Now that you think you didn't win....

RPG Superstar™ 2009 General Discussion

The Exchange

I feel pretty certain that my item won't be heading to round 2, but I already asked for the time off of work. What will you be doing between the 20th and 23rd?

I am planning to continue my other writing project as well as build a greenhouse onto our huge shop. I will also be playing with the kids and going to see a movie (or two) with the wife. Perhaps it will be that new supernatural horror flick, "The Unborn".

Cheers,
Zuxius

I'm just waiting for Clark to come busting in here, posting about not counting yourself out yet, and there's still hope, and tons of positive goodies. :)

He has to go to bed sometime.

No he doesn't. He's using the freaking avatar of Orcus. Outsiders breathe, but they do not need to eat or sleep!

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 6 aka exile

I'm not counting myself out, but neither did I alter my schedule in the anticipation that I might make the top 32, so I suspect I will be working per usual.

It will be business as usual for me. Luckily, I can get time off with no notice at my job, so if I make it I can just take those days off. I have a feeling it won't come to that. :-)

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32 aka Smeazel

Business as usual here too. I can't really take time off work in anticipation that I might be moving on to the second round. Actually, even if I knew for sure I was moving on the second round, I don't know that I could really justify taking time off work for it. In the unlikely circumstance that my item does get picked for the top 32, I'll have to find time to work on my villain after work and during breaks. (That and try to have as much as possible done beforehand, and hope that the rules for round 2, when they're revealed, aren't different enough from what I anticipate to render my preparation completely irrelevant.)

When I saw the title of the thread, I did say to myself "oh man I gotta get in there and tell them not to count themselves out and that just submitting makes you a winner."

But I see you kind of handled that for me in your own way. :)

I know I can be a broken record on this topic and it may seem like I just spout goofy motivational fluff, but I absolutely believe it. This contest is teriffic. Don't take the stuff we say in other threads negatively (unless you are the person who gave us the dictionary definition of a word you used in your entry and didnt even submit a wondrous item, that person has no hope).

I have a funny feeling there will be some surprises.

Ah, come now, Clark. Don't hide from your role as the "Paula Abdul" of RPG Superstar. You're very good at it! And not nearly as batty...well, mostly. I mean you do have those tremendous Orcus-sized bat wings and everything. ;-D

In all seriousness though, I'm like a moth drawn to a flame everytime you post something about what you guys are seeing as you review the items. I got nixed last year by one of the "bad item stereotypes" (and yeah, I know they weren't so much "bad" everytime as just overused or not quite Superstar material).

I fear I'm going to fall into another stereotype this year, as I've gone over my entry again and I can see it in a different light now based on some of the stereotypes you've cited so far. The new ones, I mean. Clearly, I steered clear of the "bad" ones from last year. So, at least I'm learning. But it seems to be incrementally with each annual contest. :-D

Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing who (and what) makes the Top 32. Thanks for the time you guys spend on the judging.

My two-cents,

So when I defined the word "dragon" in my entry I got myself disqualified? Oh, well. There's always next year. I WILL FIND A WORD YOU DON'T KNOW!!!

Dragon: (Zoöl.) A variety of carrier pigeon.

They might not know that one...

I guess I ain't dead yet till the final 32 are posted.

Sure I made some mistakes, but at least I didn't put definitions in my submission and submit a non-wondrous item :D

Your lucky, I am not getting any time off. I am going to be burning the midnight oil for sure if I make it. Lucky bastard.

haha I didn't mean that to be negative in anyway. I think it's awesome how hands on and positive you are on these forums, and would have been really disappointed if you wouldn't have come "busting in here".

20th for 3 days? Yeah, booked off - just in case :D

If I make top 32 -

Day 1 - Feverously typing up all my scribbles and notes on my bad dude concept, checking the submission guideline, the formatting and so on.

Day 2 - Revisions day - followed by copious amounts of reviewing and re-reviewing the submission guidelines, going through bad stereotypes checklists, spelling and grammar checkers (US English and UK English variants), doing global clark peterson post searches on the forums, and wolfgang ones and reviewing all the previous entries for 2008.

Then it shall be posted.

Day 3 - Church and pray and pray and pray

Well actually more like load up World of Warcraft, go to the PVP arena and kill as many children logged on after school before bedtime as possible.

If I don't make it...

Well, those Warcraft kiddy winkies will have 3 very, very bad days :D

Huh. I work two part-time jobs, and my schedule is pretty random. Somehow though, I'm off from the 20th til the 22nd without requesting it. I hope that's some kind of sign or good karma.

See, if I go on (which I'm not counting myself out but I am not ready for), I'm planning on just not sleeping. My job at work gives no time to think of the intricacies of a villain (unless I base the villain on my job... hmmm), so if I go on, after I wake up from feinting, I'm going to be burning the candle at both ends.

Also, please don't take me out for the above. It'd be amazing to go on to the next round.

Clark what about a submission that was only 100 words?

I'm pretty sure we have a top 32 item that is around 110 words and one that is around 130 words.

It doesnt take 200 words to make a Superstar item.

Mine was around that level and i was concerned I was shooting myself in the foot by not going into more detail but thought it just doesn't require it. Not that I am hopeful at all of getting in I just had an Idea I wanted to try out.
