Satisfied for the moment that the first wave is down, Red sprints back up to the top of the tower to keep and eye out for more invaders. "I think they might be interested in burning us out," he mutters to himself. "If anyone has any ability to douse fires, now's the time to speak up," he hollers down the stairs. Gazing out at the little pinpricks of light beyond the edge of his vision, he says, "Ah, what the hell," and aims for one of the lights.

Red returns Amasa's grave look with a nod. "We won't fail you," he says. But he does hope they complete their task quickly. He pops out to let the others know the specifics of the mission as of now. "We keep the enemy out of the house. We don't need to hold out forever, just long enough."

Red likes the idea of firing up the lighthouse. "I'd help with the catapult, but too many cooks in the kitchen... I'd just be in the way." But with a little oil, it shouldn't be too hard to light the tower, right?

Red was hoping he could just stay at the top of the lighthouse to watch for trouble, but he shrugs as he's instructed to be present at the ceremony. "Always had a bit of a thing for tea anyway," he murmurs. Although he's rarely one for appearance beyond combing his hair, he's actually wearing pretty fancy clothes of green and brown (sort of like a kyudo gi, with billowing pants[hakama], and a flowing top that leaves his left shoulder and arm exposed[haori]). He looks a little uncomfortable in the outfit, despite it being very comfortable clothing. If things go south, I can always run to the tower.

Red helps the others search the place. Constructing fortifications is not in his wheelhouse, so he pretty much stays out of that.

if there's a little time then before we leave, Red would be interested in browsing some of the herbal merchants and alchemists in town, maybe even a tea shop. Would he be able to pick up a few things? While not good at schmoozing, he might as well give it a go while out.

Fortunately, this is not the first time Red has had to dress up a bit. He paws through his pack to make sure that his courtier's outfit was brought along. Satisfied that he has that covered, he says, "As bodyguards, I assume we can continue to have weapons on display. I would like to know, what can you tell us about this Way of the Kirin? I confess to knowing little about them or their history."

Another lean young man walks in, this one with a really nice looking longbow. The rest of his accoutrements seem... so shabby by comparison.
btw, this may get confusing with us having the same picture :)
Raph's player: Looong time gamer and lover of roleplaying. I like to have fun with characters and settings, such as playing the super-powered ghost of Elvis or an enthusiastic pet dire wolverine. I actively check boards, some might say obsessively, and respond/post pretty frequently (Wednesdays are my long days, so I'm a bit more constrained to the late evenings). I love the over-the-top, insidious yet hilarious feel of goblins in Pathfinder (and am so bummed you can't use them in PFS). The home rules you've described give this a sort of Feng Shui vibe that I think I can really work with.
Raph... a teenage mutant ninja goblin... more or less

---===Background===---:
I don't recall much of my childhood. A few pictures, images, of stuggle, pain, and brief flashes of relief when I managed to get a full belly. No, my memories start when the humans opened their new factory. We lived down slope from a human city, my brothers and I. We would sneak in from time to time and steal, food, pets (also for food), whatever. They threw stuff in the sewer all the time. We had pretty easy pickings. And then the strange liquid came flowing down the sewer. I didn't think it would bother me, I mean, nothing else in the sewer ever did. But over time, I noticed myself changing. And not just me, all of us. That's when he found us, Splintr. I think he was a ratman; I never really asked. He certainly was very rat-like. He took pity on us and dedicated himself to training us. He taught us to speak properly, he taught us to read and write. And he taught us to fight. To test our new skills, we began to roam the city at night, picking fights with the low-lifes, dealing with those the city wouldn't, or couldn't, deal with... the pesh dealers, pimps, thieves. We really felt like we were making a difference, though we never showed our faces. That all changed when a new warrior arrived. Clothed in spiked armor and calling himself the Shreddr, he defeated us and took over the criminal underworld. In a last ditch effort, we set a trap for him, leaving me out in the open, while my brothers lie in wait. But he saw through our ruse. I was hit from behind. When I awoke, I was alone, on a raft, far from my home. I found a note in my pocket, in Master Splintr's hand writing. "Stay away" was all it said. So now, I'm alone, lost in a strange place. I guess I'll have to make due. Perhaps if I find others of my kind... ---===Appearance and Personality===---: Eyes: Black Hair: None to speak of Skin: Green Height: 3'2" Weight: 35# Raph is not a normal goblin. The chemicals he was exposed to greatly affected his memory. He remembers nothing of his early goblin life, and has no experience interacting with regular goblins. His culture more closely resembles that of marginal human populations. In fact, he has very little idea what goblins and their society are really like. He may be in for a rude awakening.

There isn't a benefit for switching it to a normal skill, but since perform is a vital skill for bards, it seems like having it be a background skill is kind of a gimme. As for the second question, it is not pointless to have multiple perform skills for a bard, particularly if you have the versatile performance ability. For non-bards, it's more of a flavor thing, but not necessarily pointless. There are after all a few interesting feats that require a particular perform skill that you might otherwise not get.
This has been an interesting discussion to read and think about. I was going to suggest the smart-ass idea (like using it as a coat rack) but Bob Bob Bob beat me to it. I would point out to the Cabbage-Basilisk thread that one of the ideas we have to work with is modern definitions of art that simply are not the same as historic/ prehistoric views. The whole concept of "art for art's sake" is probably a recent creation (keep in mind "recent" is subjective). For most of human history, art most likely had functional attributes, whether magical (like painting a scene of killing a bison to influence your bison hunt), or ceremonial (there's reason to believe that certain cave paintings for example were used in either religious or secular rituals), or whatever. Coming from different traditions of art and viewing excellent craftsmanship, we come to think of them as artistic, and they are, but they aren't at the same time. For example, the mention of the British Museum. When the Brits (and other colonial powers) came into new areas, they often stole objects claiming that the natives wouldn't know how to protect their own art (even though some of these works were hundreds or thousands of years old). The Euros viewed these works as art; the natives may have viewed them as having historical value, religious value, or other values (even something simple like a pot can have artistic value though the potter just used it to cook soup).

Tobias takes a swig of rum to coat his throat. Me, Tobias "Deadeye" Craggs, started off as an abandoned wee lad in the streets of Port Shaw and was gettin' into all sorts trouble in order to survive [Survival Skill, Reactionary Trait]. Me either forgot who me parents were or never knew 'em. Wun day, me got into trouble way too over me head so I stowed away on a departin' slave ship (former that is). Thee captain order thee crew to grab me, but me squirmed like a fish out of their grasps every time. After a while, thee captain fired his musket pistol in the air, "Boy, yer puttin' me behind schedule and ther is no where to run! Either you become me cabin's boy or me gonna have to give you a third eye to put me back on schedule! Aye?!" Seein' me wanted to live, me gave up and after bein' tossed around by a bunch of scullywags, they delivered me to Captain Black. Captain Black said to me, "Ya know what a cabin boy does son?" Me shook me head for no. He said, "Yer me parrot without wings and yer new name is Fish." Me looked at him funny and he angrily replied, "Son you need somethin' up there. Yer me errand boy!" Me of course, replied "ya." He corrected me, "It's AYE CAPTAIN! AND WELCOME ABOARD THE AZURE FIERY!" Lat'r, after repellin' a couple of boardin's, Captain Black handed me a musket [Gunslinger] and placed me in the crow's nest because he had small crows nest and me was thee fish. He said to me, "Anywun who can slip pass me scullywags must have what ya takes to shoot good. Besides, me crows nest are too small fer most of thee crew. Me need to stop givin' them so much rum!" Thee next time somewun attempted to board us, me was a shootin' them off thee bordin' ropes and they was fallin' into Davy Jones' Locker left and right [Musket Master]. One day, me ran out of bullets and somewun came to de-nest me. Me used the butt of thee musket to send that mate to the deck. After that battle, Captain Black gave me a cutlass as back-up weapon which I still have today [Cutlass in equipment]. That was a good yer for us and made a ton of gold. Of course, most of that year's gold was used on Rum and pleasin' thee lasses in port. The armor me used on ship and goin' to shore was too heavy, so the remainin' treasure along with a stipen' from Captain Black went to buyin me new armor in Port Shaw so me can swim, fight, and walk in without me tirin'. [Rich Parents Trait {Captain Black and the Scullywags}, Mithral Chain] After me grew tire' of thee Azure Fiery, me gathered my share, me goods, and placed it in a "borrowed" row boat. Me surely spent a lot of gold on rum and lasses, but I still had enuff to get me some new equipment and find a new ship. After a revelry with the crew and lasses brought on board, me was sent off pirate style by walking the blank and swimming to catch me row bow to row into Port Shaw before night fall. Once in Port Shaw, me headed for thee inn for a night's rest. It felt weird without thee rockin' of thee ship, got up, purchase sum equipment and here me am." Tobias takes another swig of rum and begins to sing with absolutely no talent at all ... "Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We're rascals, scoundrels, villains, and knaves,
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
Takes another swig, "Arr!!!" Appearance: Tobias looks like your typical scullywag without an eye patch, tall, slender, average build, shaved head (bug control), brown stubble, salty dirty buccaneer's outfit, and a cutlass with scabbard. However what stands out the most, is a slung clean finely crafted musket with a metal glass tube on top, a clean leather crisscrossing bandoleers with a ship load of unspent bullet cartridges, and appears to be wearing no armor [under first layer of garments]. Personality: Tobias is not cruel nor is he good, there are certain things he will not do like shoot unarmed people unless they attack his crew or are lethal unarmed weapons like a brawler. It is not because he is saving that person's life, he thinks it is a waste of ammo. Then there are times, he may save the person. Regardless, he will surely deprive that same unarmed person their wealth. He works well as a team but keeps his distance while he socializes unless they are not scullywag women. One thing about sailors and seadogs, you never know when they will turn on you. If the Captain orders to shoot a person, he most certainly will unless he can get out of it and there is no reason as to why he is shooting the person. He may show acts of kindness one minute and then what would be considered evil another minute. Make no mistake, Tobias is a scullywag born to be on the world's oceans. Roles: 1. Rear Support - Primary - Reach Out and Touch someone.
