I am looking forward to this adventure path... Really.. I mean rrrrreeeally...

Curse of the Crimson Throne

Unfortunately, my goal of doing RORL adventure path has not come to fruition. My PCs like the Eberron campaign I'm running.. Alas.
Although I like RORL.. The whole idea of a city based adventure is the fashizzle! So I'm thinking by the time Eberron is done, I may end up starting COCT instead... And then I have a homebrew campaign that starts off in Frostburn type settings.. Damn, you can see the problems with ADD DMs.

You still play AD&D?

(Ha ha! Get it? ADD... AD&D... ha ha! Ha. Ahem.)

What I mean to say is, we're glad you're looking forward to CotCT. I just finished editing the first adventure again. It's pretty cool.

Oooooo yess I get it!! : P

I don't envy your job, but at the same time, it's gotta be fun, particularly with reading anything that Mr. Logue throws into the mix.
That's alot of editing!!

Speaking of AD&D.. We played that in our teens, but it was crazy.. We'd go off on tangents and just make crap up, especially with armies.. And there were very little minis.. Back when Grenadier and Ral Partha were big into the mini market.. All we could do was just stand there and look at the mini display cases and drool..

Now I have several minis and its about realistic plot threads and role-playing, although right now I'm taking the PCs through Eye of the Lich Queen. One of the more outspoken players is a power gamer and he has a warforged duskblade that he loves playing... So unfortunately, no Pathfinder yet.. DAMMIT!!
So is Pathfinder 6 coming out next month and Pathfinder 7 hitting the mailboxes in March?

Ah yes, I remember those days... :)

Umm... I think so...? I think we want to get 7 out in February as well, so February might be the month where we double up with PFs. I'm not certain, though, so don't quote me on that. :)

Yeah, I was on the verge of canceling my Pathfinder Sub but then I read a bit more of CotCT and it sounds (and looks from the preview art) to be a lot of fun.

For the record, I'm not disappointed in Pathfinder in anyway. Quite the contrary I really really love it. But for some reason my group hasn't really bought into it. In fact I called it quits after the first half of Skinsaw when half my players were more interested in looking up crap on You Tube (we play in my buddy's office) and one of the two female players was more interested in her knitting (I kid you not) than the haunting of Foxglove Manner. The only three of the six players trying to keep on track were my wife, a new guy and guy who's house we were in. I called an early night and swore off DMing for a long, long time.

Now my friend is running STAP so I can get some play time. After that I might follow up with some Warhammer FRP, or run the Star Wars: Saga - Dawn of Defiance AP.

If you guys double up in Feb that'd help me decide and make my case to my wife in keeping up the PF Sub.

No pressure. :-)

I really want to say though that you guys are doing a fantastic job. I've been a reader of Dragon/Dungeon but I never subscribed - but the idea of Pathfinder made me want to jump on something that was new and sounded awesome. You haven't disappointed. And even if I never get to run RotRL to it's end, I look forward to Crimson Throne and Second Darkness sounds killer, though I'm not a huge fan of Drow. And I won't even be bothered if it goes 4th Edition since I'll be making the switch come June. (/endsuckup)

That's rough my man! Sorry to hear about that. I impose a LOT of discipline with my players, because I hate when people are playing video games and doing other things while we role play. I once had a guy bring his lap top to the table and, no joke, was playing games and surfing porn sites while I was running. Everyone else was having a blast, and then everytime we got to his turn, the game just stopped dead, and he'd go "What's happening again?"

I booted him. I like players who show up to play and really get into it. I feel your pain Arclight!

Here's hoping Curse of the Crimson Throne works out awesome for you!

The Exchange

And I bet he didn't show you any porn, either.

Yeah. That sucks, esp if he didn't share. My group usually isn't so bad. All during Burnt Offerings is was role-play, role-play, role-play and extremely focused. So imagine my excitement when we got into Skinsaw and it's murder mystery/haunted house. Yeah, not so much role-play and all "lets just get on with it and kill something" or "oh damn! I missed a stitch!" grrrrr When I later told them I'm not going to be DMing for a while they were all confused and said the last session was great. <sigh>

They have these moments though. I'll get a few great weeks of play followed by several weeks of ADD afflicted 2 year olds. (no offence to all the ADD afflicted 2 year olds out there) Over the 5 years we've played together as a group I've learned that when that session hits when it seems they want to do anything but play I let them come to me for the next session or someone else gets behind the screen.

My hope is that later on in Eyes of the Lich Queen, the PCs get their asses handed to them.. Legally.. But I doubt it, they're really starting to gel as a group.
I have tried to pimp RORL to them by giving them the Player's Guide to peruse and I've been highlighting the bonus regional feat in character creation, but they're not budging.
Fortunately, Alric, my group has never resorted to knitting.. But I think the optimal playing size is 4 players, anything greater than that and the chance for distractions is too great.. It's amazing what a 5th player can do to a group. I've seen it where it works out but most of the time (in my experience), a 5th player disrupts play.
One of my players keeps talking about running an Exalted campaign, but he's a new dad and they just moved to a new place, so I don't think that's ever going to happen.
Don't give up DMing man, keep the fire burning.

Porn eh? That is a first for me.. I've DMed some sucky players, but that guy tops my crappy players list. What was he a last minute fill in?

I would have to go on record as saying I have very high hopes for the new Arc. I’m excited about it, in the way I was about Age of Worms. That excitement just never took hold for Savage Tide or Runelords, but I have a good feeling about the coming six-pack.

Optimal playing size... I'm not sure you can calculate that so easily.

My DM ran a Champions super-hero campaign that lasted for eight years, and we usually had at least six players. Sometimes as many as ten.

More recently, our 3.5 campaign was two and a half years with six to eight players at a time. (Fifth level all the way into low epics, saved reality as we know it, prevented a full-scale war of the gods, and stopped an evil deity from resurrecting himself. Good times.) And two of those players were mothers of small children whom we had to play around. :)

While I really like ST I kind of agree about RotRL. It's not that it isn't a good AP, because it is, it's just that it doesn't feel great to me. I think it can in some way be contributed to everyone involved still trying to get used to the new format, as well as some of the volumes (especially PF#3) suffering from the double workload with the last issues of Dungeon.

Anyway, enough rambling. I too look forward to this AP, and I suspect that it will be the one I'm running when we're done with STAP.

Good call. I hope he just looked.

I actually suggest the same for Alric: Instead of swearing off playing, kick out those who don't want to play, anyway, and keep playing with those who take it seriously.

I am stopped playing D&D with the announcement of 4e. So I understand the concept of getting the PF adventures and not running them, but they are just like good books to me right now. Also if push comes to shove I will take them out of the D&D and use the story core in whatever system I want to run it in.

Like currently I am using Mutants and Masterminds to run a SCIFI game and modifying Savage Tides for it, only in the first adventure but it is meshing really well.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, this adventure path that's coming is RIGHT up my alley. I wouldn't mind putting my PCs through a streamlined version of it as part of a larger campaign. I am incredibly psyched to see this one, though.

I really want to run this campaign for my players, before ever even seeing it. The problem is, I think it might end up being too similar in some ways to my existing Styes campaign. They both open with a gypsy fortuneteller of some sort, all kinds of thieves and ne'er-do-wells running about and a city on the brink of disaster. Yours will likely be much better than mine (which is, admittedly, cobbled together from existing adventures) and I can't wait to read it.

After checking out the plague doctor masks, I have to ask: have you Paizo folks read the excellent comic book The Marquis by Guy Davis? There are some similar costume decisions, though it's a much different story. Great minds draw on the same references and all that.
