MM for Pathfinder - Pet Peeve

OK, this has always been a pet peeve of mine.

In the MM a dog has a higher dexterity than a cat! This makes ZERO flipping sense!

These two scores need to be switched, or at the least the cat's dex raised above the dogs.

Pathfinder, please fix this!

LOL. Sounds reasonable to me.

Yeah, with the scores in the MM, I always wonder why they didn't change the name of the spell to Dog's Grace. LOL

Thank You

On a side note; I think I just made the pathfinder cat vs. commoner a bit more interesting, LOL.

This has always bugged me and my gaming group as well. I hope this will be fixed in the finished Pathfinder system.

C'mon! You ever see those idiots fall off a TV or countertop when they're trying to preen?

While they tend to be lazy and or half asleep, which causes problems and accidents, their capabilities in this area are legendary. Thus things like the spell "Cat's Grace" and "Always Lands on their feet."

I am sure you have all seen cats making triple back flips catching a toy in mid air, and landing on their feet. Maybe a small dog could do this, but the stats for a current dog are not meant for these breads.

I've seen a Rottweiler snatch a medicine ball out of the air in mid flight, do a double back flip, and land on all four paws - and when he did, he already chewed through the ball.

Honest!

1. It wasn't a triple backflip.

2. That was probably an incredible feet for the breed.
3. I could show you online video of mine, how about yours?

Having lived all my 35 years around many, many dogs and cats I personally think they would have about the same Dex score, gamewise. Cats are more acrobatic while dogs are more agile in a general sense. Just think of it as each animal would have different ranks in different skills.

See, I can agree with this. Our dog may not be able to land on his feet, but he can change direction mid jump by whipping his backside around, and I'm pretty sure I couldn't do that.

Having grown up with both cats and dogs for most of my life I can say without a shadow of a doubt that cats are the most dexterous of the two, although for dogs it does tend to depend on the breed in question. In game terms however, I will say that both animals should have a high score in dexterity, only that cats should by default be slightly more dexterous.

This was one of the reasons why the Savage Species Anthro template was so messed up - cats got lower dex mods than dogs, even though they were smaller and, well, cats. I'm all for fixing this.

Also, kudos on the punage in the title.

So the Cult of the Cathuggers and the Temple of the Doglovers have finally brought their war to Golarion. I've seen it all before.

Our world will be torn asunder as thousands of 'Hang In There' posters start to adorn the walls of wizard towers everywhere and riding dogs suddenly find themselves wearing knitted sweaters into battle. Cat's Grace will be replaced by Doggie Dexterity in some parts of the land, while the heavens themselves shake as hound archons begin switching to Meow Mix.

Can anyone discover the secret behind these disturbances in time to save our home?

An adventure designed for four 1st-level characters.

Count me in. Are we using the Point buy or can I roll? I would like to play the Rogue, please. (I'll be from the Cat side of the world, however I will be that cat that likes to hang with the dog's slowly converting them into my mindless drones)

Well, on the whole, Cats suck...and Dogs are just far superior. 0nly makes sense that my bulldog could dance better than your furball....

Well, it sounds like a failed Pathfinder Society submission, so let's just go with those creation rules.

Incidentally, Osirion and Taldor agents will learn shocking new clues to the reasons behind the fall of their respective kingdoms. Dun Dun Duh!

A 3-chapter adventure path in the making.

In the player's guide, the all-gnome party discovers that their frat siblings have gone missing. The only clue they find is a mysterious collar in the odd shape of a paw print amidst the rubble of what appears otherwise to be a 'start of the season' party gone tragically wrong.

In Chapter 1 "Hairballs of Horror" our stumpy action heroes find that a sinister Cult of Clawthulhu is behind the almost-cover-up of the frat party massacre at Glassteel Lake. They four-legged feline cultists performed a dread ritual to stir the ire of the gnome-hating undead ranger from his unmarked grave at the bottom of the lake.

Once they deal with the masked machete-wielding bedroll-grappling lake revenant, our traumatized heroes follow the catnip trail from the site of the ritual to the local catnip dealer. The trail leads from the addicted dealer of catnip to a sacred Cult temple complex in an ancient, enormous bath house ruin known as Hwarf'yeh. Yet a final clue leads them to ...

Chapter 2 "Doggies of Doom" the clue found at Hwarf'yeh directs our stumpy action heroes to tangle with the doggy minions of Al'poh, an obscure canine gawd of kitty slaughter and hedonistic doggy pleasures. Our heroes' last stand against the wrath of Al'poh is in a tree fort in a pitched battle with the local cult leader, a druidic avenger wolfhound that summons a seemingly inexhaustible horde of slavering gnome-devouring fanged critters in all his gory glory.

In Chapter 3 "Felis Lupus Echidna" the very skies shake as the true horror of the agenda of the Cult of Clawthulhu is uncovered: merging all the canine and feline creatures of the Material Plane into new, subservient chimerae species. Will our heroes prevent the unspeakable horror as it spirals out of control, subverting hound archons, hellcats, dragonnes ... even a mighty gold dragon? Or will they become so much pet-kibble in the bowels of the Cult's hideout in dread New'weh?

1. He just wasn't in the mood.

2. Actually, the owner did beat him afterwards the poor performance, since the breed can generally pull off quadruple backflips while catching wrecking balls.
3. I would, but the dog ate the camera. The same dog. In the same jump. He kicked off some motes of dust and ate the whole camera to wash down the medicine ball.

Wait, I think I confused this with another ongoing flamewar between two species.

Writing what Doombunny?

to get off the subject a little, one of the things about 3.5 that bothered me was the buzzsaw like damage that barbs and fighters are capable of.
looking at the beta version it doesnt seem like thhis has changed.
will the new monsters be better able to cope with barbs doing 60+ damage each round?
thanks

Get off the subject *a little*? That's like "talking of new TVs, I just killed your mother"

You'll find plenty of threads about fighters being to powerful or not powerful enough (which is the prevalent opinion, by the way) in the right places.

This is insane... and disturbing. And in no way relevant to Pathfinder! You people go on 'bout dogs and cats, and not ONE word about how badly HAMSTERS been nerfed!

That's 'cause hamsters ... are SPFR's. I mean, they've not had game stats for any hamster other than the Giant Space Hamster.

That's because Boo is a giant space hamster. To be precise, he's a miniature giant space hamster. (And I'm being quite serious about this. It's in Minsc's backstory in the game)

You guys are bringing back memories! Hahaha!

Who can forget the great Minsc with his Int of 5?! I think his Wis was 7 or 8 as well. Talk about a memorable character!

So...when will the first Pawfinder adventure be coming out?

I'm sure Heathansson will be buying copies!

Only if Messr's Mona, Jacobs, Lisa Stevens and company are willing for certain strange persons to put keyboard to electronic paper and scribble. I would hate to infringe on their turf like that.

Marked territory and all ...

EDIT: On the other paw, I s'pose that might fall under the "blind submission, roll a d20 and pray" category ...

Since we are on this subject... in the Vermin section, the Giant Praying Mantis has an Init of -1. WTF!?! I used to raise mantids (I now raise Mantis Shrimp, the World's most badass crustacean, but I digress...), and they strike between 25 and 75 times faster than your eye can blink. Init -1???

They move slow, as in walking, and are clumsy flyers (Although they are the only animal in the World with only one ear...and it's a radar-jamming device to thwart hunting bats, I 'dung-you-not'), but their strike is amazingly fast.

Easy fix : award Improved Initiative as a bonus feat. If deathbugs can get TWO bonus feats for a CR 2 critter, I'm pretty certain one can fix it for your home campaign. :) No idea if this is going to be "officialized" of course...

Even more fun is to give them the vorpal attribute.

I give crocodiles a death-roll ability in water.

Xaaon of Xen'Drik wrote:

I would rule that as part of an improved grab attack sequence, as the croc seeks to - in game terms - asphyxiate/drown its dinner before stuffing them under an available log or rock to 'marinate'.
