When Rose announced that the trail was going to be held private, Karliah scowled, briefly. It was just like that female... for all her talk about honour, and saying that Karliah had no right to question it. She was certainly fine going around giving her reasons to question it. Shaking her head in disgust, Karliah looked around, hoping to see where Siobhan was.

Considering the Feudal system of law, the fact that your request was granted for others to judge the accused should be a significant gesture...not sure where you are getting your idea of a modern court system from.

Talirin nods to the crowd acknowledging their trust and moves to the side to let the process begin.

Inside he believes we are wasting our time on the murdering scum and this shows we are indecisive. ..but he is willing to see it play out if Rose sees value in it.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Just seems redundant if the bold means the same thing as "" but if the GM wants us to follow this I am okay with it.

Not saying it is grammatically correct just the way we have communicated via the PBP in the past.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Placing bold on your text is the way you typically indicate speech on the PBP's, or is at least in the 20-30 PBP's I have all been in. It is rather confusing when people use "" and don't bold...its rather hard to pick out the "" vs. the bold text, even though it may not be 100% grammatically correct.

“And how will someone else being judge make a difference to that?” Karliah questioned when Rose came over, after saying that she should keep her consul to herself. “Are those five going to be the only ones in the trail? The only ones to judge him, and no one else there to see it? That hardly seems like a fair trial to me. Plus, you gave me even more reason not to preside over the trail. Your bias, with an alternative agenda to simply seeing justice done.”

Talirin's hackles start to rise and his hands grip his Shortswords tightly as Karliah continues to question the honor and judgement of someone she met only 10 minutes ago.

When Rose makes her request. He walks up to two of the more trustworthy guards, Timor and Gundred.

Timor, Gundred. The Duchess needs a word with one of the newcomers. Please give her some space but I expect you to keep her in view and safe. I don't yet trust them and their motives. Do you understand? Good, please see to your duty, I have to escort the prisoner.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Just be glad this one doesn't have laser beams on his head...

Or be the one known for letting possible mass murderer live. Whatever the orb is or does seemed to have perverted Sam and if he were to escape he could kill more than a few before we might stop him. I am not cold hearted, just practical given our current circumstances. The guards are unlikely to be able to deal with him, with the little training they have, and we can't watch him all day and night.
Build a jail...have you seen how we have survived in these caves? Better we use the time and resources to build shelter or defenses.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

What should we do with Sam? as he carries the man behind Rose.

He has tried to kill you...we have no real jail and he is too dangerous. The sentence should be death. he say with obvious remorse in his voice.

"My name is Siobhan Beldam, I am Rico Beldam's sister. I volunteered to come as an ambassador of sorts to promote co-operation between our groups. As to how I got here I simply followed your captain-of-the-guard here."

Looking over at Talirin she smiles broadly. "Perhaps the guards were following their captains example? Besides the chaos going on back there was awful. I tried to get people moving away from here but I suspect my success was limited."

Well met Siobhan.

Unlikely that they were following my example, most have never been guards before and have little formal training.
I am doing my best with them but I am new to the position as well and we have just started their training. I hope to change that soon.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

If you wish my council Rose, I agree we should destroy the
thing though it would be nice to find out where it came from.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin never put his blades away...he steps behind the two women.

They appear, at least on the surface, to mean us no harm. Siobhan could have attacked you while you were busy with Sam and did not.
Karliah on the other hand...it is good to meet you...
flashes a toothy smile, But I have not seen you before.
It looks like the guards will need a stern talking too about who they let past.
I am Talirin by the by, captain of the guard...I suppose.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin's tail waivers in worry, Duchess, be careful...I am guessing that thing is dangerous.

He looks to the shadows for any other enemies that might appear.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin leaps into combat, using flank to aid him and his allies.
Sam? What are you doing. Lay down that orb and your weapon or I will kill you as you stand!

MW Shortword atk 2 flank 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 2 = 32 dam 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

He slices Sam on the back of his neck, almost removing his head from his shoulders.

Crit potential damage:

MW Shortword atk 2 flank 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 = 16 dam 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 bah!

I was also out for the holiday, next time I will try to let everyone know. Back into it now and ready to post!!!!!

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Sorry for the delay back now!

Talirin sprints into the cave with his swords out and sees several guards he knows and trusts, Where did the duchess go? Did she go the direction of the evil?

When they point in the direction of Rose he sprints away at a speed not seen by the folk here before! He yells back to the unknown women, I am in charge here if the Duchess is not here. If you want to help follow me!

Using the run full round action and using my racial ability. Sprinter: Catfolk gain a 10-foot racial bonus to their speed when using the charge, run, or withdraw actions. So I should be able to move 160' each round I believe.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin would stay.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin wakes early and exits the cave, putting himself at a good vantage point to see anything coming towards this area and waits for anyone/thing coming towards them or leaving the cave...

Taking a 10 on stealth for a total of a 23.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

It's too dangerous splitting the group but I am also hesitant to send Polar to his doom alone...what do you all think?
My concern is he may be gone for some time.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin will watch over Nephele as she works unless Rose has another specific task for him.

He strikes up a conversation with the Sylph, Nephele, you seem to have some gifts of Nature, it is in your nature or something more?
Do you think we can bring the outside world back after it has been poisoned so badly?

Thank you, thank you all. You are all most kind, but I couldn't have done it without the others here and all of you! We are all one folk and we have to look out for each other.
Now let's get this food secured and see about exploring the outside world!

He is rash and likely going to get himself and possibly others killed.

Getting yourself killed is fine...potentially endangering others is not. He growls.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Just keep in mind that the food group was going to be back by mid-day. You could always wait until some of your hunter/fighters get back to help lead the search...let alone your elected leader...

Rose Reneva wrote:
You're not wrong, but for that we need to know where we'll be building and where we'll need to clear of dangers.

Was just thinking we should clear the immediate area of dangers so that our people don't go wandering around and get themselves killed. When I followed Polmar to the abandoned tower something followed us as well...flying. Whatever it was seemed to be something possibly hunting him. For all I know he is dead now.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Rose, now we have some food stores perhaps we should explore and clear the surrounding area of dangers before we worry about building outside? Once we establish an area of relative safety or people can help build without as much fear off attack.

Tal stays hidden but tries to see what might be following Palomar. He also draws out his weapons.

I don't like this. Whatever it is may just carry him away.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Are you sure you really want to find out what is in that building alone?
There is a dangerous noise coming from within that building and you just want to stride right up to it. I think I will let you go in and watch from a distance if you are determined to risk your life. My mission here is just to make sure you don't get captured by Orcs...or something worse.

Tal will duck into some bushes and watch...
Stealth take a 10 for a 23.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

I have heard of magic where the user can summon things. Does anyone have this type of magic?

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin does his best to not to get irritated at what he thinks is a petty argument,
This goes both ways Polmar AND Rose. Acting hastily and without consulting the group endangers us all.
Rose is the ELECTED leader of our colony. Like it or not that is how our democracy works. Should she have discussed killing what was basically a prisoner, probably. Should you have discussed your plan with her or us to follow the Orc, again probably.
Going off by yourself while we know nothing of our surroundings is even more foolish though.
Both of you, swallow your pride and act like people who know that the needs of the many out-way the needs of the few, or the one. And Rose, know that your rule is predicated upon the agreement of the colony.
If you can both agree that these are the most important parts, maybe we can learn a lesson from this so we can get back to the business at hand of surviving.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

@ Jalel, If you Wander off on your own you endanger everyone if you are captured. As much as you are free to do want you want you also need to think about the greater good.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin walks up overhearing the conversation, I have to admit I am not a big fan of killing people outright.
That being said having the Orcs possibly know about other humanoids in this area...with other groups in the area they have sent out disappearing, if they survive whatever this "encounter" was they may search us out.
I would rather we keep our presence unknown as well. I understand your motives, they make sense but maybe we should make sure we stay unknown for now vs. any intelligence we gain by tipping our location.

If this creature is as powerful as you say, we should stay clear of it for now. So many unknowns...

Perhaps we should stay close for the moment. It seems there are plenty of dangers around and wandering around by yourself...well I wouldn't want a group of Orcs suddenly finding you.

I think after we gather the food we found we will be doing plenty of exploring.
Where did Rose wander off too???

Team A as you get back to the city you notice no one is around and the orc bodies have been moved. As you look around a bit you do come across Nephele, you can see her just outside the city looking at the area around her.

There is nature girl over there. Maybe she knows where everyone is?

Tal bounds over to her at the last second leaping over her to land facing the women.

How goes it Neph? Where is everyone? as he flashes her his best toothy smile.

Just because the lizard man seems powerful I am not sure why we would be interested in allying with Orc scum against someone who is more powerful than they :].

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

ooc Talirin is generally generous with people's motives when it is races he knows (most of the common and uncommon races).

When it is a perceived monster race (like some lizard man on steroids) he would be more skeptical. Now that we are out in the new world he will be more skeptical. Like the Orcs, whom he perceives as threats to their survival, he would do things to them he probably wouldn't do normally...like torture.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin puts away his swords and comes out from covert. He waives with a friendly smile to the departing group.

that went about as well as could be expected. At least they are potential allies and not enemies.
Let's get back and bring the others up to speed.
We still need to get that food by the way.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

I am fine, just listening at the moment.
A mush as Talirin is interested in the other group, he is more interested in making sure Rose is safe.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

I believe that actually means you get +2 to damage after 4 levels not an expanded crit range.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

being more unusual races we may scare them before we can get to know them.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Benny and I will stay back and cover you in case of trouble by sneaking in behind them. They may be potential allies. By not showing your weapons you show you are not afraid of them as well as not threatening them. If they threaten you we will take them from behind.

I think polmar snuck off between your orders and us leaving.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Who made the plants grow? Perhaps they can be helpful with the signed of the battle.

Talirin moves to the lead. Let me take the lead, no point in risking yourself needlessly. he whispers, then sneaks on.

take a 10 on stealth 23

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Rose, we should try to lead the path away from this area to delay our discovery. If we place the Orc's bodies between our area and theirs it may look like the Orcs met a bad fate away from our area and perhaps delay them exploring near here.
Otherwise they might know they were supposed to look in this area and send a larger group to investigate.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Tal's cat eyes grow wide as he sees the magic Jalel utilizes.

He whispers to Rose, More effective than the blade. Let's learn what we can. If they find out about us know, while we are weak, it will come to war, and we will probably not win. They probably will outnumber us.
I have a plan though that I think will buy us some time...

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Eventually going to take 1-3 levels of Rogue I think but not now.

4th Level items:

+1 Reflex save
+1 Dex
Bonus Feat: Weapon Specialization (Shortsword)
+11 hit points
Skills points 6:
+1 Acrobatics

+1 escape artist

Standing behind the Orc with his blades in its back Talirin shakes his head no to Rose when she poses the question. (where the Orc can't see).

Perhaps we should tie them up and talk about our next move?

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin takes two more swipes at the Orc, he mood fouled by the plants that have him wrapped up.

MW Shortword atk 1 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 2 = 25 dam 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
MW Shortword atk 2 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 2 = 14 dam 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Potential crit:
MW Shortword atk 1 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 - 2 = 15 dam 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

If the Orc is still up he forces his will upon it:

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

An invisible casterwho is not directly involved with the combat, as far as the Orc can tell, I don't see why he would get the additional save. Plus you become visible after you target him with the spell.

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Talirin takes two more swipes at the orc attacking him, continuing his verbal assault on the creature.
