Goblin Songs

I like the little goblin songs.

Reminds me of that cat that sang
"Love to eat them mousies,
Mousies what I loves to eat,
Bite they little heads off,
Nibble on they tiny feet."

I loved the whole goblin mindset they came up with for Pathfinder. I think it was brillant, and I'll likely steal it for my games. I've always liked goblins, but there was always something missing as far as goblin culture was concerned . . . this little bit was just perfect.

The twisted picture in my mind is a race somewhat like Stitch from Lilo and Stitch, but more evil, and singing song somwhat like Gollum in Lord of the Rings.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, I clicked on the pic for #1's cover and was like,"are those goblins? sweet!" Reading the blog about them made them even better.

i love the songs and the mind set just makes me what to run pathfinder more if they haddnt sold me b4 they have now.

Ok, the goblin preview (and a certain tax return) have pushed me into subscriber territory.

Goblins have been pidgeonholed into either evil fodder, silly nuicances, or serious trouble. It's nice to see all three mixed into what appears to be a succesful whole.

You are well on your way. That blog entry is the single coolest bit of juicy gaming gold I've read in years. I started drooling. I wish I could play right frikkin now! PLAY! With GOBLINS!!! NICK MUST!!!

~WEG~ I want a Goblin under my desk as a "sweet" little pet to terrorize all who oppose me! That way they will be the ones to have nightmares!

P.S. - The Stitch comment is exactly how I felt. It is a perfect idea for a Goblin!

That was exactly my first thought: "Hey, it's 626!"

Do you think they sing the Goblin song's like Elvis?

My players often take kobolds and goblins for granted. They just aren't scared of them anymore. So if these new goblins give my players nightmares I will consider it a good day.

Which after I sing them the goblin song, that should give the goblins a scare factor. If nothing else, then just because I'm a horrible singer.

It'd make sense, though.

I'm sure I can remember it, or hey wait, maybe I've just gone mad.

m'naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar

My friend has a band, and I was gonna ask him to just come up with some music to play to that so I could play it at my games when I use this module later.

But if the goblins sing like Elvis...

;)

(I too love the new goblin look. The cover art is now my desktop background.)

I knew a kid in 4th grade whose universal comeback to cutdowns was
"you wish, fish, in a dish, eating squish."

I gotta get a look at this. It's been forever since I used goblins on a party.

2nd ed, Complete humanoids, 3rd level fighters with different mon hum traits.

Good times. The party flinched at the word KOBOLDS for over a year

Ooo... love the new gobbo look!!! WAR is the MAN.

I do believe that my players wil hate these goblins. They already have a foul taste in their mouths for Kender and most especially Jermlaine... in fact they hate the Jinxkin so much that they actually threaten me with a table clearing brawl if I introduce a swarm of Jemrlaine on them!!! I still might do it just to spite them!

The Exchange

I love the "Stitch" take on the critters. Now all I can think about is how to play a goblin PC with the mannerisms of Experiment 626. Gobbu-do, gobbu-do!

I just have this image of this deserted looking village, the party slowly walking down the empty streets.

And then... the singing starts. Coming from all around, and nowhere in particular, then they start noticing the red little eyes in the woodpile, under the eaves, on the roofs, in the water barrels... things slowly creaking open as the singing gets louder and louder and louder.

For best effect, dim the lights, lean in close and start the song in a whisper... Man. These goblins are awsomecreepy.

Now I want to start up a choir of gamers to sing this song. I propose we go caroling around christmas!

[Song deleted. Some goblin songs are better unsung.]

It makes its noise when Goblin sneak
Four leg, one toe, one ugly freak
Big eyes to see; at Goblin peek
We hates, we hates a horse.

It ally with the dog who woof
It watches Goblin on the roof
It tries to crush us with a hoof
We hates, we hates a horse.

But is no problem Goblins said
Our knifes are sharp it blood is red
A snicker-snack and it be dead
We hates, we hates a horse!

i loved the songs in the animated version of "The Hobbit" great goblin and orc songs.

I can still hear that balladeer's quivering vibrato.

And the orc and goblin songs were inspired.

My mom (who's wonderfully cool) made a paper map of the area detailed in the Hobbit, and put the song that has the line "over the misty mountains old, through dungeons deep and caverns cold, we must away 'ere the break of day, to seek the pale enchanted gold."

I get chills everytime I look at that map, because I remember the song.

yep; I would love to have that soundtrack :)

Scarab Sages

I always thought "Where There's a Whip, There's a Way" would make a great cadence.

"We don't wanna go to war today,
But the master of the whip says hey, hey, hey
Where there's a whip, there's a way."

Contributor

Ungoded, I'd heard a version that is similar. It went something like this:

We don't wanna go to war today,
But the lord of the lash says, "Nay, nay, nay!"
We're gonna fight all day, all day, all day.
Where there's a whip there is a way.

Lovely tune.

Scarab Sages

I haven't heard the song in years, I'm most likely remembering the closest reproduction of the actual words my brain can come up with.

According to this fansite for the Rankin-Bass "Return of the King," the lyrics are as follows:

Where there's a whip there's a way
Where's there's a whip there's a way.
Where there's a whip,
We don't wanna go to war today,
There's a way,
Where's there's a whip,
But the Lord of the lash says nay nay nay.
There's a way.
We're gonna march all day, all day all day.
For where there's a whip, theres a way.
Where there's a whip, there's a way.
Where there's a whip There's a way.
Where there's a whip There's a way.
Left, right, left, right, left.
Where's there's a whip, there's a way.
Left, right.
The crack on the back says we're gonna march
Says were gonna march all day all night
And more.
For we are the slaves of the dark lord's lore
Left right, left right, left right.
Where there's a whip there's a way.
Where there's a whip there's a way.
Where there's a whip,
We don't wanna go to war today.
There's a way,
Where's there's a whip,
But the Lord of the lash says nay nay nay
There's a way
We're gonna march all day all day all day
Where there's a whip there's a way.
Left right, left right left right left right
Left right Left right, left right, left right,
Left right, left right, left right.

So much love for the Internet.

Goblins feel for the tender upper limbs of human babies the same way frat boys and bar-goers feel for spiced, chicken throwaway parts, also known as wings.

We sleep in piles
With toothy smiles
Dreaming of making harm.

We sleep in litter
With things that skitter
Dreaming of baby's arm.

We wake at night
And cause such fright.
For breakfast your baby's arm.

We live in s*!*e.
We know we're right
By dreaming of making harm.

This tune is used to coax geckos from their hiding spots to be trained as mounts.

Gecko Becko Bee
Come, come to me.
I don't want your hide,
I want to ride.
Come, come to me.

Gecko Wecko Woo
I want to ride you.
With skin so bright
We'll take the night.
I want to ride you.

Gecko Decko Dot
Come out of your spot.
I'll treat you nice,
No fleas, no lice.
Come out of your spot.

So quiet now we creepses, so quiet now we crawls
So noisy now it sqeakses, so noisy now it squalls
Shhhh....
Soon alls be quiet

We sneaks to where it lays, we follows by its sound
Such a tasty dinner, tender, plump, and round
Shhhh....
Soon alls be quiet

The slicer is so sharp, it cuts the food so nice
Now the food is quiet, one quick little slice
Shhhh....
Now alls be quiet

The woman doesn't notice, she sings and fixes clothes
The man he doesn't notice, the bottle makes him doze
Shhhh....
Now alls be quiet

Let the bigs one live, for goblins this is good
Soon they stops the crying, and make for us more food
Shhhh....
Now alls be quiet

Oh MaxSlasher - thank you for that. I just relived a bit of my youth, though the animation quality was somewhat less than I remembered :-)

Rankin-Bass will break your heart that way. Every combat scene from the Hobbit seems to be "zoom in on a still picture, zoom out of a still picture." :(

I always thought it said:

"The crack on the back says we're gonna fight.
We're gonna march all day and night.
Till morn.
For we are the slaves of the Dark Lord Sauron."

(Sauron being pronounced "sorn" to compact it into one syllable.)
