Yeah, I've heard nothing.

Sidonia rushes around behind Brehorm before approaching a goblin off to its right. As she gets in close, Sidonia makes as if she's going to try to squeeze through past the goblin by hugging the wall. But at the decisive moment, she stops and thrusts at the goblin with her rapier instead.

Feint (Deception): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Damage: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + (1) = 5

1. move 25', 2. Feint, 3. Attack.

Hopefully I did all that right. The sneak attack damage only applies if the feint is successful.

I was just about to post to ask what's up but you beat me to it George. Things come up. PbP is always a marathon rather than a sprint and gaps, hiatuses, and so on are always part of the deal. I'll keep hanging around.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

Sidonia moves out to join the group forming up to oppose the oncoming goblins.

Just a move this turn.

When Sidonia hears more goblins are approaching, coming up from the south, she hurries over to take cover behind the stage. Crouching down so she's completely out of sight, Sidonia presses against the wooden wall and waits to see what develops.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

Sidonia calls out the goblins she's spotted along with locations. Seeing the big guy named George if she remembers correctly is perhaps overly busy, she hops down off the stage and draws her rapier as she walks up behind the goblin attacking him. When she's close enough, Sidonia thrusts with her weapon to stab the goblin in the back.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (4) = 10

1. Move 15', 2. Attack Goblin #1, with flanking from George, 3. Raise buckler(I guess?). Not sure I need stealth here, but included the roll for it just in case.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

Sidonia appoints herself spotter due to her elevated view from the stage. She loudly points out the group of goblins over at the vendor's wagon to the west, then looks around for more of them elsewhere.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

Unlike most everyone around her, Sidonia doesn't flee south deeper into the town. Maybe she would have if she knew much of anything about goblins, but she doesn't. She does know goblins are quite small and rather dim. So, she feels no sense of panic or urgency. The prospect of seeing a goblin, and perhaps a bit of combat to spectate arouses her curiosity instead.

In any case, Sidonia is armed, though it is a coincidence she has her rapier. As she was dressing earlier Sidonia was both rushed by her family and tired. She selected her deep blue doublet with mustard yellow embroidery to wear, and the best matching belt happened to be the one she used for carrying the weapon. She couldn't be fussed to undo all the buckles involved to remove it, so the sword came with her.

Since most of the alarms seem to be coming from the north, Sidonie walks on over to join the crowd of people gathering in front of the cathedral. She jumps up onto the stage to ensure she has a good view.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

Sidonia is a very average 5'4" and slender 100 lbs or so.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

When alarms begin to be raised, Sidonie is surprised and confused. With a questioning glance at Ameiko, she stands and begins to look around. The crowd is thick though, and she can't see anything out of the ordinary.

Sidonia has her weapons, but for typically silly reasons rather than preparedness.

I'd say it depends on whether Lavi is more oriented toward the deceased or the bereaved. If the former, then Pharasma. If the latter then Vonymos.

When Sidonia is finally free of her family, the first thing she does is go looking for a cup of strong black tea or coffee. She needs something to give her a pick up after less sleep than usual and a bunch of speeches.

After her first quest is completed, Sidonia opts for a half-portion of the Rusty Dragon's curried salmon combined with a couple of the farmer's pears. She avoids having any alcohol so early.

Sidonia has never felt comfortable strolling around while eating. She finds a bench or barrel at the Rusty Dragon's kiosk to sit on while having the meal. Since Ameiko is there running things, Sidonia chats a little with her when Ameiko has the free time. She tells Ameiko about being at her place the prior evening with Foxglove, and also brings up the new play opening at the Sandpoint Theater.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

Sidonia doesn't get Cyrdakk's opening joke about the two pirates. She understands it perfectly well, but doesn't see the humor in it. After that first stinker, Cyrdakk does well, especially considering he's a last minute replacement.

She notes with interest his mention of substantial donations to the project from Niska Mvashti, whom Sidonia would not have guessed to have that kind of money socked away, and Aldern Foxglove. Foxglove surprises her as well, she hadn't really taken him for the profoundly generous type. But, she also notices Titus Scarnetti's displeasure at the mention of his name.

Maybe I should dig in to this mansion kerfuffle. There may be something juicy there. Is Aldern's donation less generosity or piety, and more a bid for good will? Is he making some sort of behind the scenes power play? Is the battle over that old mansion's ownership more than it seems? Some deeper, more personal bad blood between the Foxglove and Scarnetti?

The possibility of layers to these things makes Aldern as least 50% more attractive to Sidonia than he was before.

Also, the announcement of a new play opening is doubly delightful to Sidonia. First, while she has been mostly guessing when she told Aldern to expect something special from the Sandpoint Theater the previous evening, she now must seem to be quite in the know to him. Plus, it's nice there will be something new to see. Second, Sidonia absolutely must make the acquaintance of Allishanda. Doing so will be so much easier here than in the city. So will making an impression on her.

Sidonia stifles a yawn.

Sidonia smiles to herself when she picks up on the replacement of old Kaijitsu by Cyrdakk. Cyrdakk will be far more entertaining.

The Prior Evening with Aldern:

As they ready to leave the White Deer, Sidonia suggests to Aldern the two of them go alone.

"Why don't you dismiss your people for the evening Lord Aldern? You won't be needing them, and where we're going it would be better if we don't stand out so much as an entourage would cause."

As they begin their stroll down to the Rusty Dragon, Sidonia slides her arm around through his so their arms are interlocked. She guides Aldern along the Church St - High St - Festival St - Market St route, pointing out places like shops or eateries Aldern might find useful. The place she makes a big deal about is the Sandpoint Theater.

"The quality of the performances there are well above what one might expect in a town like this. Cyrddak Drokkus, the proprietor, is well connected with the theater scene in Magnimar. He can even attract players and theatrical companies from the city here for short runs of current shows. It's impressive. While I haven't checked in very recently to see what is upcoming, there will surely be something of quality on offer during the Swallowtail Festival. It's too late this evening, but I can think of no better way to spend tomorrow evening."

As they draw near to the Rusty Dragon, Sidonia fills Aldarn in on the place a little to set expectations.

"The Rusty Dragon, you can see the large metal dragon sign just down there, is a bit rougher around the edges. But, it is much more lively than the White Deer, that place is far too sedate. Sleep at the White Deer, but come here for fun until you sleep, if you must give in to sleep."

"The proprietor is named Ameiko. It is her pet project. She is a Kaijitsu, one of the four leading families here, my own family is is another of the four. The mayor is a Deverin. The fourth is the Scarnetti's as you already know."

Sidomnia smirks as she brings up the Scarnetti's.

Inside, Sidonia makes sure to find them a small table where they have a good view of the place. She orders for them both, asking for two tankards of the Two Knights Raspberry Mead if it's available. It is a good way to show Aldern that she's listening to what he says, most everyone finds it flattering, and she sees no reason to think Aldern is any different. Besides, Sidonia is no in the habit of drinking mead, so trying it will ensure they have an extra thing to talk about.

"The reason this is the best place to come is its free-for-all atmosphere. Playing music, singing, storytelling, all such things are encouraged here. Ameiko has a genius for managing the rowdiness and chaos needed for patrons to join in the show themselves, while never letting things get truly out of control. Also, she plays the shamisen sometimes. Ameiko plays it well; it's an exotic sound, and quite beautiful."

Sidonia chatters quite a bit as she and Aldern drink and take in the night's proceedings. She does restrain herself from monopolizing the conversation though since doing so is generally a big turn-off.

At some point, Sidonia slides in the information that she has her own place nearby in town rather than staying with her relations out in the manor. She works it in at a point where it won't seem too loaded a thing to mention, like when she is engaged in an occasional mild complaint about the Sandpoint Valdemar's. Seeming bitter is also usually a turn-off.

If Adern doesn't seem to be biting at the bait she's been dangling when things are winding down for the night and it's time to go, Sidonia takes it in stride. She's maybe even a little impressed. While she would certainly wouldn't refuse a quick and easy victory, Sidonia has really been laying the groundwork for the next evening.

When they part ways outside the tavern, if they part ways, Sidonia mentions to Aldern that she will be caught up in having to spend some time with her family the next day.

"It's something official I think? Anyway, I don't know exactly where I'll be and when. Come find me, I might need to be rescued. I won't think you're a rogue for accepting a reward from me either. In fact, here is a down payment."

Sidonia rises up on her toes to reach, and gives Aldern a quick kiss on the lips.

Sidonia stands with her family, tired and thus a bit cranky, but not hung over.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

While Aldern isn't exactly a scintillating conversationalist in Sidonia's estimation, at least he doesn't drone on and on about property and taxes for long. On the positive side, he does seen game to play as well.

Hoping to put the business part of the conversation to rest, the only reply she offers to his true purpose in town is a Scarnetti remark since she is passingly familiar with the family by now.

"Scarnetti. When their name comes up it always seems to be associated with... friction."

"As for myself, I'm managing given the circumstances. I have been put to work by my oh so ergophilic relations at the shipyard, where I endlessly shuffle papers."

"The town does have it's charms. There just isn't very much of it. It could do with being considerably larger. Still, for a brief visit like yours, there are a few decent ways to fill the time."

"The first step must be improving upon the current surroundings. Are you lodging here at the White Deer? We're going on a little walk to better and brighter places."

your choice

Do you mean me? I just put in the two rolls because Sidonia is trying to do a couple of different things that might not work.

1. She doesn't want to seem desperate, so Sidonia is pretending she didn't know Foxglove was there. Making him extend the invitation without her having to explicitly or implicitly ask to me invited gets her where she wants to go with her dignity intact. So a Bluff.

2. She wants to make a good impression with Foxglove and get cozier with him. She wants to monopolize his attention. So Diplomacy.

If the rolls aren't needed you can just ignore them.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

Have Sidonia and Foxglove ever met in person before, or do they just know each other due to overlapping social circles, reputation and so forth?

Sidonia only shows any recognition of Foxglove's presence after he has started waving, as if that is what has brought him to her attention. She puts her face through the stages of only just now seeing him. First there is surprise mixed with some puzzlement, as if she doesn't recognize him. Next there is the light of memory coming on, with a recognition she does know who he is. Finally a smile, as she indicates she is happy to see him.

Calls for Deception I guess?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Sidonia follows Foxglove's wave over to his table. Although she is smiling she takes her time getting there, sauntering over at a relaxed pace.

"Well! Lord Aldern Foxglove I believe! How wonderful it is to see you all the way out here at the ends of the world."

"Thank you for inviting me to join you" she continues after taking the seat provided for her.

She offers Aldern a wry smile when he mentions the Magnimar troubles and affirms his guess in a cool, detached voice.

"Yes, you are correct. Sent to visit my relatives. I've been here for some months now. I believe the purpose of it all is for me to ingest a goodly helping of moral fiber, served with a generous side of traditional values."

Sidonia switches to a more familiar and teasing tone of voice as she continues speaking.

"You have come for the Swallowtail Festival? What tempted you enough to make the trek? The architecture, the religion, or the party?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Sidonia is delighted to see Foxglove, though she does not give that away. First she goes to the bar to order a brandy. If there's a seat open at the bar, she'll take it. Otherwise she stands.

Sidonia spends a few minutes looking about casually and sipping at her brandy. During this time she shifts position a little if needed to keep as open a line of sight between Foxglove and herself as she can manage given the crowd. In no case does she look directly at him, only out of the corner of her eye as necessary to keep tabs on him.

Lvl 1Rogue (Scoundrel)| Human (Versatile) | Female | Party Scholar | HP: 18/18 | AC 18 or 19 | F +4, R +9 W +5 | Perception +5 | Move 30

Once Sidonia is released from her drudgery in the shipyard office for the day, she retreats into the portion of the building she has taken over as a residence. It's far too early for going out, barely the end of the afternoon.

Sidonia settles in for a while, making her own dinner of a sliced up apple paired with some pieces of cheese. After eating, she makes herself a pot of tea and settles in with a book for a couple hours of reading.

As the sun begins to drop low in the sky, Sidonia puts away the book and gets washed up. It takes her a while to decide what to wear, but she eventually decides on a skirt of Varisian cloth, thin vertical stripes of many colors. She pairs the skirt with a plain white collared shirt and a short sleeveless black velvet doublet, generally following the male pattern for such an article, but sneakily incorporating pattern elements of bodices to make it less boxy and more form fitting.

Sidonia goes light on cosmetics, just a little reddening for her lips and a touch of kohl to accentuate her eyes. Before she leaves Sidonia adds low boots and a belt. She has never been a fan of dangly things so the dagger she takes along is held in a sheath that fits horizontally on the belt, resting across the small of her back.

By the time Sidonia is out the door, darkness is falling. She probably would have stayed in, there will be a lot going on the next day with the Swallowtail Festival, the cathedral, and such. But, considering how big an event tomorrow will be and how many visitors it's bringing to town, it's possible someone she knows from Magnimar might be in town. Sidonia is on the hunt for familiar faces, acquaintances or if she's lucky a friend.

Her first destination is the White Deer. It's not a place Sidonia would normally go. It's about as far away from home as possible, and not much fun. But she expects it will be filled up with out-of-towners. She makes it her first stop so she can do her recon and move on to better places as they really start to pick up. Next will be the Rusty Dragon after a stop by Cracktooth's. There are some other places, Risa's Place and the dingy dockside taverns but Sidonia doesn't figure they're worth her time, they attract niche patronage and don't have an inviting look from the street.

As she walks to the White Deer, Sidonia's pace is quick and efficient. She gracefully slips through or around pedestrians or knots of people in the street. She keeps her eyes peeled for people she might recognize though.

Sidonia- when you first go here, you stayed up in the manor, but it quickly was far too boring, so you moved to the shipyard holdings and moved into an office there, making it your home....so to speak. You help ...a little with paperwork involved. and generally are on good terms with your cousin Belvin (who is a little serious for your take) and Jhalevia The Harbormaster. Who's always chiding you on becoming more involved in the town, and to not look down on the folks here as you do.

Good deal she's out of that boring old house. That will save a bunch of trouble sneaking in and out. With great effort she could probably do a little paperwork without dying from it.

One thing I'll amend. Does Sidonia think everything I've written concerning her? You betcha. Does she say that stuff out loud? Nope. That's the difference between a 10 and a 16 charisma. She gets nothing out of putting people down. Besides, her superiority is so apparent she doesn't need to comment on it.

No no, she's a bridge builder, all honey, no vinegar. Unless she needs to turn the vinegar on for some specific reason. As far as Sandpoint residents in general are concerned, Sidonia's demeanor is pleasant, approachable, and friendly enough. She might complain here and there, or occasionally say something that she probably shouldn't have, but she can make time for people she doesn't care for much. After all, until her sentence to Sandpoint is over, all she has is time. Besides, good bahavior might shorten her sentence.

What she hasn't done so much is find or assemble a group she runs with. She's sort of non-aligned in town, a bit distant.

I would suggest you also take a look at the swashbuckler archetype. No spells like the bard archetype, but two of the swashbuckler styles (braggart or rascal) seem to fit your character concept, and the Wit swashbuckler style defintely does (and lets you gain panache when you use Bon Mot).

Swashbuckler Styles

Note: For ones who are not aware of it, once you have three archetype feats for the same archetype (including the dedication feat) you can take another dedication feat (which prevents you from taking a third dedication feat until you have three archetype feats from your second archetype).

As Rise/Doom is from levels 1 to 11, that means 5 free archetype slots, with the option to take another dedication feat at the 8th or 10th level free archetype feat slots. Not all archetypes have enough archetype feats to fill in all the free archetype slots.

I like the idea of Swashbuckler archetype. It makes for a seamless overall character concept in this case. From a glance at them Fencer or Wit seems the best fit.

The reason I haven't really been considering it is the doubling up on precision damage. It seems like an awful lot of eggs in one basket. For example, with 1st ed. I'd never combine Investigator and Rogue because both depend on precision damage, leaving you well-screwed when something is immune to precision damage. Plus there's the need to create the two separate sets of conditions to get the extra damage. Is this less of an issue in 2e?

@Barbie:

Sidonia recently turned 18. Sure, Taldan is fine. She does have an Ulfen side of the family, but Sidonia doesn't look Ulfen, dress Ulfen, or speak Ulfen. She's completely uninterested in Ulfen-ness. All the loudly braying at each other about feats of strength from behind their beards while guzzling giant containers of beer seems dreadfully loutish.

As for Bon Mot, is it a worse idea in 2e for there to be character overlap or some repetition compared to 1st ed.? As I understand it, Bon Mot is a single target feat. Why can't both Barbie and Sidonia have and use it? Targets of opportunity probably won't be scarce in plenty of fights. Or, one of us might be otherwise occupied at certain times and be unavailable for Bon Motting. It's really up to you. I certainly don't mind both characters having it.

2. Possibly connected to Thing 1, I haven't decided on an archetype for level 2. Mostly I'm looking at out of melee options like Bard, Sorcerer, Dandy, Captivator, or Celebrity(?). Again leaning more into non-combat development. This could be misguided? I was ready to consider knowledge oriented archetypes, but with an Investigator in the party it seems there's no need.

Investigators generally aren't good at Nature and Religion checks because they're WIS not INT based. This holds true for me.

Sidonia isn't going to be dazzling anyone with her wisdom either. I would probably be able to put points into them here and there but the results will definitely be lackluster.

I'm not angling for Marshal either.

On sidonia I notice you took nimble dodge and Shield block.

Both are reactions.

You can only do 1 reaction a turn.

So any 1 round you could only use 1 or the other...

Is that something you want to stay with?

And does your Rogue have Proficiency with a shield?

Well, I don't know about shield proficiency. It was my impression that Rogues could use bucklers, are they treated as different than shields? I looked at Rogue and it mentioned weapon and armor proficiencies, but did not mention shields. Then I looked at Fighter because surely they are. It listed weapon and armor proficiencies, but did not mention shields. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But, I guess having two reactions is not a great thing. So, I'll switch out Shield Block for Toughness.

There, that's better.
