Really sorry to hear that. I hope you bounce back soon.

Tarn, who was in no way injured, shrugged. ”Aye, makes sense. Get everyone patched up, as gold is of no use to us dead. We’ll get it so yer blood stays inside where it belongs, and then let’s tackle this place right proper.” He said with a smile.

Likewise work is brutal (I’m an attorney. Had a promotion recently. That’s great! The work is harder. That’s not great). Also in-laws will be moving in. Immigration plus redoing our basement and more…it’s a lot. All of my games have fallen hard, and to be honest I’ve been thinking of just dropping gaming altogether. I really do apologize for my lack of posting. If the game continues I’ll be here. It is a great campaign and I do enjoy it…it’s just life is hard. :p

Tarn winced. Walking face first into traps was the only way he knew of finding them. He had really hoped that Argyri‘a skills would have served the half-elf better.

Tarn gave a giant grin. "That's because ye can see up high and I down low." He said, pleased at the unexpected kind words. He put every fiber of his being into proving Argyri correct.

Tarn raised his weapon...and it was over. With a harumph he spat at where the ghosts once were and consoled himself that they obviously were not worthy of his attention.

Hellish rebuke

Returned from overseas! Was welcomed back warmly by work, with lots to do, and some unexpected family medical issues and the sad reality that my computer is fully dead (only posting via phone until I buy a new one). Will catch up with the game as soon as possible.

"Look, are we letting the lad go? Don't think that we're being paid to kill him. But...if he runs off, he could just take our boat?" Tarn wasn't happy. A simple job was getting complicated. He hoped that someone else knew the best course of action, and that doing so would be simple enough to do immediately.

Tarn was quite glad to take a rest. He idly played with his ring, feeling a warm glow infuse him as the minutes wore on. Before long, he felt as good as new. The horror of nearly dying fading and the lure of gold to be earned already driving him onwards.

Unable to get into grips with the enemy due to the choke point, Tarn willed his hammer to change shape into a longbow. Getting into position to fire, he was ready to do what he could. If the enemy wanted to hold positions, he would make them pay.

Tarn stayed on his feet...just barely. His pride kept him on his feet, as he was unwilling to go down again right after his comrades had got him back up. Glaring at the veteran whose blade was stuck in his side, he raised his hammer...and swung it at the man's companion. If he thought this was a duel then he was sorely mistaken. The only way they were going to survive is if they fought as a team, and that meant using their numbers to bring the enemies down.

Feeling woozy from blood loss, it was only due to the ministrations of Badger and Kwin that Tarn was able to get to his feet. He swung his hammer, more out of desperation than anything else, hoping to take the enemy down before that damnable spear could skewer him again.

Tarn took a solid hit from the spear, unable to defend against the flurry of blows. If not for his armor he’d have been easily skewered. Still, the solid plate gave him the ability to take the attacks and to return with one of his own, giving (almost) as good as he got.

As we are going underground:

“Deep Miner: You’re used to navigating the deep places of the earth. Grinning as he fought, Tarn didn't even notice the skeleton behind him as it swung it's weapon at him. The weapon never connected. Rather, ice and frost formed on it, causing it to literally freeze in it's tracks. Moving on, the dwarf continued to swing him hammer about wildly, obviously enjoying himself.

For two months, Tarn tormented his kinsmen with his singing.

"Brothers of the mine rejoice!
(Swing, swing, swing with me!)
Raise your pick and raise your voice!
(Sing, sing, sing with me!)
Down and down into the deep
Who knows what we'll find beneath?
Diamonds, rubies, gold, and more
Hidden in the mountains store"

It was fine at first. With enough to drink, a few even sang with him. But his joy at being underground again did not let up...

"Born underground
Suckled from a teat of stone
Raised in the dark
The safety of our mountain home
Skin made of iron
Steel in our bones
To dig and dig makes us free
Come on, brothers, sing with me!"

A few of the older dwarves 'leaked' rumors to him, of great veins that lay untouched in the deeper mines. Something which he went towards with gusto. Unfortunately, his songs continued to echo through the tunnels, filling the dark with his joy and mirth.

"I am a dwarf, and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole
I am a dwarf, and I'm digging a hole
Diggy diggy hole, digging a hole"

When his damnable cheerfulness didn't subside, it became clear what the old grumblers had to do. They had to keep an eye out for another adventure so that Tarn might go bother someone else. So when Argyri was summoned by the Mariner's Guild, the more crotchety longbeards were quick to bring the news to Tarn's attention. There was no way that they could allow him to stay behind. A few of the beardlings had taken to singing as they worked as well, and they could not imagine the consequences of letting his disease of the mind spread to a new generation.

Tarn was as happy as he could be...he was rich! So rich! That was, until he talked to Luz. As it turned out, he would have been able to buy a magical artifact of legend...if he had not spent so much on enchanting his armor and clothing before. He had been so close to being able to truly show off and to become a legend himself. So, so close. If only he had not spent so much gold! So he did the only sensible thing. He consoled himself by buying a bag of holding. Luz merely had to tell Tarn about how it could hold nearly anything. That he could put all of his heavy plate armor in it, and carry it all around as if though it weighed nothing. That he could carry all of his gold and platinum without anyone knowing it was there, so that he wouldn't be a target for pickpockets. How he could carry as much loot as he wanted (within reason), so that in the future he could afford what he really wanted. So Tarn, in the interest of saving his gold, immediately and without hesitation spent more of it on the bag. It was an investment! He would have been a fool not to.

Lvl 6 Warlock Tarn Copperlocks HP (49/49) AoA (15/15) AC (19) Saves (5/2/4/0/2/5) Spells (1/2) Current Buffs ( AoA ) HD (5/5) Flight (3/3)

Weird, I keep typing in 1d4500 and it comes out as 1d1001
1d1001 ⇒ 580

Let’s try 1d2000
1d1001 ⇒ 824

So that’s the max that can be rolled.

4d1000 + 1d500 ⇒ (992, 528, 267, 610) + (217) = 2614

Can’t afford that. Let’s try for an uncommon magic item. Cost: 1d400 + 100 ⇒ (62) + 100 = 162
Weeks: 1d4 ⇒ 1
