Our first adventure path continues! One thing that makes Everglow (Ponyfinder's campaign setting) different from many others is that our adventures and literature are all over the place, chronologically. This one takes place right around the founding of the empire. We have others set during the height and working on something something set after it all comes tumbling down.

Do you have a favorite time period?

I hope this is allowable for this section of the forums, but here I am, creator of Ponyfinder, who has made the first book of his own adventure path, and he wants it tested, preferably by someone who is not himself so I can get a full measure of how it plays out from fresh eyes.

Any takers? You'd get a copy of the AP (both in its super-rough state and after polishing and if it gets printed, you get that too) and get playtest credit within the book. All I need is for you to gather some players and run the first book and tell me how it turns out.

Interested?

Give a poke! Here or david@ponyfinder.net

We got a nice collection of eager volunteers, thanks!

Our first 20 level base class! We look forward to hearing what people think of it and what interesting times are had with it. Though flavored strongly for Everglow, it can work in other settings just fine. It's not like some other worlds that start with G or F don't ever intersect with other planes.

It just seems like the right thing to do.

We have a stable of fine books now available here right on Paizo.com.

Tribes of Everglow, indepth lore of the tribes of ponies that inhabit Everglow, including the previously unmentioned but entirely un-statted Tribe of Bones.

Forgotten Past, discovering what came before the ponies, and what marks they've left behind, to say nothing of new options for players and GMs alike!

Princess Luminace's Guide to the Pony Pantheon, learn more about the divine presences that watch over ponykind, for good or ill. We also cover the luminous dragons and pony satyrs as player options!

Griffons of Everglow, while dwarves rule the undermountains, the griffons control the space above. Looking down at the ponykind, they have a history all their own.

I am getting tired of evil unicorns, when are going to see evil pegasi and earth ponies.

Much like non casters in pathfinder they seem to be a bit underpowered in ponyfinder. As important as it is to a society to be able to grow food, it just doesn't rate as a CR for an evil villain.

Hey now, Ponyfinder gives plenty to earth ponies, and our iconic wizard is an earth pony, though our most popular one is the earth pony fighter, go fig!

Not to say we don't have other ponies too. Our paladin is a unicorn, and a druid pegasus for optimal weather control.

I'd like to see someone start a Ponyfinder game in the Play by Post section. (I think it still counts as ridiculous even if there's been a published book for it.) I'd love to revisit the idea I had for a human who'd been pony-raised. (I also just love the Everglow setting in general.)
I'd be up for a Ponyfinder game, but only if it did away with humans and anything that too closely resembles a human in appearance: I feel like they make a setting less ridiculous just by existing.

Have a trait we're adding to our newest book:

Man Among Ponies (Cultural, must be humanoid): You have learned how to navigate among the four-legged with time and patience. You enjoy a +1 trait to diplomacy and knowledge (nobility) and one becomes a class skill.

In order for d20pfsrd.com to list the OGL content from any given 3PP, that publisher has to submit his material to one of the content writers of that site. The various samurai and Japanese archetypes, feats, traits, races, monsters, spells and magic items from the Kaidan setting of Japanese horror (PFRPG), my published homebrew under Rite Publishing, I submitted to one of the d20pfsrd writers and now that is available there.

They won't arbitrarily include any 3PP content, without the publishers giving it to them. So maybe make a suggestion to Ponyfinder publishers to do that.

We're quite happy to announce that Ponyfinder is coming to d20pfsrd rules!

The mechanics of Ponyfinder are OGL, just not the specific stuff like places, gods, and such, much like Pathfinder itself is with Golarion specific things.

There's always the Ponyfinder campaign setting. If you're not set on Golarion, anyway. Griffons of Everglow expands the campaign setting further. There's also a series of small racial books available that are about to be compiled into Tribes of Everglow.

The entire premise of the setting is to play sapient magical ponies, griffons, winged cats, and more. The default humanoid races exist, but they are not the main focus.

(This setting existing is the major reason I got into Pathfinder.)

I've played Ponyfinder in Golarion several times without much issue. The First World is a mysterious place, and disgorging another fey creature, which ponies are, is hardly impossible.

My Little Satire: The players create horrible, destructive for it's own sake, beings that have finally cracked an opening into arrogant reality. Unfortunately, they have also opened up an insipid world of cute, happy, friendly creatures. The ponies, bears, and other brightly colored creatures can project positive emotions that burn the horrors in subtle ways. Too much exposure can turn them into something more like Mr Rodgers. The campaign can end with the horrors trying to attack the cartoon studios generating the things.

Another gaming group creates a party of Ponyfinder characters and Cuddly Bears.

Cuddly Bears... Next expansion? Maybe...

Wish I could justify the amount needed to go for Murrage Notable. I have a Purrsian sorceress who'd probably be perfect. (Admittedly, her game died before it really went anywhere. She was going to eventually grab the racial feat to improve her flight.) I probably will eventually add-on to get a print copy of Tribes of Everglow.

I also really want to rebuild Shining Amethyst, my gem pony paladin of Luminace. She was all kinds of adorable awkward. (Imagine, the slightly nerdy and shy paladin of the goddess of magic, friendship and knowledge.) I planned for her to grow out of the shyness as she leveled, but she was going to remain a nerd.

I have so many other ideas... if only I could find games to play them in.

We'd love to have you, and others, aboard. Our front cover just flew out, but we have the back cover and many other great tiers waiting to go. Many are being snatched up, so now is the time to act.

Purrsians are as often biped as quadraped, and pawed rather than hooved. Not much you have to give specific to that race, seeing as they use the stuff normal adventurers like. It depends on the focus of that sorcerer, for one.

It is time! Get yourself to http://griffon.ponyfinder.net/ and pledge to secure your copy of the upcoming griffon expansion to Ponyfinder! The upper tiers are in limited supply, so if you want your griffon in the book and to have greater say in how it shapes up, now is the time to act!

Sorry for any confusion about that. The original Ponyfinder book was officially retired, being out of date, poorly formatted, and in all ways superseded by the campaign setting.

If you purchased the book from paizo.com, amazon.com, or any other site other than DrivethruRPG, shoot an email of the receipt to dms.silver@gmail.com for a $5 off coupon towards the campaign setting(Which is like getting your money back from the race book!).

People who grabbed it on DrivethruRPG already received this offer.

As for Griffons, yep, they are next! As soon as we complete fulfillment of the campaign setting Kickstarter, more information will be forthcoming.

There is a lot of not-playtesting going on in this playtesting thread. The devs are relying on us to actually test these rules. Save judgements for yourself, put it aside a moment, and just play, see how it tumbles out, and report.

Be a good pathfinder. Theorycrafting is not helpful to them.

It's nice to hear such good feedback. We're hard at work on the full campaign guide, scheduled to come out in December.

Ah, found it:

Quote:

Some feats have prerequisites. Your character must have the indicated ability score, class feature, feat, skill, base attack bonus, or other quality designated in order to select or use that feat. A character can gain a feat at the same level at which he gains the prerequisite.

A character can't use a feat if he loses a prerequisite, but he does not lose the feat itself. If, at a later time, he regains the lost prerequisite, he immediately regains full use of the feat that prerequisite enables.

It doesn't say you need to have it permanently. Since you would have improved unarmed strike, you would qualify to nab things that require it, but said things would only work while you have improved unarmed strike, turn off when you don't, and turn back on automatically when you do.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Alas, I play PFS. The 24 hr thing is only for attributes to become permanent, I thought?

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

I seem to recall that if you can have an ability sometimes, that's good enough to get a feat, but the feat is only active while you qualify.

For specific example, you take the brawler rage power, which makes it so you have improved unarmed strike while raging. Could you then take improved grapple(which would only work while raging)?

Because you already have the CR of the owner. If they listed it seperately, you'd add them together to calculate total CR, which would be wrong. For the purpose of the CR of the encounter, it's just the owner's CR, which includes the companion as part of that calculation.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

The CR of an animal companion is the CR of its master. They are considered one unit.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

I'll toss my hat in here for loving clarification.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

This is... incorrect. Heck, there's an evolution to give your eidolon permanent fast healing. Fast healing works on everything.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

I would say no, for Jay's reason. Feytharn, hands are not natural attacks. Claws might be, if you have them.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Do we, at some point, get an email or similar with instructions after signing up?

Grand Lodge

Relevant portion of text, under Advanced Horn Magic: Items, weapons, and shields worn or wielded this way must remain in, or be immediately pulled to, the same square the pony occupies, or cannot be used. Beyond this personal space, the unicorn cannot perform the precise motions required.

The power to engage in melee at a distance would be too powerful to allow in such an easy to obtain and unlimited fashion. Good enough that you can make an intelligence based fighter that can cleave things in twain, with their mind.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

The sword remains in -your- square when wielded as a weapon. You can float it over to someone, but when outside your square, it's just being held, not wielded.

As for a unicorn fighter, well, you have 3 feats(1st, fighter, bonus for being a pony), and, even then, you can still wield something in maw until you have all you need. Some pony feats are combat feats, take note! When it's a move action, you can single attack, when you make it extended, it's not a concentration duration anymore, so you're free FREEEE.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

With dragon disciple, you get a bite that specifically does str 1+1/2 damage. Does this override the general rule of natural weapons, aka, if you attack with a sword, then dragon disciple bite, is it still 1+1/2, or is it 1/2? It'd be -5 to hit either way, as nothing speaks otherwise.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Doesn't rake only work if you start the ground grappling and succeed in keeping it?

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Wouldn't be much of an alchemist then though.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Two weapon fighting has verbiage that overrides things. Offhand attacks are at 1/2 strength, and being a very not light weapon, you're looking at hefty accuracy penalties to both lances. Not an ideal tactic.

Why does everyone(Ok, three posts now) seem to treat the animal companion table as some sacred and undecipherable tome? It's not, it's the perfectly standard progression of a critter with the animal type, by and large.

Check it out, look at the animal type, compare to the BaB, Saves, Skills, and Feats given on the chart. The chart is there for convenience(And the bonus tricks and str/dex boosting). Even the parts that aren't directly animal template related(bonus tricks, str/dex boosting) are cyclic(+1 per 3 levels to str/dex, one higher for tricks, +2 per 3 for natural armor).

Building a level 21 animal companion is pretty easy. Should you? That's another question.
