![]() GM wrote: @Malachi: Does your familiar have Speak with Master? (I'm not sure the details of your familiar--i.e., if it can talk back to you or only has an empathic link). Polly does not have Speak with Master. She's a hawk emissary familiar, and Malachi only has 4 levels in classes advancing his familiar (Druid). Whether or not she understands Common (with INT 7 and 8 ranks in Linguistics) is moot since a familiar is under its player's control. Polly could signal that she's found what she's looking for by circling the mast and conveying excitement or another positive emotion through her empathic link. FWIW my view is that familiars can understand spoken languages, even before they gain Speak with Master. The Decoy familiar archetype gains an ability (replacing Speak with Master and Speak with Animals) to "speak any of its master's languages", there's no mention of "understanding", which would be needed were the default that familiars have no understanding. In any event, Kit is right about the plot ;) And The Rock can fly and see stuff too. ![]()

![]() If Malachi does not put White to sleep, then Polly goes for him. Otherwise, Polly remains out of reach, fluttering about the rafters. Polly swoops down from above, and tries to grab the amulet from the disarm/steal manoeuvre: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Polly will provoke an AoO for entering White's square, and another for attempting a combat manoeuvre without the Improved feat for it - however I don't think White is visibly armed so he might not be able to take it. I've put a Polly token on the map, on top of White. If Mal's arrow does put White to sleep, Polly will fly over the sleeping sailor to attempt to prevent anyone waking him or taking the amulet. ![]()

![]() Polly is a sometimes-participant in combat. She mainly spams Guidance. Once per day she can let one character roll twice for initiative and take the best roll. Assume she'll do that for our bard when we face any sort of "boss fight". ![]()

![]() Not to be outdone in the way of unusual companions, the Captain is joined by a brightly-plumed raptor that alights on his shoulder. "Caw!" "Eh, and this is Polly" the Captain explains. "She is a very rare parrot-hawk, yes." For some reason a Besmaran ranger can have a parrot familiar, but a Besmaran druid cannot. ![]()

![]() "Caw!" Polly flies into Nayeli's face, and goes for the whistle. Movement provokes an AoO if she has combat reflexes, as Polly is Tiny and has reach 0. disarm/steal combat manoeuvre vs Nayeli (take whistle): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Manoeuvre also provokes an AoO if Nayeli has combat reflexes. ![]()

![]() "Squawk!" Polly flies off Malachi's shoulder and flies about the room, before landing on a candlestick on the table. She eyes the servants suspiciously. ![]() Polly helps Malachi Auto-aid perception check. Polly cannot talk, but has INT 7 and the usual familiar empathic link with Malachi. Plus she can squawk ;) Somewhat bizarrely, a Besmaran cleric or ranger can obtain a Parrot familiar but a Besmaran druid cannot. ![]()
