This one sentence, I find really distrubing. Please Dont do this to me. I have to abandon the Realms because of the Spellplague.

-Please Paizo do not do this!!! Forgive me if this is the wrong forum for this. I am truly excited about The Pathfinder RPG. That anouncement is keeping me 3.5, or 3P(Paizo Edition on the WotC boards). But Polymorph Plague is a no-go at this station

Ummm What? Maybe he just means what nation do you think needs to be changed? Hopefully there will be nothing along the lines of the spell plauge.

The news is out! Paizo has announced the Pathfinder RPG, a stand-alone game based on the 3.5 SRD that'll be going through a year and a half of public playtesting, after which it'll debut at Gen Con 2009. Our goal for the Pathfinder RPG is to keep the spirit of the OGL movement alive and create a set of rules that evolve the 3.5 SRD. More importantly, the Pathfinder RPG is completely backwards compatible with the mountains of game books that everyone already owns. The game is being designed by our Lead Designer Jason Bulmahn with assistance from many members of the Paizo staff, and if you haven't seen the first release of the public Alpha yet, you should head over to paizo.com/pathfinderRPG and check it out! Let us know what you think, what's cool, what's broken, what should stay and what should go away. And spread the word! Let your friends know about the public playtest of the Pathfinder RPG to help us keep Pathfinder alive for years to come.

What does this mean for the other Pathfinder products?

For the immediate future, not much changes. We're already well into design, using the 3.5 rules, for the Second Darkness Adventure Path that debuts with Pathfinder #13 in August (Greg Vaughn's map turnover for Riddleport turned out particularly nice, by the way!). After that, in February of 2009, we'll be starting up the fourth Pathfinder Adventure Path (which, at the time I'm writing this, will quite likely be moving out of Varisia and into devil-haunted Cheliax, and just might involve a bit of good old-fashioned "tame the wilderness" stuff), which will also use the 3.5 rules. The Pathfinder Modules, Pathfinder Chronicles, and Pathfinder Companion lines will also continue to use 3.5 rules during this period.

Then, in August 2009, all of the Pathfinder products will switch from the 3.5 SRD to the Pathfinder RPG as we begin Adventure Path 5 in Pathfinder #25. If we've done our job right, you'll be able to play the Adventure Path using the current 3.5 rules or the new rules for the Pathfinder RPG—the transition should be pretty fast and simple as a result. It has to be, really, because I've already got lots of ideas bumping around in my head about what that Adventure Path is going to be about, and I don't want to spend too much time getting used to new rules when I could be spending that time on that campaign's plot. Will it focus on the destruction brought to Golarion by the advent of the genie wars? Will your PCs get hired by Ameiko to go on an expedition from Sandpoint over the north pole and down into Tian Xia? What nation would be the best one to hit with the Polymorph Plague? Will it be our first direct sequel to a prior Adventure Path—could we see the Return of the Runelords? Whatever it ends up being about, one thing's for sure: we'll still be presenting the same exciting Adventure Paths and support material for the Pathfinder Chronicles campaign setting you've come to expect from us.

We're also incredibly excited to announce that we're launching the Pathfinder Society organized play mega-campaign, and that we're hiring Nicolas Logue to run it. Nick has been a longtime contributor to Paizo, and his natural skills as an organizer and adventure-writer make him the ideal candidate to helm Paizo's first foray into the world of organized play. We think you'll be very excited about the Pathfinder Society Scenarios—check out what we have planned for the first four on the Pathfinder Society page! Additional details about the Pathfinder Society will be revealed in the coming months via the Pathfinder Society page and the Paizo Blog.

-BOLD ADDED. Please nothing with plague in it. I now have issues because of the spellplague.

I wouldn't read anything into it.

As I understand it the Polymorph Plague is a series of strange occurrences (perhaps a malady) that changes the forms of individual victims, not who countries, histories, or campaign settings.

I also don't think it's in the next three or four APs coming up, so I don't advise losing sleep over it.

Yeah, this is just one half-formed idea we're kicking around for potential Adventure Path plots. When a noble mysteriously transforms into an otyugh then other locals start turning into beasties hi-jinks and adventure ensues. Yup… that's about all we've got. There might be an idea there, but it's nothing fleshed out or anything we've thought too hard about. So really, no worries.

It’s the Infernal Syndrome you should be afriad of.

Heh that's kinda amusing. Will they turn into killer vegetables or something?

All the devils sound like Mark Hamil?

Has there been any hints as to what the themes will be for the 4th and 5th Pathfinder APs? The genie wars may be interesting. I remember reading something about an AP based in the Land of the Linnorm Kings. I was hoping to see that.

As for the Polymorph Plague, I wouldn't mind that either as long as it was not world altering event. I think I'm happy with Golarion as it is.

-Well Eric, I guess I have to take your word for it. Its the word plague that has me addle-coved. I am a long time Forgotten Realms fan. I totally hate what WotC is doing to The Realms. Not trying to bad mouth WotC, I just don't like what they are doing to FR. So...I subcribed to Pathfinder series to check out "Golarion". Just as long as the Gods dont have a Helm, Tymora, and Tyr episode of the Young and the Restless, or Mystra getting killed be Cyric or Shar. Or a "Golarion" equivalent we should be all right.

18 Delta as in SF medic?

(Sorry, this isn't meant to be a hijack.)

Don't lose any sleep over it. I guess they use it to base a nice story on it, not as an excuse to arbitrarily change the roster of core races. I think you don't need to fear that all Golarion gnomes turn into dragonborn and they use that as an excuse to introduce a "fun" race.

I doubt it will affect all of Golarion. It will be one nation, or maybe even a couple of cities, and then probably only a part of the population.

It will have an impact, but it will not change (transmute?) Golarion forever.

To reassure people, I'd suggest Paizo should not introduce the PP at the same time as they switch from 3.5 to PF. ;-)

Yes the dreaded killer tomato once again rears it's ugly head.

Wow I'm thinking I can play a chef with fighter levels. Iron Chef!

That sounds like an awesome AP idea, certainly one I'd love to play in. I always loved the Grieg's End dungeon in Everquest because it would randomly change your character model.

That reminds me, what do you call a Warforged with ranks in Profession: Vegan Chef?

A salad shooter.
