a rogue or barbarian. If i get adventerous, I'll try and build the Favored Soul class from Complete Divine into PF and play that.
I'll also be a DM of one at some point. It'll be run in Golarion to boot.

Just people joke you play a barbarian or a fighter for simple.

My paladin, Vors, would probably prefer that. Our party bard does burlesque. His favored form is the limerick...or penis jokes.
I just joined PFS, so my sorcerer is only level 1. He's a parallel version of a character I had for an old homebrew campaign that's been mothballed for the time being. The old one was a fire genasi, so it seems appropriate that the Golarion version of Hakim should have the elemental (fire) bloodline.

Hopefully the pbp that I'm playing in will still be going and I'll convert my cleric over. We're already using the beta, so hopefully there will not be too much to convert.
I my other group I play in I have another character I'd like to convert to see how it turns out using the Pathfinder rules. Currently he is a Wizard 10/Elemental Savant 6. I haven't looked at the Elemental Savant to see what may need to be changed as far as requirements and such, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

Dark Psion |

I'll do what I always do when I get a new ruleset for D&D, recreate my three all-time favorite PCs.
The first was from AD&D, a Dual-class Human Thief/ Illusionist. I always played him as a Swashbuckler/ Master of Disguise, but 3rd edition allowed him to be mutli-classed, so his Rouge abilities made him an even better swashbuckler. Pathfinder Beta made him a much better Illusionist, so I am definately looking forward to how he will come out with the new ruleset.
The second was a Half-elf Thief/ Fighter, more a sneak fighter/ sniper than a thief. I always had to muti-class her to make her an efficient fighter, but with the Beta Rouge abilities I was able to make her a Rogue all the way, and a much better sniper.
The last was a Half-elf Thief/ Magic User, but reborn as a Rogue/ Sorcerer in 3rd edition, which fit the background a lot better. I do look forward to giving him a Bloodline and seeing where that takes him.
Then I will see where inspiration takes me, with Pathfinder Beta I created a Paladin of Pharasma based off the image of the main character from Assassin's Creed.

Cleric, and I have to say, they were always the class I least wanted to play, but I really like what PF has done with them. The domains give you a lot of options and flexibility that just the good ol' cleric with a mace who heals.
It's been a very, very long time since I actually held a set of dice in my hand, but I've been involved in PbPs on these boards for something like a year and a half, and either way, I'd be interested in rolling up a cleric. The cool part is that I have a couple of different ideas, any one of which I'd be interested in doing.

and cleric 1/druid 2/UA Bloodline 1 (yeah, that one is odd and fun <G>).
Did you take the same domain under Druid as one of the cleric ones?
I'll be busy helping my groups convert over their characters... first new character for me.. huh... probably a cleric. Maybe a fighter though, I can't remember when (if ever) I've actually played one myself.

Nope, my domains for cleric are Travel and Luck (good li'l Desnan) and I opted for the animal companion rather than the nature tie (honey colored bear).
The bloodline came about to allow for her backstory of having rakshasa parentage :) Tiefling just wasn't working for my DM and I, we couldn't find an alternate tiefling build that did work, and then we found the bloodlines and made our own for the rakshasa.

Actually, I am kind of dreading converting. In the Rise of the Runelords campaign, I have already had characters convert from D&D 3.0 (yes, not 3.5) to Pathfinder Beta. I am reticent to have them convert again.
