The other day I was thinking that the instrumental version if Westside Connection's "Bow Down" would make for a good way to begun a fight scene. Which ONE encounter from all the Giantslayer books would you use this song for? If you don't like the idea of using that song, then share a really cool song you would use for one encounter in the AP. "The world is mine, heroes get back!"
I created a couple sets of maps to hand out to the players for Red Lake Fort. However, I plan to add some background about the maps being worn and saved from fire. So I did some editing in Gimp, including invaluable help from the burnt-paper script from Patrick Stein... For the files that include "burn me" in the name I plan to actual burn the paper to see how they turn out. Immersion is the key to an RPG! ...
My immediate response to seeing this product was "Oh cool, this looks like it might have been made to go with the "Tournaments, Fairs & Taverns (TFT)" book, a pretty cool little product. Then I realized that's a 3rd party product. http://paizo.com/products/btpy8zyo?Tournaments-Fairs-and-Taverns If this product does indeed go well with the TFT book then I might have to pick up a copy!
I stopped by a rock shop in Seaside, OR and told the guy why I was looking for a geode. I didn't find a geode I wanted, but found a petrified mud piece that worked and he said "if you're using it for a craft like that I'll give you a discount!" I told him I'd pay full price, but he insisted. It's worth it to chat with the workers in specialty shops. Not only do you sometimes get a hookup on price, but they may know the perfect solution for you.
So our party had quite the time in the burning house saving Sara. They left the cleric at the door, who was attacked from behind and by the orcs and knocked prone. Finally got some help out to him before he died, although that almost didn't work out either. The two NPCs were having issues with breathing and falling unconscious due to orcs. Eventually one was able to escape, and the other had to be helped out. The last round of structural integrity lapsed, and burning beams fell down blocking the way out. The fighter and the unconscious NPC were now trapped. The rest of the party was putting water on the fire to give a safer path out and a slight "breather" from the heavy smoke for the fighter still trapped in the house. In desperation, the strong fighter attempted to throw the NPC over the burning beams. I should pause here and share that at our table ALL critical rolls are special, something extra will happen every time. In addition, Natural 20's get a +5 and Natural 1's get a -5. Our fighter rolled a natural 1 on whatever the check was that I gave him to throw the NPC out safely over the inferno before him. As I start describing how he slammed the unconscious woman into a burning beam that was only one foot away, he asked to use a hero point to reroll. He rolled another Natural 1... Someone else quickly stops me from describing a horrible scene and offers one of their hero points to have a reroll. Finally, the NPC comes flying out of the house. The fighter was then able to bash his way through the half burning, half waterlogged beams and fell out choking for air. Another successful encounter!
So tonight I anticipate the party will face Kagak of the Rolling Thunder. I plan on using his MESSAGE ability to have him whisper in common to the party as they approach the tower, without making it obvious that he is the one doing it. I've been trying to think of something good to have him say. Currently I plan to have him tell the party "WAIT! The orc on top is Kagak of the Rolling Thunder. He is alone, but has trapped the tower. The traps are sprung manually by him. You must sneak up on him slowly and quietly so he doesn't trigger the traps." Then I'll have him whisper to the orcs below in orc "they're coming, get ready". Then if they try to slowly open the door the orcs inside will have a surprise round to ready an action. Not sure if that's the best way to work it out, but it's the best I could come up with. Anybody else have any good ideas on what to have Kagak whisper to the party?
Chris Lambertz wrote: Sometime in the next week, along with Hell's Rebels :) Hey Chris, I have a landscapde pdf insert for a GM screen I made for our Giantslayer group that I thought would be cool to share with the community here, but I'm not sure how to make sure it's ok with Paizo. Can you tell me where I can post that file for Paizo to verify if it's ok to share? Thanks!
If the Giantslayer AP is available before we get too much further into our campaign then I hope to pick up the GM version and the AP data, as well as the player version for my group. We're still just over half way through book 1, but I don't want to by the AP data if we're too much further than that. And if I don't buy the Giantslayer AP data, then it'll probably be quite a while before I'll have need for RealmWorks. I'd love to pick it up now anyway, but I don't have a large amount of funds and don't want to waste my Cloud Service time waiting for the AP to come out. If anyone knows of a better place to put in requests for which APs are high on the list I'd be more than happy to move these comments over there!
Nice to see the quick response from the developer on this thread! For those who may not be aware, the map pdf's that came with the Giantslayer AP are completely interactive. Does anyone know of a good way to resize them for printing and playing on? The grids look so square, but making them an actual inch x inch grid on a print is almost impossible for me. I've spent a lot of time in GIMP trying to get it right, using various scaling tools, and cannot get it just right. I end up having to settle for close enough...
You could always go with the PC's intentions, and have it "leak out" that Grask was planning a double cross to kill the leaders of Trunau. That would take out your plan of a truce. However, it would also unite your party, together with the town of Trunau, against the orcs. The PCs could even end up claiming the castle as their base once that's said and done. That would resolve the conflict, and help them move on to slaying giants... especially if a recruiter shows up at the castle afterwards looking for the giant they heard was living there. Hope you're able to bring your party together! Let us know how it works out.
Not to take away from this thread (I think it's pretty cool), but have you seen this? Tournaments-Fairs-and-Taverns-PATHFINDER I don't have the Pathfinder version, but I do have the regular version and we used that for the festival.
I might think of it in practical terms: "Hey, you want to join us in an adventure?" (PC 1 & 2) "Sure!" "We need someone who has experienced traps, so they are more familiar with when to look for them, how to identify them, and how to either get through them or avoid them so we can accomplish our goals." (PC 1) "Great! I've experienced traps, and have thereby learned some of those skills you're looking for." (PC 2) "Sorry, I'm not familiar with traps." "Player two, you would be a burden to the party. Gain experience with traps so that you can use that experience to develop talents related to traps, and we'll be back to pick you up on the next adventure." ...cheezy explanation, and not what the original post was looking for, but I felt it was worth contributing :)
We had a member of our party die last session, and the player insisted we not bring him back to life. It would have been funny to bring him back anyway, but he had "the curse" so we disposed of his body instead and took his loot. Now he has a new character, who immediately started off very secretive with our group. We want to give him the gear from his old character, but we want to have a bit of fun with it. Does anyone have any good ideas or stories that might help. So far the only thing I can come up with is to do a private session with the DM to drum up a story that would intrigue the new character, and draw them into a goose chase. One detail I forgot to add, my character is lawful good dwarf fighter (who HATES magic), so it's got to be something he would do. My character doesn't trust someone who refuses to even reveal their face to him, but at the same time welcomes those who are willing to fight the good cause (lawfully, of course). Thanks!
We ran into what seemed to us as an unclear area of the rules. A character provoked an Attack of Opportunity. The baddie had this: Grave Touch (Sp): As a standard action, you can make a melee touch attack that causes a living creature to become shaken for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 your wizard level (minimum 1). If you touch a shaken creature with this ability, it becomes frightened for 1 round if it has fewer Hit Dice than your wizard level. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier. Can Grave Touch be used as an Attack of Opportunity? We had three basic interpretations at the table, not sure which of the three (if any) was correct... ***************

We were able to deal with reasoning and table decisions. What I'm looking for here is an official Paizo position on this. I've done a lot of searching and cannot find anything from Paizo that clarifies this. Please let me know if you have somewhere that Paizo does clarify. Thanks!
Unfortunately I didn't think of logging the items I saw until way to late in the voting. The item I thought was the coolest was Cloak of the Phoenix. I game for epic experiences, and the cloak would provide that while being limited by price and by the one-time-epic-use-burnup clause. I'm surprised it didn't make more favorites lists! Anyone happen to have the text for that item?

Thanks for the input Andrew Black. I was hoping to submit the Borrow Beast in round two, but I put the cart before the horse. I have an entire campaign concept centering around the Borrow Beasts, hopefully I'll get it all together, and put in a better submission next year.

I had no idea how to really set the CL, and I changed the price like 3 or 4 times before submitting because I wasn't sure, but... I'm ready (head turned away, squinting), hit me... Marrow of borrowbone (ink set)
The ink is placed using arcane mark, except:
Character Requirements:
Arcane Marks of the Borrowbone Pact grant the ability Borrowbone Pact (Su): As an immediate action and summons, partners in a Borrowbone Pact can instantly exchange items equipped in the same marked slot at will, one slot per round. If an item is swapped more than once per day by using this ability, it has a 5% chance of being destroyed immediately. If an item is destroyed in this manner, neither character can equip an item in that same slot for 1d4 days. Construction
Interesting... (the least amount of time it could possibly take... clicking the vote button the second it's available, and having the next timer instantly start) Star Voter : 1 hour, 40 minutes
I'd prefer not to use the equally good/bad button, and some of these items coming up multiple times look pretty cool to me. They're items that I WANT to vote for multiple times. but if one vote for one of these items bumps my item out of the competition, then I've only got myself to blame for the other guy winning... I voted for him to win even though I had no opportunity to vote for myself. To say that every vote counts, but that they're drops in the bucket, leaves me in a bit of a predicament. If a moderator can assure me that my item is receiving the same repeated appearance for other users, and those other users can be assured to vote so they don't skip my item like I'm skipping theirs, then I'm fine with voting multiple times for the other items. But if they're not aware of this, they may come to the same conclusion I came to. A side note, it seems like the items I'm seeing multiple times are mostly the items that I voted for... not items that I voted against.
I'm seeing some of the same items multiple times. Some items twice, and item or two 3 times. I know I haven't seen all the items yet as I haven't seen my own. It seems I'd be giving the competition an unfair advantage by voting for their items multiple times without voting on my own. Please fix this soon mods, as I'd like to vote properly instead of skipping on repeated items. Thanks for putting this whole thing together!
here's another rpg that we've enjoyed... http://www.scribd.com/doc/91648110/Holy-Lands-RPG-Light-Edition-Rules this is used in conjunction with the main rules... http://www.scribd.com/doc/91647814/Holy-Lands-RPG-Light-Edition-Devil-Hunte rs-Manual more docs can be found here http://www.scribd.com/holylandsrpg I have a three year old daughter who loves telling stories (we have Rory's Story dice, tons of family fun). My wife wants to game, so I think we're going to start a family game in the next year or so. I'm currently on the lookout for Pathfinder adventures that I can run them through that do not involve much of the world of Pathfinder's religions. any suggestions would be appreciated! |
