When will we receive the Shackled City hardcover?

Shackled City Adventure Path

The title says it all. I noticed in another thread that the adventure will not ship in time for us to get it by July 27th, the previously promised release date. When should we expect it? Thanks!

If you're referring to the second Design Diary thread, Keith said "it is likely that we will receive copies too late to ship out to arrive exactly on the 27th for preorders."

Fortunately, that was what only we thought for a brief moment a week and a half ago. We were able to work around the shipping delay we were facing.

In fact, copies heading to the east coast, and much of the central US, have already gone out, and the remainder should go out tomorrow. Most of the US copies should arrive on Wednesday, though there will be some deliveries that probably won't make it until Thursday or Friday.

Distributors already have their copies, so retailers should have copies on time.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm very much looking forward to getting my hands on this thing!

Sadly, the truck from Canada did not arrive on Monday, so while many people will still get copies on time, a few people in the midwest might get their books as late as Monday. We're doing our best to make deliveries happen as promptly as possible, though, and we apologize if your copy is one that doesn't arrive tomorrow.

According to the order history, my copy hasn't even shipped yet. Is the order history page updated correctly, or is that out-of-date information?

I hate to say this, but I am generally very unhappy with your treatment of orders. I almost never get my magazines until they've been in the stores for at least a week. Now I'm not getting a pre-ordered book until after the stores. Without some improvement, I'm likely to stop ordering from you.

This is correct. We are sorry for the delay, but our large shipment, coming by truck from Canada, and that we hoped would arrive on Friday, is now set to arrive today. We expect that your order will go out today, and your copy will arrive before the end of day on Friday.

Andrew Garrett wrote:

Unfortunately, we have little control of magazine delivery times. *All* subscriber copies ship from the printer at the same time; once they enter the postal system, it comes down to the post office, and the biggest factors in delivery times end up being your local post office and your mail carrier. If your magazines are consistently late (meaning, for US customers, that it takes more than two weeks after we ship to arrive), you might want to consider having them sent to a different mailing address, ideally one server by a different post office.

Andrew Garrett wrote:

Again, you have my apologies for the delay. This is the first time we've ever dealt with such a large preorder, and we have learned a lesson. We'll make sure our initial shipment will cover all preorders with a buffer for last-minute orders, and will arrive well before the intended ship date.

It kills me to have to make this post, but it's now after 4 PM, and the truck with the books still hasn't shown up. The dispatcher isn't terribly forthcoming, but we think it won't be here until tomorrow. The bright side is that we've got everything all lined up so when the books do arrive, we'll be able to turn them around super-quickly.

Sorry, folks.

I'm shocked that you all haven't received your books yet. The local gaming shop by me had a few copies on the shelf today---it took a great deal of restraint to keep from buying it (though I did peak through the covers). I can't wait to have my own copy in my hands. It looks like you all did a wonderful job with it.

Sublimity wrote:

Yup. We are, too.

We did get a few dozen out last week, and we'll ship out the remaining books as soon as we get them.

Excellent! Glad your local shop has 'em.

The thing making this weird is that our printer shipped them too quickly to the distribution channel and too slowly to us. Live and learn, I guess.

Y'all are going to love the books, regardless of which day you get them. : )

Which customers will this delay in shipping affect? Only those in the midwest, or everyone who has ordered a copy of the adventure?

We all appreciate all the fanatstic work you do at Paizo and understand that such delay issues (shipping, printing etc) are, by and large, out of your control.

Recently I have had problems with mail and Vic and James have been very helpful and forthcoming. I personally am amazed at how approachable and professional Paizo is in general. Most organisations remain very disatnt from their clients while Paizo management actually spend time browsing the messageboards even in their free time!

I am happy to wait because I know you guy's are doing the best you can to met deadlines and if their is a problem this time I feel assurred that you will do everything in your power to address the situation next time.

You can't expect anymore than that from anyone in life.

Keep up the good work

Does anyone know what the usual shipping time to Germany is for Paizo shipments? My subscription is just beginning, so I haven't gotten a magazine yet, so I'm curious how long it might actually take.

I can attest to this. I live In New Hampshire and my buddy lives in Massachusetts. Our two towns border each other. We both subscribe to Dragon. My Dragon subscription arrives about one week after his, consistently. I'm sure it's the Post Office.

Any idea on when this will show up at Amazon? (If ever?)

I just got mine at my FLGS. They had ordered 4 copies all of which sold within 30 seconds of the UPS boxes being opened.

I'd be interested to hear the success level of the sales of the first print run.

Man, it is one nice book. Well done guys!

And mine arrived in New Hampshire early this morning. It is by far the finest book in my substantial collection. Gaming is going to be good for a year with this thing. The mint shape this book is in now will *never* last. It will be battle worn with beer stains, pizza grease, and who knows what else. :-)

I am jealous of every last one of you that have your book in hand. I don't think mine will be in until Thursday or Friday at my FLGS.

Just as I expected this pre-order was a disaster. There is no excuse for stores to be getting the book before the majority of pre-order customers. Once you saw how fast you were getting pre-orders in last month you should have notified the printer that the first shipment of x copies goes to you first and no one else. This was my first pre-order purchase from you as well as my first purchase from your online store other than subscriptions. This will also be my last.

is there anyway of tracking the ups shipment
w/out the ups tracking code?
i would just like to see when it will show or where it might be.

I can understand your frustrations. I have recently subscribed to Dungeon a few months a go am are still waiting for my copy of Issue 125 let alone 126 and the Shackled City Hard Cover! But I honestly do not believe this is the fault of the Paizo staff.

I agree that they may have averted the delay in Pre-orders with contacting the printers or setting the release date later but as the old saying goes - 'Everyone is a genius with hindsight'. My experiences with them is that they are genuinely dismayed with the problems that have occured and they (as they said themselves) have never had such a large preorder and have learnt a great deal from the experience.

While this does not help you get your copy earlier I don't think you should right them off completely. I don't believe this sort of delay will happen again afterall everyone deserves a second chance.

Anyhow I really can empathize with you and I still am waiting myself but I think the post is probably more to blame at this point than Paizo.

Fingers crossed our purchases arrive soon

The first shipment we received went out last week, and was enough to cover the people who had ordered before last Wednesday and who lived in 5-day (or higher) UPS shipping zones from our office near Seattle.

The second shipment, which did finally arrive early this afternoon, covered everyone else who ordered before today. The UPS shipments went out this afternoon; the USPS books are awaiting pickup.

We still haven't got any word on that front.

Brian Barrington wrote:

You are correct, and our intention was for that to happen simultaneously. We didn't get that right this time, but we will get it right next time.

Brian Goff wrote:

We are working on adding that functionality to our website, but your package will arrive before that happens.

If you'd like an estimate, you can go to http://wwwapps.ups.com/calTimeCost?loc=en_US and enter 98055 as the "ship from" postal code and Wednesday, July 27, 2005 as the Shipment Date.

I pre-ordered mine on Monday from Paizo – but the status for my order is still “Awaiting shipment”.

I live in Belfast (UK) and can now buy the book from UK shops. Any idea when my order will be shipped?

Alan.

I pre-ordered mine on July 17th and it's still showing "Awaiting Shipment" as well.

I live in Vienna (Austria), and unfortunately can't get it locally at the moment... when'll you ship my copy?

Dark Archive

Hmmm, I pre-ordered mine on the 6th May. I live in the UK (England specifically), mine still shows as awaiting shipment. Costing about 37% of the value of the book on top to ship it ($20). Bit confused about this. Is Paizo trying to say it's their policy to have pre-orders at your door on the general release date because if so that hasn't happened?

I checked my bank, I haven't been charged yet, which kind of explains the awaiting shipment. At the end of the day I have all the Dungeon's, I am running Flood Season as we speak, so the extra new module between Life's Bazaar and Flood Season is now a moot point, unless it has scaling the adventure but with only 3 PCs at 6th level by the end of Flood Season I can probably run as is.

On the flips side though when I advance order from Games Workshop, particularly new army deals, I tend to get them 6 weeks (yes, as in a month and a half) before the official release date. Which is nice. Still never get round to painting them though :)

They (GW) are UK based though so a fairer comparison might be Reaper. I order lots of miniatures from Reaper, mainly for the Adventure Path, and mainly because I love painting miniatures and don't like paying for random lumps of plastics that look like they were painted by someone who has no eyes...or hands. So I place fairly large orders ($250+, largest was about $750) with fairly hefty basic shipping costs due to the weight (the downside of metal miniatures). Myself and the UPS man who delivers them have an ongoing joke about some special status I must have, as the past four deliveries have arrived at my house within three days of ordering. Yes, three days. From Texas to my house in Lancashire. With no special or increased shipping charges.

So now I must take a rather cynical stance that I somehow doubt that when Paizo finally do charge me for my advance order (placed 11 weeks prior to release), presumably several days after the actual release date (thus making advance order a somewhat redundant terminology to use), that it will NOT get to me 3 days after shipping. Which is a shame. I hope I am wrong and pleasantly suprised.

Mild sarcasm aside the previews thus far look excellent, I don't really need it yet (I just WANT IT), and it will probably be worth the wait (Okay, it looks like it will defenitely worth the wait). So keep up the good work, learn from this large pre-order issue, and is it now reasonable to expect my advance order of the Dragon compililation (placed at the same time as my Shackled City Hardcover Order) to actually arrive on the release date :)

Dark Archive

Actually new information has irritated me. The shop in London I usually order from has the book in as of yesterday. If I'd ordered it from them I would have had it yesterday, when I was actually running the game (I use http://www.leisuregames.com/cgi-bin/ca000000.pl). Also, the Place for Games, Paizo's European handler for Dungeon and Dragon Magazine subscriptions had it on Tuesday! How do I cancel orders with Paizo? If I order from my usual UK supplier I'll have the book tomorrow as opposed to sometime in August.

Me + numbers = not good. It should be 98005 (but that won't make an actual difference in shipping time for anyone.)

nightsong wrote:

Non-UPS shipments, including all overseas orders, should begin to show as completed on the website within the next few hours.

Craig Shannon wrote:

We didn't promise that, but it was our target for US shipments by UPS.

Overseas shipments are via USPS Global Priority (where available), or USPS Air Mail(for countries that don't accept Global Priority).

Craig Shannon wrote:

Normally, you contact customer service, and ask to cancel. In this case, it's already been processed, so it's too late - you'd have to do a return after you get it. But you should have it in a few days, not "sometime in August."

Thanks, I thought it might be something like that, but it's good to actually hear a confirmation. It's not that much of a hurry for me anyways, just wanted to know.

Thanks again,

Nightsong

I received my copy today, and it looks fantastic. Thanks for producing such a quality product and keeping in touch with people to explain delays and react to our feedback. Classy job.

Nightsong, you live in Vienna? I do too! I will be in the states for a month more, but we should get together when I get back. I have a small gaming group, and it would be good to meet some more d&d players.
