Following behind, Maester Lucen uses a minor spell to conjure a light to allow him to see in the darkness.

Lucen watches the halfling almost fall off his perch before the Druid gives him a helpful push to get to the top of the cliff.

"Well done! I am not too practiced in climbing, so I will wait until the rest of you have gone, then maybe get some help getting to the top?"

The man seems a little embarrassed by the admission of his inability to climb and of needing help.

"Or, perhaps it is a young drake, not yet grown to the huge proportions stories tell us."

The Maester ponders the possible of what Brother Gaelin suggested.

Still concerned for the old woman's safety, Lucen stops and almost blurts out a laugh at seeing this very 'unconventional' adventurer standing in the street with his shield and axe.

"Oh, my!" he is able to get out without descending into outright laughter.

After his short explanation of the cantrip, and seeing that the others are leaving, he thanks Gwynn for the tea and tells her to keep training with the cantrip and perhaps she will be able to make a flame.

Rushing from the home he catches up with the others.

Once the others have finished their talking to the old woman, Lucen walks over to her.

"Ok, now this is one of the very first spells I was able to manifest when I was just starting to learn about my powers. For me, I just start to imagine a small fire in my mind, then I make it hotter and hotter until..."

He continues to talk to Gwynn and tells her about the cantrip and attempts to walker her through the process.

Not sure if I need to roll anything or not to teach?!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Lucen looks about the old woman's and is not surprised to see her using a cantrip to light her stove to warm the tea.

"As you are staying out here on your own, perhaps I could teach you a small cantrip that might help protect you and your home. It produces a bolt of flame that you can target at intruders. It is not too powerful but might dissuade unwanted guests."

Another bolt of fire flies from the Maester's hand towards the retreating manticore.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 3

Lucen once again calls upon his magical skills and fires another bolt of fire at the beast.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 2

initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

In response to the creature attempting to break into the old mill, Maester Lucen fires a bolt of fire at the creature.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 10

Lucen follows the others out of the tavern on the heels of the dwarf. As they reach the Townmaster's home, he again takes a look at the notices on the board as they wait for the door to be answered.

"Aye, it is a dragon that has been spotted in the sky. I have not seen it personally, but many have and it has all the locals spooked. I would like to join you as well, if you do not mind. Siting her is quite boring and expensive..."

Lucen nods towards the flamboyantly dresses publician and smiles at the discomfort of Scramsax.

"It is nice to meet you again. I have been here a few days...still looking for employment, but now with these new adventurers in town, I may have a new calling!"

Lucen joins the man and woman at the bar.

"Let me first say that I am not a local of this...this..umm..place. I was travelling looking for a new patron when we stopped at this..town. I have been waiting for a week now for another caravan to join, but if you are looking for a scholar..well I am your man."

Glancing over at the halfling with a look of exasperation, Lucen speaks up.
"I think he has had more than enough for tonight... that is unless you want to clean his sick from the floor again!"

Having arrived at the tavern much earlier, Lucen watches as the others arrive. Standing out from the normal clientele, the out of work scholar pay them particular attention and perks up as the talk suddenly turns to employment.

Well now, this could be a group that would benefit from my knowledge. Big and strong warriors...yes this might just be something I could join!" he thinks to himself. Pushing himself up and out of the chair situated in the dark corner, he moves towards the two warriors.

"Well met and good fortune to you. I am Maester Lucen, scholar and tutor to the nobility. I could not help but hear you are looking for some sort of adventure...perhaps you might find yourselves in need of my abilities?"

He gives the woman and man a winning smile as he awaits their response.

Woot!! Thanks for picking me. I look forward to playing with everyone!!

Ok..here are the basics of my crunch for my submission. This is Daniel, btw...lol

Thanks guys!! If Work lets up I might come back...but I will try to keep up on some of the writings....just did not have the time to keep up.....

Knowledge: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 6) = 22

I relay all I know to about the houses to both men.

I agree with Story...enjoying the game, just need to adjust to the number of posts...lol

Lucen will search his memory for any information on House Bracken.

Knowledge: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 4, 6) = 21

DM:

Maester Lucen approaches the Maester of House Swann to politely broach the topic of a union between the two houses.

work has slowed me down a bit, but still here

DM:

I will look at House Swann first, as a possible connection

Knowledge: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 3, 4) = 18

Maester Lucen once again schools the young lord in the most common house symbols, including House Tully

Awareness: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 2) = 12

DM:

I will make a note of all the houses that show approval or disdain. I also pass on the information about available maid to Darne.

Lucen will stay behind and see what the people have to say about his Houses actions.

Knowledge Roll (for notable people): 6d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 2, 1, 3) = 13

Knowledge Roll (for names of maidens): 5d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 2, 3) = 16

Also if it was not too late, Maester Lucen would take a shot at looking at the wheel, perhaps further enhancing Ophelia's roll?

Cunning: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 1) = 13

Wow..taking me some time to catch up...and missing some of the adventure as well...darn having to work!! lol

Maester Lucen smiles at the young lord and says, "You father has already confided in me that he hopes you find a suitable bride at this tourney, and I have made up a list of the most eligible and well ranked daughters."

Not sure if I really needed to roll against his attempt, as I figured the lord had already spoken to me about this, and I would have already made note of who was here and if they had eligible daughters...or I could roll...

The Maester visits the camps of his House's allies, speaking with their Maesters as he brings greetings from his own lord. He nods and smiles to the many knights he passes, addressing them by their proper house.

Knowledge: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 2, 4) = 18

As he watches the other houses setup their camps, Maester Lucen relays to any that are near what families they are as well as their alliances.

Well I do not think Lucen can take a +1 status as he would then be at a 4, which would be higher than the lord's own children, I think. A +1 to knowledge is always a good bet (I see it as finishing a new link in his chain)...
Sorry I have not been very vocal...tourneys are much more for the martially inclined, although I would like to get into some intrigue with finding out information about any houses we regularly interact with (or perhaps might marry into)

The Maester will talk to others throughout the grounds and try to pick up on any gossip or rumors. (not sure what I would need to roll for that)

Was still waiting on an OK from the DM on the potion, and in general the making of any of those sort of things...is it under Healing, or something else? Assuming it is ok...

Lucen walks over to the leather and wood case he usually keeps with him when away from his workroom.

"He you go...just mix it with a bit of wine and it will not taste so bitter. Guaranteed to keep your 'needs' under control. But use it sparingly, as too much could make you loose all interest permanently!"

Maester will keep his eye on this liege-lord, making sure he does not over do it. He will also make the rounds of any other Maester's who have arrived with their houses.

Would not the title of Castellan clash with some of the duties of the Maester, or is it mostly just military? When I think of Castellan I think Major Domo, or steward.

ready too!!

Ser Wylde:

The Maester chuckles.
"In my youth I did tumble a lass or two, but once I had forged my first link, then my only love became learning. All Maesters are celibate once they take the chain, but it does not mean we cannot appreciate beauty when we see it!"

DM, Ser Wylde and Garran:

Lucen smiles and turns to the Hunt Master.

"A good night to you to my friend. Tomorrow will indeed be a busy day!"

He turns back to Ser Wylde and ushers him into his chamber.

"So you are looking for a potion to curb your carnal desires, is that it? One would suggest that self discipline should be enough for a knight, but neither you nor I would believe such, eh!?" he laughs as he seats the knight and begins to rummage through the numerous bottles and containers on his worktable.

Not too sure if I can just make something up, or do I need to make some sort of roll to do this....

Ser Wylde:

Lucen gets up from the table he is sharing with Garran and speaks to the knight.
"What kind of potion did you have in mind, Ser?" he asks.

Same here...Garran and I do not drink much, and turn in at a decent hour so we will both be ready for tomorrow...moving on!..lol

Lucen nods and smiles as he reaches into his bad and removed a bottle.

"Take a warm, damp cloth and add the contents of this bottle to it, then rub on your tired muscles. Let it sit for a few moments before you clean it off with another warm cloth. It should keep your muscles warm and loose, my lord."

Before he leaves, Lucen stops the Hunt Master.

Garran! I was wondering if you were free this evening. I have a fine bottle of Arbor Gold and would like to chat, if you have the time."

Relationships:

Cassondria: As a woman of standing, Lucen treats her with the same deference as he does his Liege's wife. Beyond creating headache powders and other 'common' cures, he has had very little dealing with her.

Darne: As the son of his liege, Lucen treats the boy as he does his sister. Again, he would never intrude on their time, but has had a number of conversations about politics and house intrigue with the young lord, but the lad would rather be in the practice field than listening to him.

Matthias: As a bastard himself, Lucen feels for the man, but has very little interaction with him, other than as a healer.

Marcus: Again a kinght and bastard, the only interaction is when healing is needed.

Garran: Lucen respects the Huntsman greatly, and feels almost himself when talking to the man. He is the only member of the household who he feels he can 'be himself' with. Garran's knowledge of the woods and fields has benefited Lucen on a number of occasions.

Weyland:Another knight, and a bastard to boot, with his own children. Not sure what to think of the fellow, but he is good with his weapons.

Ophilia: Lucen is very interested in Ophilia. While she is different and exotic, he is more interested in the blase she keeps and how she got it. Would love to take her in his care and teach her more, but not sure how to approach her.

Garran: I can see you and Maester Lucen having become, if not friends, then companions. I am sure he has asked you to gather him some odds and ends from the forest and fields around the keep.

Having dealt with his lord, Maester Lucen heads down into the courtyard to watch the training. He feels his own muscles tense and loosen to the rhythms of the water dance. While no one is watching, he slowly goes through one of the exercises taught to him by Porthos all those years ago.

Lucen nods and heads back to his rooms to gather the poultices and ointments to deal with his lord's ills. He arrives back at the lord and ladies chamber and knocks politely.

"It is I, Maester Lucen. I have brought the required items."

Lucen, seeing his liege lord leaving the table, gets up to follow him and his lady-wife from the hall. He keeps the required 2 steps behind the couple.

"Will there be anything else M'lord?" the Maester inquires.
