I know it's not right now, but is this something that might be in the future? Pretty please? Most of my reading is done on one digital device or another (primarily my Kindle or my phone) and even the lite versions of the PDFs cause me grief. Don't get me wrong, I love the art & whatnot, but lugging around all of my books isn't always an option, and it's frustrating when it takes forever to load every time I switch pages.
I recently took a couple of PDFs I had purchased (GMG and APG) to be printed and bound at Kinkos, and it ended up taking way longer than it should have (IMO) because they had to call and speak to somebody in your office to get permission to print it (they would have bound it NP, but printing that many pages at home is a PITA). My question is this: Is there a specific page on here or a disclaimer in the books themselves that gives permission for printing/reproduction of PDFs for personal use? I'm not printing these to resell them or any crazy stuff like that... I like to have PDFs so I can browse on my computer, but I also like to have a hard copy. I know I could get this by getting the RPG subscription, but I don't necessarily want to own every book. Thanks!
Running a low magic (almost no magic) game and someone will be playing a "summoner" their eidolon will be a construct and their SLA summons will be constructs as well. The only thing I'm left to adjust is the spell list...my first thought was to give them the alchemist mechanic & spell list but I'd like to keep the alchy a unique class. A thought I had was to give the summoner the "discovery" mechanic and let them come up with gadgets and whatnot. My only concern is that this would be too weak. Thoughts?
Senate votes to end ban on openly gay troops 17 years after it should have been done but, as the saying goes, better late than never.
Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem Are Having an Anchor Baby At least Fox News can now openly admit their racism...
OK, so you can use a large bastard sword with a -2 penalty. Since you have the option of using a lance one-handed while mounted, does that mean you can use a large lance with both hands while mounted at the -2 penalty? I don't really see any difference between lance bastard sword in this regard, so...thoughts?
Singleton replaces weapon training 1 and gives +1 to hit and damage as long as the fighter is fighting with a one handed weapon and the other hand is empty. It does not increase with level. Compare this to the archer...Expert archer provides basically the same thing (also at the expense of weapon training 1), yet it increases by + 1 for every 4 levels beyond 5th. Which of these is correct? I'm inclined to lean toward saying that Singleton should read like Expert Archer (rather than the other way around), but figured I'd ask and see if there was an official ruling on this yet.
Iran Blasts US for Plans to Execute Virginia Woman If I remember the full details of the Iranian woman, part of the reason for her sentence is arranging for the murder of her husband (by her lover). I'm not saying that the Iranian woman actually committed the crime, I'm not saying that either deserve to die. What I am saying, however, is that if we are going to condemn Iran for enforcing capital punishment maybe we should put our money where our mouth is. Virginia is about to execute a borderline mentally retarded woman even after evidence has surfaced showing she's probably not the mastermind she was made out to be and simply someone who was duped. If we want to save that Iranian woman from being stoned to death, we need to put off slaking our bloodlust and halt the execution of this woman in Virginia. Will Iran still execute their prisoner? Probably. But at least we won't be hypocrites.
Spoiler:
I will apologize upfront for the lack of a link, it's been a while since I read this story and I CBF looking for it. So I remember reading a story awhile back asking a question that doesn't get asked very often...what happened to the last great climate scare, the hole in the ozone layer? Apparently our efforts to repair the ozone layer were not in vain...it has started to close back up. What does that have to do with global warming, one might ask? Apparently there is a group of scientists that believe that, by "saving" the ozone layer and allowing it to rebuild, we have hastened the onset of global warming. In a way it makes sense. Our insulation had a hole in it that was allowing heat to escape. We have since closed that hole and now the heat doesn't have a place to go. Now, I'm not a huge environmentalist, but I don't think that global warming is a lie like some do. I just find it odd that, no matter what we do, we seem to be screwed. Maybe we should implement a rotational plan wherein we use ozone depleters for X number of years, then stop and allow the ozone layer to repair itself, and do this cyclically (sp?) so we can control our temperature swings. Oh well, what do I care? The world's ending in 2012 anyways. I wonder how many times the line "you don't want to die a virgin, do you?" will be used on the evening of December 20, 2012? Spoiler: sorry for the rambling post :P

House Democrats Slam Google-Verizon Net Neutrality Plan The main thing that concerns me in the article is this line:
Article wrote: Rather than pursue the Google-Verizon plan, the FCC should move forward on its "third way" to regulate broadband, according to the letter. This option, which was proposed by Genachowski in early May, would narrowly reclassify the transmission of data as a telecommunications service that the agency could directly regulate, balanced by a hands-off approach to other aspects. Does anybody else see the potential catastrophe here? The FCC over-regulates TV and radio and hands down major fines for "inappropriate" transmissions; what's to stop them from doing this with the internet if they get control? The alternative of "package" internet (getting a subscription that grants you access to a grouping of sites) isn't really much better, but it soulds like google/verizon had neutrality ready to go...the only thing it didn't cover was wireless ISPs.
aside from the sparkling, "vegetarian" vampires. It was my wife's turn to pick the movie we went to, and she wanted to see was "Eclipse." So, doing my husbandly duty, I went to see it with her. My problem with these books/movies is that it seems that the author put all sorts of work into the backstories of all of the characters...except the two main ones. While the rest of the main vampires have decent backgrounds (and I actually thought the concept of vampires in the civil war intriguing--Deadlands, anyone?), Edward and Bella are trite, cliche, 1 dimensional characters that could have been ripped from the pages of any angsty, teenage love story. It's like she had built this whole world but didn't have a plot to go with it so she threw in a pedophilic, controlling lead man and an angsty, the world is against me teenage girl. That and, while I realize that the vampire genre has been done again and again and that any new piece of literature needs to diferentiate itself from the rest of the stuff out there, you can't have day-dwelling, sparkling vampires!!! At that point they're no longer vampires, they're fairies with porphyria. /endrant
So I was running an AP and decided to slightly modify an encounter to have a true lycanthrope rather than an afflicted lycanthrope. One of my players botched the save for curse of lycanthropy, and now I'm wondering how this will affect his character. I remember in 3.5 once a PC became aware of the condition and deliberately switched from human to one of the forms, they automatically took on the alignment of the base form of lycanthrope (ie.-werewolf CE, werebear LG, etc.). Is this still the same, or has been removed? EDIT: I modified it anticipating he would become afflicted, but didn't really think far enough ahead to all the questions I'm asking.
OK, so I noticed that Amiri (a la KM pre-gens)uses a size L bastard sword and has EWP(bastard sword). Does this mean that, with the feat you'd be able to wield this beast two-handed with no penalties, 2h with the -2 penalty, 1 handed with the -2 penalty? I'm a bit confused here. Is the purpose of having the feat so that it can be designated as a 1h weapon and can therefore be used 2 handed (whereas without the feat it wouldn't be weildable at all)?
Found while flipping through an archeology slideshow on Yahoo news. Apparently these lil guys were discovered in 2003, but I don't remember hearing anything about 'em.
So the airlines started charging for bags shortly after katrina (IIRC) due to high gas prices. Gas has since fallen to half what it was then and tickets haven't got any cheaper and were still paying checked baggage fees. I guess once consumers get acclimated to something the big corps wont let go of it (yay capitalism!). What brings up this rant? I'm flying to WA state for a wedding and its cheaper for me to buy and discard a portable crib for my son to sleep in while I'm there than it is for me to check it as baggage there and back ($50 to buy one, $70 to check it). Now i see that one airline is charging for carry-on luggage in addition to checked baggage... Not to mention that liquids are a no-go, but you can still bring on powders (xmas bomber) and things like deodorant (doesn't c4 resemble deodorant?).
Tea Party candidate says he thinks individual business owners should be able to discriminate WTF? Seriously? You would think they would be a little more cognizant of what their candidates are saying on the public stage, especially after their first major primary win. I guess it just goes to show that the best way to deal with an opponent is to just give them enough rope to hang themselves with. OTOH, it is Kentucky, so hell, it might just help him in the polls... EDIT: Link may not work...I refreshed the page and was given a server error @ Yahoo.
Waterworld was available on the Netflix instant streaming so I watched it the other night. It had been awhile since I had seen it, and all I could remember was how much people said it sucked. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of suckiness--it was a hell of alot better than I remembered and people always said it was. Anybody else watched any other "crappy" movies lately with unexpected results?
Has anybody who played the original Deadlands and Deadlands: HoE tried out the d20-ized version? I was a fan of the original, but the complicated system made for some difficulty finding groups. Just wondering if the D20 system does it justice and makes for an enjoyable play or if I'd be wasting my money buying it.
I'm writing up an adventure for my group and I'm going to try for a post-apocolyptic feel (I'm thinking deadlands: hell on earth). I want to have access to firearms, but not so much that they're the ONLY weapon anyone takes. My first thought is to have firearms function like repeating crossbows. Rifles would be heavy repeating crossbows, pistols would be light repeating crossbows, and the hand crossbow would be the derringer (low damage backup weapon). They would have the same damage and crit stats, but proficiency would be martial and cost would be for a standard crossbow (since all firearms would be repeating). Additionally, pistols could be used either at range or in "melee" combat (much like a dagger). Now here's what I would be doing to limit their use. Ammunition would essentially become the new money for this world. Rifle cartridges would be GP, pistol cartridges would be SP, and brass casings would be CP. I believe that this would still allow people to use them, but would limit their use in such a way that traditional hand-to-hand weapons would still be required. A new skill, craft(gunsmith), would allow for shells to be reloaded (provided there is access to gunpowder and lead) and for firearms to be repaired. Thoughts?
So I ended up with 4 players instead of 6, so I didn't have to modify the encounters (yay!). Ambushing the bandits: Went off without a hitch. PCs hid behind the doors and slammed them close once the bandits dismounted. Happs dropped in the second round before he got to take an action (besides piss his pants). One bandit fell to an AoO while fleeing like a little girl and a second was executed to "encourage" the surviving bandit to help. With this bandit in tow (and being more than cooperative after seeing what happened to his buddy), they head for Thorn River Camp. They decide to go the plains route rather than trek through the forest and come into the bandit camp from the South. Midway they had a random encounter with a giant whiptail centipede which they handily dispatched (although the fighter took a pretty good bite). Thorn River Camp: The surviving bandit (which the party re-named Lester for some reason), drew a crude map of the bandit camp and warned the party of the tree-stands. The party snuck in and the archer took out the sentry on the tree stand with a well-placed arrow. The bandit in the other stand throws the thunderstone and the fun begins. Wizard dispatched the other tree-stand bandit with a summoned viper, a lucky bite, and an un-lucky fort save by the bandit. That left Kressle and two bandits. Party focused fire on Kressle and dropped her in 3 rounds; two bandits flee, one falling to an AoO and the other getting dropped to 0 by an arrow to the back. Only party "casualty" was the dwarven wizard who caught two arrows and was dropped to negs as he ran to hide behind the log after he summoned his critter. Thoughts: I might have been a bit too lenient with the information that "Lester" gave the party, but they did exectute a bandit kneeling next to him and string up an unconcious (but still alive) bandit from the parapets of Oleg's post so I felt it appropriate. All in all a productive session, and they're looking forward to starting exploring and questing.
I love how the right says the SCOTUS is full of activist judges when they hand down a decision that can be construed as even remotely liberal, yet praises them when they do something like give corporations rights equal to that of an individual citizen. It simultaneously makes me want to laugh and throw something. That is all, carry on.
Arrowstorm (Combat)
Thought this up while pondering why archers didn't have the same options as melee characters to target multiple opponents with a standard action (ie.-cleave/great cleave). Simply giving an archer a feat such as cleave and great cleave seemed too powerful given the ranges archers are capable of. Any thoughts/constructive criticism are welcome!
I know that these have Power Attack as a prerequisite so it is implied that it is to be used with melee weapons, but is there anything RAW preventing an archer to pick up Great Cleave to be able to lay down covering fire against a group of charging orcs or the front line of an oncoming infantry squad in a large-scale type battle? |
