Oh, I'm originally from Waldbroel, near Koeln. Oberbergischer Kreis. Ich wuenschte Ich koennte oefter Deutschland besuchen, aber das ist alles viel teurer geworden in den letzten paar Jahren. (I wish I could visit Germany more often, but it's gotten too expensive in the last few years)

My mom was born in Saarbruecken. I've been there a few times, but I was very young. I left Germany in 1978, but I've been back to visit many times.
What do I miss the most about Germany?
Broetchen, trains that run everywhere and on time, good beer, 1.FC Koeln (ha ha), Christmas (nothing beats a white Christmas in Germany), people that know how to drive on the highway fast without killing everybody around them, but most of all, I miss all my family that I left behind.
However, I'm glad and proud to be an American (without getting into politics please!)

currently i live in beautiful Neubruke with my wife
right now im in the Hohenfels training area in Bayern.
things i love about Germany:
1. the people (mostly super friendly gregarious people, im from the South of America so it reminds me of people back home)
2. bundeslege (sp) european soccer is awesome and the fans at FC KU (kaiserslautern) are awesome
3. pet loving people are everywhere and i love to bring my behaved dog everywhere i can go
things i dislike about germany:
1. the MTV culture, yea i know it is destroying america also
2. the multi colored hair on females, its cool wen she is 16 but a 40 year old woman just shouldnt have neon pink hair
3. the lack of food options, i find german quisine generally bland and choices for resteraunts are limited to doner, pizza and snitzel.
4. my biggest peeve about germany is the tremendous cost and crappy service from telecom services here... but i understand they were recently privitized.
all in all the good far out weighs the bad and im having a blast living here i only wish i wasnt always in the field training

Someone addressed the point of having to use english material for gaming. Well, I had english in school from 5th to 13th grade, and I´m reading english roleplaying material since 1987 or so, so thats really a matter of usage.

Well, while playing, we of course speak german, with some "technical terms" in english. Right now, I got the german edition core books of 3.5. It is of course easier using your mother tongue, even after all these years. But if I would not use english material, I would miss most of the material (like the adventure paths ;-)). At the publishing speed of Wizards (and Paizo), no german translator could probably keep up. The market here is much smaller, so it would not be economically possible to translate (and sell) everything anyway.

P.S. Has anyone visited the Spielemesse Essen ? I had, and did find some books for really good prices (the original Fiend Folio and the original Manual of the Planes for 15 Euro each :-))

translating those materials is just another way to improve my english language skills. Besides, there is no german DUNGEON, so we have no other choice :)
I'm running AP2 and when I work with the original text, I tend to read over (sometimes crucial) details. I am in the Bamberg area and could make to your location if I knew where. What is the name of your town that is 50K south of Frankfurt? Have you formed a group? And if so are you willing to allow another to join?
I know that Dryder has lamented on the fact that he only has 2 regular players for his game, so I'm sure he would want another one. In our group I have to translate everything because two of the players have never learned english.
Most of the time I do this by reading the original text an translate this "on the fly" but at the moment I work on an BIG translation projekt: Temple of elemental evil/Scourge of the Slavelords/Queen of the spiders.
I had to bring them to 3.5 ed. rules so it was only one step more to translate everything.
I will have to translate Slavers too because I have the characters back in time (for the first 3 modules) and then I plan to bring them back and follow with the Istvin-campaign arc, Slavers and Return to the Temple of elemental evil.

I fear that this would not work out:
We play workday evenings for 4-5 hours, I think the effort getting here would be too much for you for this to be a realistic option. Its 375 km by car, taking about 3,5 hours for one way. So you would have seven hours driving for 4-5 hours play, not to mention that you probably need two days off every time... And then you have to take the high fuel prices into account. Railway isn´t cheaper as well.Don´t get me wrong, I would give it a try, but I just think it is too much effort.
Try locating a retailer shop near you and post a message there. wizards have a retailer list online.
Or try http://www.rollenspiel-service.de/ for finding gamers, although its no guarantee.

Thats a REALLY big project you have started there. Perhaps we could work together, as I´m currently running my group through the original slavers series and planning on using the Queen of the Spiders campaign afterwards. Translations would help me was well.

From Hattingen-Ruhr here, have been playing with English books for almost 20 years now and I just switch back and forth, speaking with my players in German and reading stuff in English.
If you need some help translating some stuff, I worked for Goldmann once, as a freelancer, translating several Dragonlance shortstories.
As for German support...well, according to what I heard the German licensee(sp) charges about €10 more for the PHB... So... guess what stuff I will stick with...plus it keeps my English in somewhat good condition.
