Feint errata

Combat & Magic

Feint, p 63, depend of Deception, wich not exist anymore. I think it's an error ?

Yeah, guess it should be Bluff again. And the DC should be changed as well, since your target won't be using Deception either.

Little confused why did they change feint? (sorry might have a answer elsewhere)

About Feint: Anybody else always felt that feinting should have something to do with your or the target's BAB?

Dark Archive

Given the small reference in the Bluff skill description (page 40) I think is the well-known Bluff under a different name.

Absolutely, Draco. More so than deceptive ability, feint is based on combat ability and experience. Feinting a level 15 fighter should be harder for a level 10 fighter and easier for a level 20 fighter.

bump.

The typo of Feint using Deception instead of Bluff was caught in the general Alpha 2 "Errata" thread.

As for using your opponent's BAB, I'm sure that some playtesting input would be appreciated as Paizo is requesting such for all their Alpha mechanics.

SO? Did anybody playtested using Feint as a Combat Maneuver like all the others right now?

Just curious...

Wait ... doesn't it now?

"The DC of this check is equal to 10 + your opponent’s base attack bonus + your opponent’s Wisdom modifier. If your opponent is trained in Deception, the DC is instead equal to 10 + your opponent’s Deception bonus, if higher." (p.63)

It is only against Deception if their Deception skill is higher than their BAB + Wis. Besides, I think it says Deception from back when Sense Motive was part of Deception. It should probably read If your opponent is trained in Sense Motive, the DC is instead equal to 10 + your opponent’s Sense Motive bonus, if higher.

That seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Damn, you're right. What I meant was the "feinter" uses BAB not deception. Or maybe if it works for defense, why not for offense too:

Either BAB+(DEX/CHA)? or Bluff-Modifier for feinting against BAB or Sense Motiv (I am more for Bluff instead of Sense Motiv here).

I'm okay with it as written because of this ...

"If successful, the next melee attack you make against the target does not allow him to use his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any)."

So Feint, in and of itself, is not an attack; it's a bluff. But if you manage to pull it off, you're next attack is really good. That's where your BAB comes in.

But feinting remains a way of decent swordsplay. As I said making you use either your BAB+Ability or Bluff skill would a be very good way from my POV.

Are you even reading the other posts? I'm just wondering...

BAB + Wis modifier or Sense Motive check ( = ranks Sense Motive + Wis modifier, and maybe +3), whichever is higher.
