Hi folks,
I haven't been posting on the Paizo Boards the last few months due to lots of real world stuff.
In early May, I'll be moving from the East Coast to the east side of Oregon. I'll be in Mountain Time, but that is pretty far West for me.
Because I have some active games that I GM for, I have been looking to trying a Virtual Tabletop.
I've never ran any Pathfinder Society games, because I've had two active Runelord games instead. But I've been daydreaming about it.
My question is: can you run a sanctioned Pathfinder Society game over a VTT.. and have it count as legal?

Currently there's no hard (in the org play rules 1.1) ruling on this either way,
As long as you can get the chronicles out, don't mind the online delay, and have a good group worth the hassle I don't see why you couldn't.
I hear Mr. Frost has been looking to make this easier for those of us that want to game online.

So long as the rules are being followed, I have nothing to add to this discussion. I am, as has been said, looking into an online version that would be the Society's official online version if we were to go with it. However, that discussion is currently out of my hands and I have no time line for completion.

Good enough...

which virtual tabletop are you using?
Much like Paizo- :D
I've not decided. I'm just getting to VTT's and learning the technology. Running PFS games would be one of the goals of that self-tutelage.
I was just curious concerning any policy in place, of which there is none (except to follow the rules).

I recommend Pygon's TTop RPG. Stop by the chat and I bet he'd take a few minutes to walk you through its features and such.

I am using Maptools and Skype. I print out the Chronicle sheet, fill it out and mail it to the player.
Are you filling out all their wealth info as well or using the honor system in the hopes that they won't mess up the math after you've already signed it? I assume you're playing online with people you trust, but it's probably the biggest hindrance to "legal" PFS online play. There's also the issue of not being able to check older chronicles to ensure that anyone you're playing with has actually gained access to anything they're using. Again, honor system comes into play. Now that we have an unofficial green-light on this from Josh (above) I am thinking of running some games for friends from the chat room. I hope it goes well!

I would love to play Pathfinder online. If anyone is getting a game together let me know brianturner9@hotmail.com. Just let me know how many hours you are ahead or behind ohio.
See here.

I fill out everything. I am only playing online with good friends, and I am the only GM, so it's not a big deal.

Virtual Tabletops... I've been considering going that route considering my schedule and the lack of interest in my region. What do people here prefer? Fantasy Grounds? This TToP I only just learned about? Or Maptools?

I'd love to enter an online PS game, I have everything ready except... well... people. Due to the fact that I've just moved to the middle of nowhere RPG-players-wise. I have to travel 4 hours to see my girlfriend and roleplay (all in a single move!) every weekend available for me.
Sooo, if anyone finds a good way (like TTOP was recommended) to make a game like this work, I'll be reading this.

I don't think there's a general preference among players.
TTop and Maptools are free, but TTop only works on Windows machines (if that matters to you).

The real action of this thread moved over to the "Gamer Connection" board. They worked it out and I think the first one is tonight (although the table is well booked up). Just keep an eye over there for the PFS Online threads.

Since there appears to be more interest in this than just the table I'm running tonight, I have created a google group for organizing of online PFS games by interested parties. Please join the Pathfinder Society Online Collective. Membership is open to anyone, even if the game I'm running might be full. Hopefully others offer games through it as well.

I just started running Rise of the Rune Lords over Fantasy Grounds. So far its going great. I would love to be able to do Pathfinder Society over a VT. Looking forward to hearing more about this.
I just started my group on Hollow's Last Hope over Fantasy Grounds II. I did a full conversion of the module to FGII. Next up, I'm about 1/2 way through a full conversion of AP19: Howl of the Carrion King.
And since I've already been asked, no, I won't send anyone a copy of the FGII module without express, written, consent of Paizo.
That said, who would I talk to at Paizo about them (Paizo) offering a free download of the FGII module from the Paizo site of Hollow's Last Hope (as that one is a freebie download itself).

So, the result of Paizocon is that:
A) I have made a PFS character, and instantly fell in love with her, and Pathfinder Society, after the Grand Convocation
B) I have met people at Paizocon that I want to stay in touch with and game with!
Therefore, I will be jumping on the bandwagon of virtual tabletop PFS gaming. I will be using Fantasy Grounds II, and probably switching off DMing with Jarina, Elora, and NiT. I will be keeping a record of the entire sessions, and probably scanning and emailing all the paperwork. I'm putting this all out there to make sure that this will be legal for Pathfinder Society, and that we can really gain levels! *nudges Josh*
Also, if anyone has any suggestions, advice, questions, etc, please let me know! Lastly, we might have room for another person or two, so if you're interested, reply quick :-P We're trying to squeeze in as much as possible before gen con!

Glad to hear it Nani! Check out the google group I linked to above. There are a lot of people on there who are eager to play more games. I've run two scenarios so far and the hardest part has been organizing and arranging getting the official chronicles out to the players. We've got a system of tracking everything on the group though, and then sending out chronicles when requested via snail mail.

The second-hardest part is getting everyone to agree to show up at the same time with the same software. :-)
Nani, what time zone are you in, and what day/time do you plan on playing?

I too would like to get involved with Pathfinder's "virtual" Society games. I've done quite a bit of online gaming but have yet to find the need to purchase or use any software beyond adobe acrobat, MS Paint, and Teamspeak, although I am open to learning a new system if need be.
My schedule varies but tuesday and thursday nights usually work best for me. If anyone would like to get together at one of those times let me know.

I'm part of Nani's group that's planning on playing online. Nani and Kyle are near Atlanta (eastern) and there are three of us out here in Washington (PST). It sounds like we'll have a player from Virginia as well. At the moment we're talking about playing on Wednesdays starting at 5:15 PST, probably twice a month, using Fantasy Grounds II. But we haven't settled on the final details.

The biggest hurdle you'll encounter, other than the scheduling issues and program selection will be how to handle the chronicles. One the google group we've been sharing documents in which each player keeps a running total of their wealth, similar to chronciles, except on a single page, and then when they request, the GM sends a physical, signed chronicle out to them via snail mail filled out based on the computations in the online document.
If your group comes up with a simpler, cheaper, or more convenient solution, I'd love to hear it.

Just correcting Nani here... "... switching off DMing with Alizor, Elora, and NiT." For some reason people have been saying Jarina... when that's my PFS character's name.
Anyways, we're looking forward to putting Pathfinder out into the digital realm... as our Atlanta prospects look dismal :(

Is there still room for me? I too have just started my adventuring career. While the others I was working with were bigger and stronger, I was able to contribute to the battle. Very few guards are able to stand when you swing your backpack at their knees. ;-) Rover and I would be honored to join your search for the path.

Hey! It would actually be best if we could chat about it and the program we use for our virtual tabletop. Feel free to shoot me an email at naniobringer at gmail dot com!

I think it would be great for Paizo to make Fantasy Grounds modules available for free to those who purchase the scenario PDF. I know there are generous GMs out there who would do the conversion. (I might even be one of them!) This would safeguard the intellectual property while saving PFS online GMs a lot of extra work. I think it would boost sales, since we could then run PFS scenarios more often.
I know it will have to wait until after GenCon, but I wanted to give this idea a bump.
Thanks!
