Yeah, Shimsil's high ego was essentially due largely to the entire character wealth going into him.

Everything that boosted mental scores, which are common for PCs to buy, boosted his ego. Boosts to his enchantment level also applied to ego. Plus each spell like ability went to ego too, if i remember correctly.

So it is highly unlikely that something like Shimsil would be the result of someone in this game, because at that point the character holding the weapon basically becomes a prop. They'd have to wealth or other items of their own.

Base GP Value: 50315

GM, any yea nor nay on the Thunderscape classes? if you are unfamiliar i can provide you the info

Diamond (CR +2) Soulbolt 7 (HP: 151/81; AC 16*; Fort 7 - Ref 10 - Will 10; Perception +15)

I will follow this for now and look into jumping in when i get more time. Definitely not leaving the game though.

Looking strongly towards some Thunderscape class, if possible. It'll give some flavor to the party that we don't currently have... "biomechanical" but not terribly advanced (not a perfect cyborg or anything).

Diamond (CR +2) Soulbolt 7 (HP: 151/81; AC 16*; Fort 7 - Ref 10 - Will 10; Perception +15)

hah that would be fine with me.

Diamond (CR +2) Soulbolt 7 (HP: 151/81; AC 16*; Fort 7 - Ref 10 - Will 10; Perception +15)

still around, although i've lost interest in this character and dont have time to make a new one.

i will still play this one, perhaps by the time you get a full party i might have time to make one.

His argent out of helpful spells for today, Shimsil shoots psionic energy about, taking what few bugs he can.

atk: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
dmg: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

atk: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
dmg: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Diamond (CR +2) Soulbolt 7 (HP: 151/81; AC 16*; Fort 7 - Ref 10 - Will 10; Perception +15)

Shimsil, who was being carried, worried not about this mud. Let's see how his servant fares...

REF vs DC 18: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Shimsil, having little to fear from swarms but likewise being nearly useless against them, does nothing overt. He urges his drow servant to attack, however.

The Drow Arcane Argent takes her free hand, intones some minor words that anyone who has fought a wizard knows, and casts burning hands into the hole nearest her that the swarms are coming out of.

fire, DC 13 REF halves: 5d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 2, 2) = 10

(mostly trying to funnel the whole fire into that hole for best effect.)

in an old 3.5 game i had another character walk around with essentially a sandwich board on, and each side was a flip chart of the various symbols. quick disguise spell has him looking like a scantily-clad maiden, walk through enemy lines as the symbols go off and he flips the pages.

i forget which symbols we used precisely, but it was amusing.

drow sergeant dungeoneering: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 vs DC 20

"This cuts all the way down to the vaults of Orv. This isn't a main chamber, but some sort of ancillary wacky space. maybe some wild magic around."

Shimsil looks out over the edge, up and down the chasm. He isn't concerned with gugs, that is more of a meatbag problem. He just looks at the architecture, marveling at the expanse of such an old structure and the ruin it became.

<<All this, with a city overhead.>>

Diamond (CR +2) Soulbolt 7 (HP: 151/81; AC 16*; Fort 7 - Ref 10 - Will 10; Perception +15)

Shimsil fires upon the ones in the doorway, figuring they are the most defenseless while simultaneously the nearest threat..

1d10 + 2 + 5 + 2 + 2d8 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 5 + 2 + (7, 7) = 31

or is that an old 3.5-ism that didn't get brought in to pathfinder?

The drow Sergeant will cast Scorching Ray on the bebilith and imbue Shimsil with her arcana, granting him an additional +2 bonus. (Targeting the bebilith, but might also burn webs hopefully.)

scorching ray: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 ranged touch
fire: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 2) = 11

scorching ray: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 ranged touch
fire: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 3) = 12

Shimsil then lashes out, shooting a ghostly spinning blade at the beast before refocusing his energies.

Shimsil attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18
slashing: 1d10 + 2 + 5 + 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 5 + (7, 3) + 2 = 20

did those guards leave when i dismissed them? not that i plan on actually taking all the shields, just wondering, since their sergeant did dismiss them.

Shimsil will telepathically share the information from his above spoiler with the group, figuring by now he has had time to make sense of it.

Diamond (CR +2) Soulbolt 7 (HP: 151/81; AC 16*; Fort 7 - Ref 10 - Will 10; Perception +15)

yeah, i've played an inanimate object before so i anticipated it, although never in this medium.

i considered snagging one of the guards, but i figured it would be kinda hokey. i suppose if the head honcho guard lady picked it up, itd be one thing, but if a minion guard snagged the sword and was, shortly thereafter, all like "yeah i am gonna hang out with these guys a bit" it would strike as a bit off. odd enough as to why they'd pick up a sword someone else dropped.

Diamond (CR +2) Soulbolt 7 (HP: 151/81; AC 16*; Fort 7 - Ref 10 - Will 10; Perception +15)

part of it for me is that i am not contributing very much, as i am a held object. this doesn't bother me at all, just saying that is one player that isn't saying much. that will change in the future when i get REAL telepathy, as opposed to my current setup which has me with a telepathic link to my wielder only. aside from that one person, i must communicate by actual spoken voice.

so, especially in times like this with "others" around, i must remain silent. likewise, i'm not shooting anyone or anything.

That game ended when my character had created a town up in the cold top of a mountain, and the GM had allowed an adamantine mine to fall into the hands of a character with several thousand HD of free labor (me) and my character was making ridiculous sums of money.

The DM had attacked me with several epic forces, including a united attack by five of the great nations. In retaliation, i took over the floating war platform that used to patrol breland, and launched a campaign that destroyed khorvaire.

all of khorvaire except a pillar of silver flame, which the GM ruled that i didnt have the power to destroy. So i build a tower around it to block it from the eyes of all. (perfect place to start an all-undead campaign, haha!)

yeah i had a 3.5 dread necromancer, my longest lasting character. started out LN at lv3, ended up LE with an ECL somewhere in the mid-30s. Also crafted the party's descent into evil, except one character.

Started out Necropolitan, worked his way to demilich.

My favorite part was that we had this artificer in the party that was staunchly neutral. we were going into Xendrik, and the Emerald Claw was after the same artifact that we were. We made it to the ruins that housed the artifact thanks to the sweet ride i had crafted.

sweet ride:

sweet ride was a huge-sized skeletal monstrous scorpion, that had a rather ornate carriage (wheels removed) bolted to the back. We had captured the carriage from some vampire 10 levels prior. it had some magical trunks of storage in it too.

Well, we arrived and the Emerald Claw was already inside, and they had some guards in a skiff floating in midair. The artificer, hungry for magic, had already started in on opening the door to the ruins they had sealed magically. He left us to deal with the Claw, and only myself, the artificer, and the wizard could even fly. So my character (flight already active) in the first round flies up and paralyzes the Claw members on the skiff with a fear spell. I used my ring of telekinesis to grab one of them and throw them off the skiff, and at that point the artificer (who seemed to think he was now some sort of paladin) yelled "STOP!" at my character. My character, being the ego-filled bastard that he was, didn't take well to being commanded by his lessers. I used my ring of telekinesis to just flip the skiff mid-air, flinging all the passengers to the ground.

The artificer didnt like that, and flew at the necromancer like a rocket. My character was many things, but a melee combatant he was not.

sidebar: artificer:

the DM had a poor understanding of item creation rules, a trust that players followed them, and was very generous with wealth. the artificer had a great deal more items than he should have, even by the generous standards of our GM.

this same artificer, suddenly a paragon of justice, had also made a Rod of Undead Mastery for my character some time earlier. this came up in a talk about character motivations after this combat.

In one round, the artificer had taken the necromancer down below half HP. This set off a contingent spell he had crafted, rendering him invisible and dimension-dooring him away. It also summoned some wraiths to attack the artificer, but he was warforged and had many magical protections so these were absolutely useless against him. He commanded his undead to flee from the party and he did much the same.

The DM said that he would give my character two weeks in game to sort things out with the party, or i'd have to retire my character.

The necromancer (who had long since eschewed a name in paranoia) returned to Stormreach, and bribed the guy managing the incoming and outgoing ships and airships to bar passage to the party for two weeks. He then took an airship back to Karnnath.

why Karnnath?:

Several adventures ago, the necromancer had gained some karnnathi zombies (intelligent) as minions, and he had set these about plundering trade routes and burying the goods, which he now un-buried and sold in order to buy a very expensive gem, a bag of holding, and a portable hole. oh and a scroll of Trap the Soul (awesome spell). For Trap the Soul, he had the very expensive gem and had the artificer's name carved into a gold coin.

With his added wealth and subsequent purchases (see spoiler above), he booked passage to Sharn where he contacted the person whom chartered their original voyage to Xendrik. He had said quest-giver write up a note to the party thanking them for completing the quest (he had been scying on them and knew that they had completed the task and were waiting in Stormreach for passage to be available), directing them to meet in Sharn, and took that note and teleported to Stormreach after disguising himself.

He then booked passage for the PCs, directing that each PC be given a their own specific and separate luxury room. In the artificer's room, he placed a bag of gold (with the special coin inside) along with the note that he had painstakingly gotten the quest-giver to write because he was inept at forgery. He then contacted the man he had bribed prior to offer the PCs passage.
Meanwhile, just on the other side of the wall from the bag of gold, he had an undead minion just waiting to throw a bag of holding into a portable hole in case the artificer didn't take the gold (thus completing the Trap the Soul spell).
The artificer just walked in, saw the gold, and grabbed it before even reading the note (so a lot of extra effort wasted on my necromancer's part).
His body shriveled up, leaving his soul in a gem and all his embedded components fell to the ground like a cracked-open loot pinata.

My necromancer then called a party meeting in the galley while in disguise and then did a theatrical reveal, to much party amusement.

except the artificer that crossed me. that guy never played with us again.
