I've had One-Shot success with "Torrents of Dread" (114), "Devil Box" (109), "Salvage Operation" (123), "Wedding Bells" (89), and "Natural Selection" (85).
I've had fun reading "Beast of Burden" (100?), and "Final Resting Place" (122), "The Last Hunt" (92), and "The Styles" (? - sorry Richard), but haven't been able to fit them in yet. I've used the "Winding Way" from the adventure by the same name. All of the above I think are good, though some might be a tad on the long side for a six-hour session. As for "Chimes" its very well done, but I would sooner weave it into a campaign thereby squeezing the most out of its NPC's backstories. Most of these others require little in the way of set up and offer enough "quirky flavor" to make for a memorable session.

Has anyone here successfully ran Tomb of Horrors as a one-shot? I figure it might be acceptable for one just because your party is almost guaranteed to die before they hit the end, thus limiting the amount of time the dungeon takes. ;)
I think they want the game to last longer than their lunchbreak :) All kidding aside, I have always wanted to run the TOH one-shot. Once again, I will have to mention "home under the range" from issue 134. It is fun for both new and old players, and it has a simple hook to get the game moving forward quickly. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks guys. Will look at each one of them. But right after I posted that I got the D&D letter and was reminded of a grand old module from 1e days - Expedition to the Barrier Peaks and the City of the Gods. Was considering converting them into one shot games for 3.5.
Has anyone seen or done an update for these modules? I am still undecided if I will update them myself or use one of the suggestions here. It all depends on how much time I have I guess.
I like the sci-fi/fantasy modules as they tend to fit in my campaign world. I will be running Incursion as my next campaign and have been foreshadowing it during my current campaign (Shackled City)) and my last one (A Planescape Torment based one but the heroes were from the same world).
Since in my game lore my homebrew campaign is the original homeworld of the Gith and I will be using the 2e and 3e ideas about the mind flayers (race from the future, beaten by humans so their last act was to hurl themselves back in time to try and change history and avoid the destruction of their illithid empire) I figured a crashed space ship from the future who while in pursuit of a fleeing flayer ship crashes on my world.
This way I can reveal lore about my world without telegrahping it too much.
Anyway thats the current (every changing) plan.

Back in the day, we ran most of the old modules as one shots. We really didn't have a campaign. Someone would buy the adventure and DM, and the rest of us would create level appropriate characters. Sometimes we would use the same charaters and just scale them up or down.
The Tomb didn't last long.

Wizards just posted an update to Barrier Peaks on Friday. It's not the whole module, but some of the items, and robots and how to use them with D20. Very cool.
