Have you preordered the 4e books?

4th Edition

Liberty's Edge

Please note: I am NOT looking for a discussion of 3.5 vs 4e with this thread.

I myself want to read the new books before deciding what I think about the new version.

So regardless of if you plan to switch to 4e, plan to stay with 3.5, or are still on the fence, I am just curious if you have gone ahead and preordered the PHB, DMG or MM.

I have gone ahead and pre-ordered all 3.

The Exchange

Pre-ordered the first module, as it sounds like it will have enough rules to play 4e. If it is good, I will get a phb. If it sucks, well, first impressions and all that.

I plan to look at the books when they come out and decide then, but I am thinking I will probably order the gift set on Amazon for $66. Will probably get them sooner or later so might as well save some money right out of the gate.

I'm waiting for Paizo to announce their 4e package. I'd rather buy from them than Amazon if at all possible.

Liberty's Edge

Oh yeah, I forgot about the first module, H1. I went ahead and pre-ordered that one too since it comes out first.

No, I have not.

No, I haven't.

The Exchange

I have not preordered any 4e material.

no.

Shadow Lodge

I plan on reviewing the 4e books in detail via online methods and in the stores before making any purchases.

I have not preordered any of the books yet, but I will for sure pick up the PHB when it comes out.

I really do want to have a good look at it (plus it needs to go up on my shelf with my other five (1st Ed., 2nd Ed., 2nd Ed. (black cover), 3rd Ed., and 3.5)).

No I haven't.

I'm not anti 4E. I'm just worried about having to buy 4.5E later on down the line. This is my sole reason for not preordering. I want to wait about 3-6 months after the June release so I can read all I can, on the boards and from borrowed books, before making an initial investment that will then lead to further expiditures of my limited funds(which always seems to happen when I really like a system).

Rest-assured we will have a 4E core package available on paizo.com. I don't know what that is, yet.

I am planning on ordering, but am waiting on the appearance of the GSL. If it seems overly punitive or restrictive with regards to the third party publishers, I'll have to do some more thinking.

I have gone ahead and pre-ordered all 3.

I have at my FLGS. If not there it would have been Paizo, but discount or no, I tend to get the non-paizo stuff there.

No.

Dark Archive

Nope.

Sovereign Court

I Preordered the core 3 gift set.

Sovereign Court

Yes, of course. I've owned every version of DnD ever produced, so in some ways I feel like I have some sort of "complete the set" going at this point.

Check out what I found and scanned in!

Nope, I wait for any errata to get picked up- mostly likely I'll get the PHB as a stocking stuffer for Xmas 2009.

Yes, the $66 offer that Amazon is offering is pretty good. If Paizo can beat that and get it to my house faster, I will go with them instead.

Nope... not gonna do it. This time around I'll wait a while to pick up the books (if I pick up the books at all).

Jon Brazer Enterprises

No.

Lone Shark Games

Yep.

Pre-ordered - I'm excited and can't wait to see the new rules. And I figure even if 4e turns out to be dog doo, I still need the core rules cause others (i.e. friends and potential friends) will play them.

My only hesitation to pre-ordering is that subsequent errata may or may not be free (not a big fan of that factor). But I'd be kidding myself to say I don't want to see it all ASAP.

Yes.

Pre-ordered 2 Boxed Sets and 5 PHBs. The second Boxed set is for my best friend and occasional DM. It's ... subtle ... encouragement. The PHBs are for the players. I told everyone to consider the books as this years' birthday presents. So, now I don't have to worry about buying anything AND they have the books when I do so we can play right away, not to mention the guilt factor will make them all remember to buy me a birthday present this year.

All for doing something I want to do anyway! Now, hopefully, none of them read this board.

Pre-ordered everything.

Man, anyone else having some problems with the boards today? I've been trying to let everyone know that I've preordered all four books (three core plus H1) and at least three of my players have bought all three core. Maybe even four, I'd have to ask him.

In fact, now that I think on it, I think everyone at my table has preordered all three core, except my wife. Who plans on using my copies. That freeloader! (Don't tell her I said that!)

Cheers! :)

There's been some strange activity, yeah. A few threads show the last posts as hours ago, yet when I look inside them there are several posts after the one listed on the main page. Reloading the screen, clearing my cache isn't helping. Also, I've received a couple errors when trying to post today. So, there's a disturbance, to be sure.

Ordered the three core books and H1. Ill probably run H1 for my group, then my wife is going to try dming 4e, see how it is for new dms (especially when the players wont know the rules any better).

Then we shall see paizo's direction and our like of the new system.

I plan to read through the books before making a decision if I will buy them. No sense giving WotC money if I'm not going to use the books - I did that too much with the 3e/3.5 books.

Yes ... through my FLGS.

I would like to add that if Paizo comes up with a package even close to the one on Amazon I will definitely cancel that order and change my order to go through Paizo. Odering 2 boxed sets and 5 PHBs means I have to be somewhat careful of the price, but if it's in the ballpark I'd like to give the business to Paizo.

This is a stupid question and I will admit to it, but when you pre-order with Amazon do they charge your credit card at that time or when they mail it?

Sadly my local game store is very anti-discount on everything. Shelling out a lot new books for an edition I am not sure I will like makes me want to save money. Plus, the first hit should be free ;-)

Sadly my local game store is very anti-discount on anything and when I shelling out over $100 for new books I would like some type of price cut

They charge nothing until they ship it.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Preordered the PHB, as another person in my group volunteered to DM. I'll wait for the rest of the books. I've never played a gnome, doubt I will ever play a gnome. Badger minion be damned.

No problem, amigo. :)

No. Won't buy them when they come out, either.

Dark Archive

Have no intention of buying until I hear the reviews. But not before 2009 or 2010. Have a lot of 3.5 material.

I'm getting them (and the preview adventure) from my Friendly Local Gaming Store, since that's where we hold our weekly game.

I asked the 5 guys in our group if they are willing to commit to buying the Player Handbook on the day it comes out, so the store owner can know what to pre-order for us. I was actually surprised by their answer - all 5 of them stated they intend to get the 3-core-book set on the day it comes out. I even reminded them they needn't do that, since everything they will need as players is supposed to be in the PHB. They all confirmed they're getting the set.

No to preorder... in fact, since I only plan to have these for the professional end of game design, and many companies won't be able to release products until Jan of next year, I'm taking this new policy from WotC as a gift of savings rather... I plan to buy my core books in the used/like new market.
What I plan on doing is flipping through the books when they arrive at the local bookstore and grab the overview basics of the changes. Then, by July to August I figure there will be at least a few good offers on the books in the used market at Amazon, half.com, ebay, or abebooks. This is not saying that 4th edition will totally flop and everyone will hate it... just merely that since it is such a different shift in the rules then it is likely that some folks will not care for it, put their relatively new books back up for sale, and I may be able then to get these at a discount. Honestly, I could probably wait until October for what its worth.

Other than subscribing, I've never pre-ordered anything. I like to keep the merchants on their toes.

:p

I may order them in 2009 or 2010, or whenever they are updated with errata.

Preordering is for the weak-willed. Wait in line in the cold and shank the old lady in front of you like everyone else.

Actually, I wrote a preorder module for an international website that sold luxury items, and it wasn't fun. Out of respect for any other programmers that ever had to do this I don't preorder.

The Exchange

A buddy that I have been gaming with since 1982 runs my FLGS and he always has my back so I have stuff on perpetual pre-order.

Lantern Lodge

No. I'm in no hurry to purchase. The core books will be available in stores for years, it's not like they're going out of print any time soon. Will wait and see what general feedback is like first.

same here

No I have not yet. I plan too, I'm just waiting for a bit.

That's so cool. Airplane models and D&D...sounds like my childhood!

No preorder for me. I'll buy them at my FLGS or at Paizo.
