Played in a Jessica Redekop Planescape game at PaizoCon several years ago. She's one of the best GMs I've ever played with. Highly recommended.

We have a conversation in my company's Yammer (which is like an inter-company Facebook) where someone is griping about how Spotify is blocked on work computers.

Funny thing: Jammer means 'too bad' in Dutch and the Y sound can be sutstituted for the J sound in cases so we're pretty sure microsoft didnt run the name patst any dutch speaking/understanding individual.

And a totally depressing downer for my (likely) last post of the day:

Our long-time hiking partner is finally likely to pass away within the next week or two. It's not particularly tragic; she's 95 and ready to move on. But she's asked for no visitors, no gatherings, nothing. She just wants some peace and quiet and then she's ready to go.

I'm respecting that wish and leaving her alone.

And my brothers are horrified at me for it. Can't I at least call her?

My feeling is that it doesn't matter how I feel about the situation. She's the one who's dying, and her explicit wish is to be left alone in peace. Who am I to disturb that for my own wishes?

EDIT: And to be 100% clear, she is NOT a "drama queen". She's always said exactly what she meant. She's clear of mind and not suffering from any form of dementia. And she made it clear that she didn't want to be bothered during her exit.

My condolences.

Eve texted me today to let me know that Hermione's horse is dying.

Combination of old age (he's almost 30) and Cushing's disease.
And, thanks to WW, she won't get to see him to say goodbye.
And of course she texted me this in the middle of the school day, so I had to hide my weeping from my students by inventing a need to go to the supply closet.

Mancubus is so funny!

I have finished the main story of Borderlands 3. It wasn't bad, though the big bads were rather so-so. Funnily enough, they reminded me of the twins from Far Cry New Dawn—another game I received as a gift from NobodysHome.

Still, it was a good, fun game, and I still have multiple DLCs to go through.

Like, the wedding DLC is better then the main story.

(1) Yet another 6:30 am car alarm in the neighborhood. Years ago, multiple consumer advocacy groups conclusively proved that car alarms do nothing to protect your car; they are entirely for show and to irritate your neighbors. Yet you can't buy a car without one. (The Celica has a disabled car alarm system we refused to pay for. The Prius came with a built-in one which has "only" gone off 3-4 times in the car's 15-year lifespan.)
I'd love to see the entire U.S. consumer population start refusing to pay for them. "I see the MSRP on this car is $22,000, with $800 for a car alarm system. Well, right off the bat I'm taking $800 off the price of the car because I'm not paying for that."
Just a massive, concerted effort to get those things the h*** out of our cars.

You barely find them in cars over here anymore. Its really strange nowadays when you DO hear one of them go off.

I had a heroforge color mini made, as I got it cheap because of the kickstarter. Its OK. Some details do get lost, but you can see the ring on the finger of the character. The armor looks the best of all the colors.

Could I paint it better? Absolutely. Do I have time? ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no. So its a decent compromise.

I was thinking of you while checking the animals thread the other day.
Do you still have rats? I'm down to one, but saw some 'old' rats up for adoption that I might have to adopt to keep my old fellow from being too lonely.

Not at the moment. The last group of men all went quite quickly and it left quite a hole in my heart. But I do miss having rats so its just a matter of time.

Borderlands 3 plays mostly fine on this computer, with only a small freeze periods when loading new zones and some cut scenes.

Borderlands 3 is the least game in the series in my opinion. The story overall is weaker. There are still some completely over the top moments in there and riciculous guns and boss fights. and in the end, isnt that all we ever want from borderlands?

Wondering again if my son is on the spectrum. We went to get our flu shots, and just liked last year, he completely lost his s*** and punched and kicked me repeatedly while I tried to hold him.

It doesn't hurt much since he's only eight, but it was a little unnerving.

Friends kid who defenitely is on the spectrum did that a while back when blood needed to be drawn for lab work.

Sadly, when I googled "air vents smell like sulphur", what I kept getting was "sewer gas". Which is worrisome. But it doesn't smell like sewer. It smells like sulphur.

Search engines are influenced by people using them. I doubt a lot of people would know sulphur so maybe you get better results googeling 'air vents smell like rotten eggs'?

Okay, some news.

Just found out today checks clock about 4 hours ago that my boss is resigning. His last day is Nov. 5.

Everyone here is aware of the various misadventures I have had with him and his way of doing things over the years. Even in his announcement to us today he made it very obvious that he is an older Caribbean man that doesn't use computers unless he is at work and is very behind the times with respect to what is appropriate banter in the workplace in 2020. It seems that him leaving would be a good thing for me both professionally and privately, although I do NOT want his job(I may still end up going for it anyway, although I doubt I would qualify for it). I'm in shock. A lot of shock. If anything in more shock than I was before when I first heard. NO IDEA what this means professionally, although I very much fear more work is coming my way that will keep me from the aspects of the job I love. I also fear the boss may check out or get insufferable the closer we get to his last day. Jesus. I'm gonna have to plan some kind of event as I have known/worked with him the longest. Oh god.

Email from Victoria's Secret "Madison Beer, from Victoria's Secret. Light up the night".

My first response is "That's weird, you wouldn't expect Victoria's Secret to branch out into alcohol sales" it turns out Madison Beer is the name of the most recent supermodel they're advertising.

Fortunately, this is Wisconsin so if I do want to get my wife some underwear and pick up a six pack at the same time I can because there's a specialty booze store in the mall.

But, it's still a little disappointing.
