Patherfinder Magazine (Dragon and Dungeon rebirth?)

Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

Hey I was just wondering, with the Dragon and Dungeon magazines gone, and that they are coming out with their own version of DnD, that maybe Paizo will be releasing their own Pathfinder Magazine? I don't know Paizo productions too much so if their already is please forgive my Noob-ness.

So anyone heard any word on this?

Paizo has stated that they'd pretty much rather stay out of the magazine business for various reasons. However, Pathfinder Companion looks as if it is going to offer alot of similar content for Pathfinder that used to be in the pages of Dragon. Check it out in August.

They have the monthly AP to put out. They have a Companion or Module to put out. They have an almost monthly Chronicles product to put out, AND they have to develop a game system. Even if they wanted to do a magazine, I don't see how they'd have time. :)

And even if they had the time and inclination as a Pathfinder Subscriber, a Chronicles Subscriber and a future Companion Subscriber I just don't have the money. ;)

It will not happen. The magazine business is not a healthy industry, and with each passing year it seems to become less healthy. Many print magazines are folding across all genres and subscription levels, and even some of the really big mags are ceasing publication.

It's true, magazines are a tough business. Very tough. Fortunately, I love them and enjoy the challenge, which is why Kobold Quarterly will continue to support D&D and Pathfinder as much as possible.

Heck, I would love to some official Pathfinder RPG content. If you do want to support a D&D-centric magazine, please check it out Kobold Quarterly. At just $16 for 4 issues in PDF, it's kind of a bargain. Print+PDF subs are also available.

I would be happy to write something for your magazine, Wolf. As would many Paizo folks, I should think.

Just to as a related aside-

I'm a patron of Open Design's latest project Blood of the Gorgon, written by Nick Logue (before he start working with the Paizo Golem).

The Open Design Projects by default take place in Wolfgang's "location ambiguous" setting, the Free City of Zobeck. That is, Zobeck is designed to be translocated to other world settings.

One of the patron polls that we participated in was, 'what other setting would you like to see the adventure take place in besides Zobeck?'

The winner of the Poll was the Pathfinder setting, and Nick has offered to provide insights and notes on how to to run 'Blood of the Gorgon' in a Pathfinder location (most likely Korvosa).

That's pretty exciting, because Blood of the Gorgon is a dark thriller chiller mystery tailored for an large urban environment.

Now.. none of this is exactly about magazines, however, I submit this as an example of third party support for the Pathfinder setting.

I believe Blood of the Gorgon will be available (at a slightly higher cost than it is to the early adopters) after the project is completed.

Furthermore....

If Erik and Wolfgang want, in my humble opinion, a good idea for a Kobold Quarterly article, here is my suggestion:

I'd like to see an article in Kobold Quarterly on inserting Zobeck the Free City in Pathfinder. Putting it in the best and most logical place according to the Pathfinder Editorial Department, along with notes about making it the best fit possible. Examples: how do Zobeck's unique pecularities like Clockwork magic, kobolds, and lack of nobility, mesh with where Pathfinder Editorial Team choose place it (i.e. what do the neighbors think of this strange city and their Gear Goddess?)

The timing is right for this article, because Wolfgang is working on a Zobeck setting book, and the Pathfinder Gazeteer is coming out in weeks. Both Editorial Teams have a better idea about their world vision than they've had previously.

The perfect place for this article is in Kobold Quarterly (not in a formal Pathfinder product), because the Zobeck setting is supported in each issue of Kobold Quarterly. Zobeck will never offically be part of the Pathfinder setting, but I think a lot of people love to see something in the vein of "well what if it was part of Golarion, hypothetically speaking, what would Paizo do with it?"

I'd buy that issue in a friggan heartbeat if I wasn't already a subscriber!

If you agree, please chime in and show your interest!

Between Paizo and OD/KQ, I am in DnD heaven. Creative, hard-working people with a unique vision of the future that is steeped in the roots of DnD - is there anything better??? There is no good reason why every DnD player worth his salt is not supporting both!

Oh yea, the actual topic of the post *grins*, generally speaking, I would love to see regular Pathfinder articles in KQ. Also, Watcher's idea is an excellent one.

Best.

As a Kobold Quarterly subscriber and a Pathfinder junkie, I would love to see some cross polination between the two. Please do this.
