Has the symbol for the Seekers (the eight-pointed star) been posted anywhere as an image? I know my players are going to ask about it when they come across it, and I'd love to be able to show them an image. I could probably make one, but if there's one out there already that would (obviously) be easier. :)

Yeah, my pcs have made a big deal about having the Seekers rings... They dont seem to occur again anywhere in AOW though. Anyone know of a use for these rings? Any ideas?
Party Loot ;) That's what my guys did. I think I'll have Khellek see it in the store and find out who sold it to Tidwoad... should setup a nice bit of animosity for Championsbelt :)

For those of you that want to use the chaos symbol for the ring- I found a great image of a signet ring with the symbol on the 'net. :)

Unless I can find something that I'd like better (the chaos symbol still doesn't seem to fit, in my opinion), this is what I'll be using...

I can make it into an eight pointed star.
I don't know about the ethics of that though.
If I keep the rest of the ring the same will that be plagerism?
From my understanding of these matters, it'll only be plagerism if you claim it to be a whole cloth creation of yours, if you instead claim credit for altering an existing artist's image, then you're in the clear.

It's not a "created" (i.e. drawn or rendered) image, actually- it's an image of an actual ring (a product for sale). :)
I took the liberty of creating one, as well- I modified the ring a bit, and added an eye to the center. Essentially, my take on it is that the symbol represents the fact that the Seekers will look anywhere and everywhere to find (and get) what they want. :)

Let me know what you think- I'll happily tinker with it or modify it based on your suggestions.

The eight-pointed star symbol of the Seekers is based upon the eight-pointed star figure found in area 1 of "Maure Castle" (Dungeon #112). The chief antagonist of that adventure, Eli Tomorast, is one of the most powerful members of the order, far superior to Khellek. You can learn more about the symbol by reading the backstory of that adventure. As to what all of it has to do with the Seekers, well, that is the subject of a lengthy manuscript by one Gary Holian that shall some day soon show up in Dragon.
Suffice it to say it involves a mysterious figure called the Seer (who originally appeared in "The Ghost Tower of Inverness" back in the eighties) who "founded" the order upon the idea of discovering the secret behind the eight-pointed star enigma of Maure Castle. That search became a metaphor for the greedy search for knowledge of all Seekers. To make matters more complex, this backstory ties into elements I introduced as early as "River of Blood" and "As He Lay Dying," two early RPGA Living Greyhawk scenarios.
The eight-pointed star symbol is explicitly shown as the star symbol at the center of the official Living Greyhawk logo, which debuted six years ago.
I think about this stuff a lot.
The ring itself is one of several extremely subtle things I slipped into "The Whispering Cairn" in hope that a future author would pick up on it later in the series (not the backstory, of course, but the potential of the ring for use as a plot device). The long-term goals on this one didn't quite make it all the way, which I hope to redress if we ever get a chance to do this in hardcover.
Looking at "The Whispering Cairn" exclusively, the ring's placement in the Cairn is meant to put it on the fingers of one of the PCs, where it can later be noticed by Khellek (as possible evidence that the PCs have discovered a treasure-laden cairn, for example).

Well, I guess that definitively answers that. :)
Thanks for the information, Erik. Based on your input, I made another version of the ring (replicating the symbol from the Living Greyhawk logo).

I think I'm still going to beef up the ring a bit with a magical effect so that it's more appealing for a character to keep; I'll leave the backstory alone, though, in the hopes that we find out more in the future. :)

I put mine on the RPGenius site.
I added that it is the earlier version while the one with
the eye is the newer version.
That way some doppleganger or impersonator might mess up.
The one with the eye might have a permanant wizard eye
allowing thoes with the secret password to scry through them.
They would want the PCs to have one.

Cool stuff; thanks!
Anything that has a handout is immediately latched on to by my players.
PC to random passerby: "Hey, know anything about this symbol?"
Should make for some fun times with Khellek and company!
Good work, can I persuade you to create a set of Master/Slave rings from the BoVD?
