In Super Smash Bros(Brawl? Melee?) Lucario can jump into the air and shoot a huge beam from his paws(He's a Super Saiyan!). This could be simulated by use of the Flight and Breath Weapon Evolutions.
You could also start him off as Small size and have a Riolu at the beginning!
So, there's this game series, video games. Started back in Japan back in 1996 or thereabouts. It got huge, then got ported over the US, where it also became huge, and though the franchise's non video game merchandise became less widespread in the face of more recent offerings, the game series continues today, and faces its 15th anniversary next year (if my facts are correct.) Its impact during its heyday was sufficient that it remains, indelibly stained in the pop culture memory despite its childish scope (the anime was the primary reason behind that shift from its original adolescent target audience).
It's game about catching monsters, originally 151, now up to 493 species. It's Pokemon, and it's a scourge I will unleash on my gaming group, one summoner PC at a time.
Scyther, Slash! bwahahahaha!!!!
*explodes from the evil he just unleashed* worth it!
"I haven't seen this many strange letters since I placed an ad in the personals!" -James, Pokémon 3
Ash: "Wow, imagine Brock, married!"
Misty: "You and I will be married someday, too."
Ash: "Mmm-hmm...... WHAAAA?!!?"
"Do you want to find out what 'or else' means?" --Giovanni
"Fruit doesn't grow on trees, you know!" - James
"No, Ash, things will not work out if you try hard enough! The Pokemon trainer's judgement is more important than anything else, and unfortunately for you, the trainer needs to have a brain!" -Misty
Ash: "Huh? I don't see a beautiful girl."
Misty: "Why don't you just turn around?"
Ash: "Misty, please. Only one of us can hallucinate at a time."
I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that makes you who you are. - Mewtwo, The First Movie.
Misty- This isn't funny I look like a cartoon!
Ash- A cartoon?! Like that would ever happen!
Jessie: Do you think I'm blind?
James: That would explain the hair.
"Sirens."
"That's never good."
James and Jessie, respectively
James: We're doing the hoing....
Meowth: But they'll be doing the heaving!
Almost all of our Chosen Ones come back alive!-Girl from Pokemon 2000

Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice, and lightning;
lest these titans wreak havoc upon the world in which they clash.
Though the water's great guardian shall arise to quell the fighting,

Officer Jenny: Just sit back, hold on, and don't yell!"
"It always pays to have protection!..."-Team Rocket
Meowth: "If we start looking at what's the same instead of looking at what's different. Well who knows?"
team rocket quotes:
"It pays to have protection!"

"It just didn't seem right to take it from behind!"
"Sceptile's shooting bla-aanks~!"
"I love a hard rod and good tackle!"
"I am not a piece of fruit, no matter what anyone says."
"to protect us from all that chafing and itching!"
"It might finally stop all of Jesse's... complaining!"
Team Rocket: Give me the bird! Give me the bird!
Brock: I would, but this is a children's show.
Play a Summoner. Almost any bipedal, quadraped(including Bug types), or serpentine pokemon can be made with the eidolon. So can Digimon for that matter.
For me, the change to the summon monster ability evoked some sad feelings, but I can get over it. I still think it should be a 1/min per level summon, but I guess that's just one more among a myriad of votes towards that way. Either way, I can't wait to see a finalized version of the class.
Also, I want to know if anyone else had the same idea when they saw the class, or if I'm just too young and weird (20) in comparison with the rest of the boards. I saw how customizable the Eidolon was, and immediately thought of a campaign where every player was a summoner and the whole world was based on a pokemon/digimon theme. Forgive me for how corny that sounds, but at the time (4am) it seemed like the idea had some merit.
Competition: To be a Summoning Master
Competitors: Summoner vs. Wizard/Sorcerer, Bard, Cleric, Druid
Summoner: gets an Eidolon, summoning spells, and SLAs, gets Summon Monster - at lower levels
Wizard/Sorcerer: gets abilities from schools/bloodlines, gets more spells, no SLAs, can get a Summoner Scribed Scroll and add the "unusual spell" to their spells known. More/better(?) offensive spells.
Bard: gets Bardic Music, more spells(?), minor healing, plenty of buffs
Cleric: Gets Channel Energy, buffs, medium BAB and armor prof, major healing
Druid: gets animal companion, medium BAB and armor prof, wildshape(better to fight alongside the summons), moderate healer
There are already classes that have a side kick but the focus remains on the pc. What is wrong with a 'pokemon master' existing? If you dont want to play a class that focuses on its pet, you have a host of other choices already. Why badmouth something that clearly other players are excited about.
But I'm just not sure what the summoner's role is. The Eidolon wades into combat/kicks butt. Summoned creature(probably a given for most combats) attacks too. But what does the summoner himself do while this is going on?
Pokemon masters rarely entered combat unless they had to save their pokemon ^_^
"I looked for mosted of last night, but I couldn't find him anywhere. Whirl and Aurora are still searching from the air, but the smoke isn't good for them, and they can't do much. I hope he hasn't meet with too many of the animals, I don't beleive they will be friendly toward him right now."
While the Grove itself is basically healthy signs of the damage in the outer areas have intruded.

"Well, you did say you'd rather be busy. And it looks like we can be of use here."
A mist flows toward them, growing denser and becoming Rion just a few feet away.
"It was a lot worse. But the Grove seems to be fighting back, and E7, my dad, and myself are working as hard as we can to help it win this fight. Success is is inevitable now that you to are here."
He looks around.
"On a unrelated note, do you know where Aidan is? He asked us if we'd handle the fires from the air while he helped the animals, and we haven't seen him since."
I like the pink skulls, although the top is a little snug.

"Aw crap. Cleanup on Row 5! Acme, where are you?" as Devlyn picks up the unconscious Rio and plops him in a chair. Making sure that he's just out cold, he heads back over to the bar.
I knew someone would notice that post sooner or later. Porting out now.
Serafina has been sitting quietly for days. She eats occasionally, and once in a while she strips down to her shift and goes swimming. After a week or so of thought she is suddenly struck by something. She screams and doubles over, collapsing on the mossy earth.
Rio rushes over, alarm showing on his face.
"Serafina, what happened?"
He begins to fumble with his belt pouch to get to the potion he kept for emergencies.
The omniportal flashes and Serafina and Rio emerge. Serafina finds a spot under a willow and sits down, tossing stones across the large pool of water.
"Don't be so down, Serafina. It wasn't that bad. Not everyone is going to believe you were in control of your actions. I apoligize in advance if I do something stupid and drastic, though."
Serafina's still here, but I have not been. Lots of junk going on in RL Db3, apologies.
Serafina sits on a beach chair, despondent. The laughs and cries of the folks staying at the temple resort seem to have no effect on her
Rio sits next to her, holding her hand.
"It's not going to be easy. But there are others who know you were not yourself, and will stand with us to convinve those who don't. My dad let you prove that you were willing to set things right, didn't he? That alone will carry much weight. I will always side with you, and fight hard till everyone understands."
Stay out of my way and out of my life, Innocent Blood. Come near me again and I wont be as pleasant ..
Alaina hops in the omniportal and flashes away
To no one in particular,
"Threaten her again and I won't pleasent. I can't believe I was friends with her."
Turning to Searfina,
"Want to go back to the cave? Or do you want to talk to Sunny G before we go?"
Nicely done Pat, I didn't really think this was going to be a "Oh I'm so sorry", "Oh I forgive you!" kind of thing anyway. Hm... Rio vs. Alaina. There is definetly a difference in power, since Sunny G is on Alain's side, but Rio has six pokemon who have been taught to fight in tandem... Could be interesting.
Aurora lands just outside the temple's entrance, and Rio hops off to help Serafina down as well. He then opens the door for her and they enter the Sanctum together.
"Well, Aurora does need the exercise. It won't be as fast as the omniportal, but a lot of people don't regret it."
Walking out of the cave, Rio tosses a silver-blue ball into the air, and Aurora appears in a flash of light. He gets on and offers a hand to help Serafina up.
I need a place with a lot of quiet and somewhere I can think and get my mind together. Rio, thank you for staying with me, but I just want you to know you don't have to if you don't want to.
He shrugs and smiles at her.
"I like you. Most people would call me crazy for that, but today, in this world, who isn't? I just wish you could go with me to see Arceus. We can stay here, but we should try to stay out of the cave whenever we can, the daylight does us good. It is from which most life grows, what keeps you warm, and things can become clearer in sunlight than in shadows."
Serafina flashes back to the warded area, hoping that Rio is still in residence
*Relieved she is okay, he greets her warmly. He can't help but wonder where she has been. He doesn't ask though, afraid to push her until he is sure she isn't still sad over what Innocent Blood did.*
Later, Rio sits next to Serafina.
"Um.. I think we should go somewhere else, this isn't exactly the best place for an extended stay. Is there anywhaere you'd be comfortable?"
Serafina flashes back to the warded area, hoping that Rio is still in residence
