M

Also, I got the opportunity to speak at a conference next week. The conference is at a camp in the back woods, and so I'll be off the internet from the 7th to the 14th. I do apologize, but feel free to have Sumisu do anything logical. He has precise bombs now, so at least he can do that every round. I'll be more regular when I return as I have about 7 hours of teaching time to prepare for.

M

"This may not be where the chief resides. Tanooki has spotted a larger villa on the other end of the compound that looks much more like a place where the chief would be."

M

The small figure follows along as well, but keeps well back as to not spoil the silent figure's chance for surprise. It would be good to be rid of this chief, as they wouldn't have much trouble with the tribe after he was dead.

Tanooki, being outside, flitted about nervously, wondering if he should come in or not. He had no indication from his master, so he should probably wait. So that's what he did. And, while he was waiting, preening seemed like a good idea.

M

And it seems an alchemist is light on blasting...

M

The little man rummages through his loose robes and pulls out a flas of boiling liquid as Tanooki makes for the door. He tosses it in the mids of them, hoping to catch them all.

Goblin:
"You call that a firework?"

Ranged Touch attacking square in the middle of the three goblins: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
DC 16 Reflex save for half, 7 points of damage

M

"Fair enough. We can go find him. I'm not so tired as to require sleep as of yet. Also, I don't mind the activity. I want to make my books last longer."

M

The short robed figure paid no heed to the dying goblin. "If we are tired, let's rest. Anything attacking here should believe there isn't anything else of value, and if goblins return that have run away, we can collect their bounty as well."

Spoiler:
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

M

Sumisu nodded at Kayosin's quick understanding of the language and continued writing, adding a note of his own.

Goblin:
[b]"And you can leave, find a wench and make your own clan."

Aid Another: Bluff 1d20 ⇒ 6

M

The small figure pulls out his paper and begins to take notes. He relates the goblin's comments made earlier to the group as he writes them down.

"They have a peculiar accent that I did not expect, but the fundamentals of the language are the same. I should be able to act as an interpreter for anyone who wishes to interrogate this one when he wakes."

M

Sumisu weaves his hands again in an attempt to daze one of the goblins with a spell. His demeanor seems a bit more serious since his aim seemed to be off with his previous color spray.

Daze: DC 15

M

Sumisu casts a quick spell hoping to take them off guard. Tanooki stares wide eyed at the proceedings, to stunned to really react as of yet.

Color spray, trying to get two of them if I can. DC 15 Will

M

Hey, sorry for the delay, my browser had quit registering new posts on a couple threads I was following. Sumisu would have tried to listen in on the goblins, as he knows their language. Also, he is ready to back up the group with some magics.

M

The small figure thinks about it for a minute and decides to come with. He gestures to Tanooki, who flies up into the trees and follows Kayosin into the circling pattern of the village, staying back from him about 10 feet.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

M

Well, take your time Spiral. I'm still here anyway.

M

Yes, do enjoy the trip. I love a good road trip.

M

Sumisu pulls out a piece of parchment and takes some notes as Tanooki nods his approval at the group.

His small tenor voice makes itself heard for a short moment after the battle. "Shall we approach? There may be some things of import in there."

M

Sumisu will attempt to hit one of the creatures with a bomb before it comes close. He rifles around in his cloak and lobs a glass vial with volatile contents inside.

Since we are standing in water, if I don't hit, I imagine that the bomb will do nothing because it doesn't work underwater.

M

Sumisu cocks his head to the side. "Well, I think we are here already and we should check these things out at some time, it might as well be now. But if you would rather come back later, I suppose that is alright as well. Lead on."

M

The odd little man hurries along, taking in the sight of the ruined boat, scanning his memory for any hints or stories he might have overheard in the bars.

Sumisu stays to the back of the room, but casts a spell on the ratling, hoping to cause it some panic.

Cause Fear: DC 16

M

The small figure waves some people over into the house. "There have been small humanoids around here, but I cannot identify which type from the tracks. We should explore the house thoroughly so we can rule it out as a hiding place. It doesn't look like Magus has been here for a while."

M

Sumisu calls to Tanooki, who flies in from the branches of nearby trees. The cowardly owl hoots and bobs his head, as the two scan the area for any sign of Megus or the vile thing that was impersonating her.

perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

M

Sumisu takes a quick bow at Kayosin. "Thank you for your assistance, but we may be needed outside as well."

Sumisu has a remaining move action, if the threats are gone in here, he would move outside.

M

Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
And he fails too!

Sumisu gets bit on the arm and squeaks in pain himself. The small white cloak begins to roil and the tentacle again makes an appearance through the cowl reaching out to strangle the assailant.

Attack:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Damage: 1d3 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

M

Sumisu, having not gone very far inside suddenly realizes that he is kind of alone in here. Tanooki takes flight for the door and escapes into the open sky, and Sumisu readies a bomb, hoping to take out a rat or two. As he lobs it, he winces a bit, realizing how many specimens of fungus he is about to destroy.

Also curious about the rats, he scans his mental encyclopedia to see what they might have in common with things he has read.

Knowledge, Religion or planes should do it. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

M

Sumisu becomes busy working on taking notes about the various fungi that line the walls. Despite being born in the dark, he had not yet done much research into fungal forms and this was a veritable cornucopia of samples to study.

Tanooki, having finished his nap, takes interest in what Kayosin is yelling and hoots a bit to accentuate his exclamation and flaps his wings as to be more easily seen.

M

Sumisu shrugs a little, while Tanooki prepares for a nap. "Well, we did come here to gather goblin ears, but it would be good to do either. Which is closer on the map?"

M

Sumisu puts away his scroll and cocks his head back a little as to see Straehan and Kayosin from under his shadowed cowl. "Sinspawn are shock troops of ancient Thassalon. Recently there was a discovery of a Rune Well under Sandpoint that can make them. I don't know what they would have been doing here, unless they escaped from there in the last couple years. I don't know what kind of monster the Soggy River Monster is, but if these were it, I'd be a bit disappointed. Intellectually and academically that is."

M

Sumisu pulls out a scroll and begins taking notes. He mutters a bit, quietly to himself, "Sinspawn, that's strange. I would have thought they'd have died out Milennia ago. Well we are in the right area, so that's not terribly surprising."

Tanooki floats down and lands on the small figure's head again, taking a moment to preen himself and adjust his plumage in case one of the lost feathers might have been unsightly.

M

Sumisu throws a bomb behind one of the new monsters to try to burn it with an indirect hit and racks his brain for information about these creatures. They seemed familiar to him somehow as if he may have studied them before. Tanooki leapt off of his head and flew up and out of harm's way, losing a feather or two in his haste.

Yeah, pretty much on sight he can do that if I'm allowed to take 10.

M

The small figure seemed to look up at the were rat, with just a bit of awkward silence. He seemed a bit more lonely without Tanooki on his head. But despite that, the little man placed a white hand on Braydon's arm to assure him that he was not upset like before. "If everyone went by smell, I would be rather straightforward. I've mostly had problems with those who trust their eyes."

Sumisu takes a minute to address the Goblins in their native toungue

Goblin:
"Sandpoint is angry about the firesticks. It be best to go start another tribe before Licktoads have same problem as Thistletop."

At the sounds of them preparing to leave, Tanooki flys in and finds his normal perch, glad to be part of the action again, bobbing his head at everyone. When asked, Sumisu waves off the potions, but does quaff one of his own. The small head lists to the side as the cloaked figure speaks out again. "The plan is sound, and it would be good to have one less threat to people around here."

M

The small cloaked man pulled forth a scroll and made a note of it. "Let us go to the ruins, I'm curious about what they believe I am."

M

A small white hand comes out of the small white cloak and taps Straehan on the shoulder to gain his attention. "What's the fourth rule?" the small tenor voice intoned.

M

I think you might have missed my Magic Missile in Round 4, This round Sumisu will hang back and attack with his tentacle.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

M

Sumisu steps back and fires a bolt of energy at the standing Hellknight, his tentacle snaking underneath his cloak to acommodate his casting of the spell.

Cast Magic Missle 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

M

The white robed figure steps back and withdraws his tentacle. Things seem very well in hand, and there is no telling when the next problem might occur.

He will take an AoO if he gets one, but otherwise will not do much of anything.
Attack 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

M

Seeing the fleeing creature, Sumisu tries to cut off his escape. The pink tentacle snakes out of his now tiny robe, grasping at its body, but the creature is able to wiggle free of his grasp.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage 1d2 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Grapple: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

M

Sumisu staggers a bit from the blow. There is definitely something wrong with this picture. He pulls a vial and takes a swig, and the world becomes much bigger for him. He steps away from the big guy who is trying to knock him out and sees if the new perspective is good for him.

Cast Reduce Person

M

Sumisu weaves through the sudden crowd. Trying to spot the leader, he casts a spell while Tanooki flutters to a corner of the room.

Cause Fear DC 16 on the commander unless my cohorts have done more than 15 damage to him, then I will use it on the least injured enemy.

M

"That sounds like a fine plan."

Sumisu takes great interest in the mark, taking a copy of it in his notes. He studies it and references it with the rest of his notes.

Linguistics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

M

The small figure turns to Kayosin. "That may be true, but I wouldn't want to rule it out. Of course if it attacks us blindly, we won't have much of a choice."

Sumisu bows at the halfling, causing Tanooki to readjust on his perch. "Thank you for your hospitality. Tanooki is a smart bird, if you ask him not to eat snakes around here, he will not. He prefers to eat mice and rats anyway.

M

"Well, it sounds as if this monster isn't so bad if he is preying on these faceless stalkers. Should we try talking to it?"

M

Sumisu follows the group, wherever they might go. He has been withdrawn and sullen since the last fight though, and has barely said a word to anyone. The deep gravelly voice left after about ten minutes, replaced by the tenor voice again. There has been a lack of movements underneath the cloak, except for a little shift here and there that denotes the unusual occupants.

Tanooki however is his old friendly self, bobbing his head at people like he is holding conversation. His nap seemed to invigorate him.

M

Goldilocks had bitten clean through the tentacle as well as the monster, but it parted nicely for his teeth, slipping through them like floss and reforming the tentacle on the other side. The end of it was sharply tapered, like a tail, but it was close to nine feet long if it were a tail, and might be wrapping around Sumisu's little body, giving the impression of a shifting form. The part of it you could see roiled and curled a bit, not acting like any sort of natural tail.

The figure bowed slightly and continued in his gravelly bass voice. "My many apologies for my indiscretion. I have never seen such a creature before. What you have seen here is merely an arcane machination, A result of my inquiries into the mysteries of Nethys. It is not inherently evil, nor am I. Please do not be alarmed."

Tanooki, having seen that the combat was over, flew down and perched again on his master's head and started bobbing his head and flapping his wings a little, as if he was trying to take the attention away from Sumisu and talk the crowd back into more friendly terms. The tentacle swung like a whip toward the edge of the bridge, and the gore from the creature slid off from the centrifugal force into the water. After that it quickly snaked back into his cloak.

1d20 ⇒ 15

Sense Motive DC 15:
He is not only telling the truth, but he seems to be quite embarrassed just as if someone had inadvertently looked up his skirt.

M

The slam from the creature causes more violent movement beneath the cloak. A large pink tentacle snakes out of the open face hole of the covering and wraps around the offending creature, squeezing it and causing it to bulge in places it shouldn't. From the small opening, a gravelly bass voice grinds out toward his opponent. "Fool! I am not your kin. I hold allegiance to whom I please."

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Damage: 1d3 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

O.O

"The horror…. the horror…"

The things that aren't seen are always more scary than the things that are.

M

Sumisu pulls out another potion and takes a swig. The robe moves unnaturally as it seems strange things happen underneath.

Spoiler:
Sumisu takes his Cognatogen, +4 to Int, +2 to NA.

M

It seems that there is still some distance between the enemy and our front fighters. If there is still a guy with no one within 5 feet, I will hit them directly, otherwise, it will be thrown behind with splash damage.
Attack: Ranged Touch 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 Reflex Save: 15 for 3 damage if caught in splash.

Sumisu sizes up the problem and reaches inside his robe. From inside comes a vial with a fiery red liquid within, that is lobbed toward the strange monsters. The resulting explosion when it lands makes the ears ring slightly, but leaves a small mushroom cloud above the landing site.

Tanooki shakes himself back to some semblance of sense and takes flight to get a better look at the lay of combat. If there is any more coming to the fight from a distance, he will likely be able to spot it from the air.

M

The transformation does not seem to take Sumisu by surprise, but he makes a note on his scroll and flips it to the side. He also, likely on purpose, wakes the sleeping owl who flutters to the side as well, his eyes wide but unfocused as he is wondering if he is still dreaming. The small robed figure focuses on the problem as the front liners rush into melee.
