Eando Kline: What class(es)?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Scarab Sages

I have assumed Eando Kline to be a wizard/rogue. But then as I am reading Pathfinder 4 cover to cover, I notice he casts what I assume to be a cure light wounds spell by humming an aria he learned from the priests of Desna.

I would like the to assume the events of Eando's Pathfinder Journal mirror what is possible in my own Golarion, i.e. the writers don't just make up rules as they go along.

So we have a guy that can cast arcane spells (Pathfinder 2), can cast divine spells (Pathfinder 4), sneak attack (I assume he sneak attacked the half orc in Pathfinder 4), and fights with a longsword.

Okay, so he's a jack of all trades, but any guesses on what class(es) he actually has levels in? Fgt1/Rog1/Wiz1/Cle1?

I would like to think he is not a bard. "Filthy Bards," has become one of my favorite little quotes from Pathfinder so far.

Even with the "filthy bards" comment I'm guessing bard. Everything fits. That or something involving a pathfinder organization prestigue class that hasn't been released yet.

Bard, definitely. Best class in the game! (Or at least, my favourite ;) )

Yay, bards!

I was gonna say a ranger variant considering Redmare, but maybhe it was just his horse.

Are you saying you think his horse was a ranger?

Cure Light Wounds is an arcane spell, on the bard's list.

So, yeah, either bard or else, as you suggest, a collection of low-level dips in several different classes.

Looked at from another perspective, this character's going to be a great bard, simply because of all the knowledge and lore he's accumulating.

Dark Archive

I'd guess he's a multiclassed ranger/bard. This could explain why he was so sad, when his horse died in the swamps as it was more to him than "just a horse".
And he seems to be a good tracker too.

Yup, and Eando was the companion.

...

Dammit, now I have the urge to make an awakened heavy warhorse ranger with a humanoid "animal" companion...

Careful there, there might be trademark infringement or something like it going on here. Who'd ever have an intelligent animal as the one in charge?

Oh.

What if... Eando Kline WAS a rogue, AND a cleric, AND a wizard... without multiclassing? Basically, Eando Kline is the collective psuedonym of several individuals, who adopt the Eando Kline name as one passes away or retire. Kinda like Dread Pirate Roberts, or a non sucky Pein.

Oh.

I was thinking more along the lines of Rocky and Bullwinkle, myself: a la Dudley Do-Right and his horse that had the brains or Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Also, I've personally come upon many animals that were smarter than their human "owners."

As far as the Bard thing. It does fit, but I wonder about the lack of singing. Does Eando ever sing, or is he content with just the autobiography as his means of expression?

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if its not an as yet undisclosed Bard Variant. A non-musical bard with slightly more roguish tendencies.

That would be simply smashing. It's been one of the biggest gripes I've had about the class. A variant would be most interesting. I think it would be wonderful to substitute it with dancing, using the Harrow Deck, maybe as a jester/fool/clown, painting, sculpture, illusion-art that can be visual and/or auditory, or prose.

One thing to note: not all bards sing. The Perform skill allows for bards to use acting, comedy, dance, musical instruments, and oratory to effect their bardic "music" powers; singing is only one of the nine options. We have our own basic idea of what his class breakdown works out as, but I'm pretty sure he's got at least a few levels in bard (which DOES make that "filthy bards" comment fun!)... if not ALL levels in bard.

In any event, his chosen perform is Oratory, a skill that includes epics, odes, and storytelling.

Filthy bard... I KNEW IT...

Great storyteller none the less...

Cool, my bard in RotRL does that.

I thought it was kinda odd but I let her follow her own creative idea with it. Now I'll have to tell her Doc J is of the same mind.

so the 'traditional' bards are filthy? does that mean that he doens't have a good singing voice, and that is why he hums/uses story tells his way through things to cast stuff.would ripping the leeches off be considered intimidation, gather information or an action in a grapple

Eando certainly thinks so... especially if they steal his stuff.

And don't forget... Eando might be making all of this up anyway, from the comfort of his big overstuffed chair in his secret mountain arch-villain fortress.

Is he being fed grapes by the slaves of the runelord of sloth while he's at it? Or is he related to the runelord of pride?

Reminds me of a guy I knew who created a champions character that was nothing but a "Big Gun". Literally. The gun had a sidekick, and the sidekick's job was to carry the main character from fight to fight.

Like Megatron from Transformers? He can turn into a huge gun, but he has to have someone else use him. He's like, "Pick me up, I'm deadly!"

Scarab Sages

Since Eando Klein's name is a combination of Eando Binder (Captain Marvel and the original "pre-asimov" I, Robot) and Otis Adelbert Klein (Robert E. Howard's agent and Burrough's pastiche master), I am going to have to say that Klein is a very talented Bard.

Whatever he is, after Pathfinder 4 I think he pretty clearly has sneak attack. So I vote for at least 1 rogue level (or perhaps some class that snuck into the SRD that I'm not familiar with that also grants sneak attack dice).

You're lucky. I gamed with a guy who tried to build a character who was worshiped by a vast number of sentient microbes inhabiting his body... Followers who each gave one pip of Aid to his stats and powers.

The GM struck that one down faster than you can say "13 Speed."

Does anybody else have a mental picture of Erik Mona when trying to imagine what Eando Kline looks like?

...Just checking...

For one reason or another, every time I envision Eando, he's got a pipe in his mouth. Never smoking, he just randomly has a pipe.

Not so much.

Unlike you, I've never met Erik in real life. So when I think of Erik, I picture his icon (a guy with one eye who looks like Mike Wazowski's cousin).

Woah, that came outa left field. I for one, do not, no. I have no idea why, but I keep seeing a younger James Woods in the role myself.

Was this purposeful? This has been driving me nuts, but I never asked. It's got to be, right?

It was on purpose. It was actually a bonus question at the PaizoCon trivia contest.

Thanks, Y8MH, I feel better!

Bards can heal in PFRPG. Which... umm.. whiskey tango foxtrot? But it is what it is.

Liberty's Edge

Bards could heal in 3.5 too, they have always had the lower end cure spells on their list.
