Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Hey folks. I must now make an announcement I'm finding it quite difficult to make. I'm sure some, if not all of you won't be too surprised though as it's been coming on slowly for some time now.
I'm taking an indefinite leave from PbP.
I've been playing these wonderful games online for seven or eight years now, and they have brought me an immense amount of fun, creative challenge, entertainment and inspired flights of fancy. I simply do not have the words to express my deep gratitude for each and every one of my fellow players, and most especially all the hard working GMs I have had the great pleasure and privilege to game with. Thank you all, so incredibly much.
While I still do very much enjoy these games and collaborative creative fiction, upon some deep reflection, over some time now, I feel I need to concentrate my energies in some different directions. Now is the time for it.
I'm sorry I didn't get to know Lomar more. He's a bit of an arrogant bastard, but he's great in a scrape and he does love his sister (perhaps a little too much. Hey! They're not actually related, ya know).
If you can or choose to somehow keep him around, great! But if you have to kill him off, I totally understand that too. Whatever you feel works for the story best.
I may be back! I just have no idea when, or if at all. I am sure I'll still skulk around and keep abreast of the game though. So please keep up the stellar writing!
I consider you all friends, and I wish you all the very best. Thanks for putting up with me all these years!
Fare thee well, my boon companions and, as the Elvish saying goes,
"Merry meet, merry part, and merry meet again!"
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Somewhat surprised at how much of this strange underground race, the Mongrelmen, he was able to recall, Lomar narrows his eyes slightly, curious and intrigued. He was also though, as usual, impatient.
As none of the others seemed to be making any attempt to further conversation with them, he himself steps forward. He stands with strength and confidence. Despite Tawn'Garth significantly bigger size and stature, Lomar speaks to her as an equal "So, as pleasant at it is to watch that undead piece of s#!t burn, I, for one, have no desire to stand around here all day. So, what next?"
Placing a hand on Lasciel's shoulder, and with a sweep of his other hand indicating the rest of the group, he continues "My sister and I, and these others here, became trapped down here in your world during the demon attack on Kenebras." Showing the first flicker of emotion, he stumbles for the briefest moment as he carries on "it was...it was sudden, and devastating. We are all, actually, as far as I know, unaware of exactly how we ended up in the Underdark, or why. Yet here we are. I seek safety for my sister. I seek answers for what happened to us. And I seek revenge. What, if anything, can you do to help me with any of that?"
As he finishes he continues staring at the big warrior. Not insulting, or rude, yet neither afraid or supplicant. As well, as always, he is full of the arrogance which is as much a part of him as his shadowed blood and breath.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
After hearing Kieran's translation Lomar says quietly to no one in particular. Fortunately I have no need to sheathe, or draw, my 'weapons'. I am a weapon."
He then looks towards Seren, indicating the barbarian with a thumb He says we were told to have our weapons down, not dropped or left behind. I think you can bring your glaive, just keep it non-threatening."
Assuming we continue to move forward, as requested...
As the group begins to continue forward, Lomar's darkvision allows him to slowly pick out details of the force before them. On seeing the strange creatures, the warlock tries to determine, if he can, just what exactly they may be.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Hmmm, I'm wondering if that scene with Sinoa was a little misleading? You did catch, Kieran, that it was an optional roll, yes? And the bit about the tears of joy streaming down her face when she heard the bellow? If you did, and did indeed stop her on purpose, then no worries. Especially as you quite possibly saved us a beating from her big brother or some such. Or we just lost a powerful alley. Either way, just wanted to make sure that was an intentional action on your part. Cheers!
As Lasciel helps him assist the Paladin, Lomar's demeanour towards is her is, as always, much different than it is with anyone else. With a gentle tone and smile he jokes "No, no, clearly I was just standing in the wrong place when the bolt hit me. You, my dear sister, were brave and perfect as always. And I will always need you, Lasciel." ending with a warm smile.
With a fair bit more formality, he then asks the Paladin "Are you well? ....Seren?"
So Lomar should be fully healed and Seren got one potion and three channels. I don't think Cid's potion has been used yet.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Lomar's shoulder remains stiff as he glares at the much bigger man. A moment of silence ensues and then something seems to give inside the cold seeming Fetchling as he nods once at Kieran and then quickly glances at his sister Lasciel.
His gaze then falls upon the dying Paladin and, moving to kneel beside her, he takes out the other potion and begins to gently administer it to her.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Mmmmmmmmmmm, chunks!!
Despite the pain of his wound, Lomar agrees with Cid. Nodding his head and showing more emotion than is his wont, the warlock growls "Yes, that undead #!+@$#rd needs to be destroyed. Lasciel, can you get one of those healing potions out of my pack for me, please?"
When he has it in hand, he quickly quaffs it and begins moving further down the passage "Let's go. The Drow is right, we need to kill that Dwarf before he can bring any more of his friends to the party"
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Sorry boss! Wasn't around much this weekend. Great job on the DMPCing though! Thanks!
More relieved than he'd ever be willing to admit by the arrival of the others, especially the barbarian and his impressive use of his hammer.
The warlock begins to summon his internal arcane might once again, yet the last second before he releases his blast suddenly Lasciel is standing protectively in front of him. It takes all the control he has to swing his fists to one side, causing the blast to smash into the wall, instead of his beloved sister.
Putting one hand to his stomach, he can only manage to say her name, a combination of relief, gratitude and frustration all rolled into one exhalation of breath "Lasciel! I almost...!"
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Growling at his previous missed shot, Lomar easily dodges the crossbow bolt sent his way and returns fire. However, while his aim is true, the defeated zombie falls directly in the path of his blast, causing the now truly dead corpse to explode all over Seren and Jaeger.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
As Seren dashes off and deals a telling blow against the zombie, Lomar takes a knee and unleashes a furious blast against one of the skeleton crossbow'men'. Yet the distance is significant and his blast goes wild, veering off into the darkness.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
As soon as the dwarf vanishes, Lomar rushes over to his sister "Lasciel! Are you hurt?? I heard you scream!"
It is then that he feels Ethyra's healing magics wash over the group, and sees his sister's, as well as his own, wounds heal before his eyes. A surge of warmth and gratitude surges through him towards the human healer, a type of emotion he has rarely felt for anyone else other his sister. Not entirely comfortable with the feeling, he ignores it and speaks again to Lasciel "The Barbarian is right, we must kill that undead piece of s#!t while he's weakened. Please, stay with the others until we get back!"
Knowing that his sister is easily as stubborn as he could be, and twice as brave, he can only hope that she heeds his words as he dashes off after the Dwarf, he darkvision serving him well in any unlighted areas.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
From the moment of his being stung, and the instant paralasyis it induced, two emotions have been building in Lomar. One, fear. Fear for his sister, and his inability to protect her. The second, fury. Fury at the insult of being reduced to a state more useless than a newborn. Having had the necessity of being dragged to safety like a slab of meat only fueled his wrath. Finally, seeing out of the corner of his eye Lascial dash off to join the battle, and hearing her cry of pain is the final straw.
Putting all his will and anger into his effort he shouts mentally "I. WILL. MOVE. NOW" and he suddenly bursts into motion.
Moving faster than seemingly humanly possible, Lomar launches off the ground and dashes into the next room all in one amazing, rapid motion. Taking in the entire battle situation in a flash, seeing the deranged Dwarf and realizing it is the prime enemy, the warlock lashes out with a massive burst of arcane energy and fire. A black torrent of magical plasma bursting against the withered flesh of the undead dwarf.

Definitely curious as to who, or what, else may be sharing these underground caves with them. Before Cid, or, more specifically, the dark-blinded, clumsy looking big human can plod forward, Lomar drawls.
"Perhaps, if stealth and surprise are required here, which I highly recommend, it should be those of us who do not need a torch to light our way, and can move quietly, proceed ahead to see what lies ahead."
Arching an eyebrow as he waits for Kieren's, or Cid's reply, regardless of the response, the surprisingly nimble warlock stalks ahead of the party's light to try and get a sneak peek at whatever as near the campfire. His arrogance may have sapped his concentration however for, in this instance at least, he does not quite move as quietly as he had intended to.
Frowning as the almost always overconfident tiefling is engulfed by the darkmantle, Lomar steps past his sister, aims carefully, and unleashes another blast while saying under his breath "I hope this hurts it more than it does you Jaeger."
Reacting far more swiftly than would seem possible, Lomar is able to act twice before all other are able to act even once.
The first blast already on it's way, he once again summons up the arcane energy within him and speaks one simple word as he unleashes a second blast upon his target, "Die."
Lomar merely arches an eyebrow at the quips between Jaeger and Kieran, although the corner of his mouth does twitch upwards slightly at the slight mockery towards the big human.
Never does he take his eyes off the darkmantles though. When the first one comes into range, he attacks, black arcane energy and red hot fire entwining around each other in his blast.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Still curious about the statues, Lomar turns to the woman with the crossbow and the elf that she leads. Not having bothered to remember either of their names as of yet, he speaks somewhat brusquely "Old man, you seem the knowledgeable type. These statues here" whereupon he describes them in detail before continuing "..have you heard of their like? Do you know their history, or where they might indicate we are?"

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
K Local: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 (heard any rumors or stories about these caverns or statues?)
Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 (any idea where they might be relative to Kenbaras?)
Rested and restored from the night in the temple, Lomar shares his store of rations from the found backpack and moves off with the others when all are ready.
Upon seeing the carved figures, he stops in admiration, trying to determine who may have carved them. Say one thing for these prime material races, they did tend to produce many talented artisans.
What exists are there from this cavern, that we are aware of so far, at least?
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
If everyone who's not on watch can fit inside the building, yes, I think it's safe to assume we all sleep in there. Those who are on watch should be outside the building though. I'm also assuming that Lomar and Lasciel take a watch together. Yes sis? : )
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Would we have any idea what time it is, or at least what it might be based on how long we've been awake?
Lomar expresses no interest whatsoever in cleaning or repairing the temple, and lends no aid in the task of doing so. At the same time however, he does not speak against the others doing so.
He does not seem in a particular hurry to 'escape', for, in his opinion, there is likely nothing much left to escape to. He was Kayal, or a Fetchling, as the Humans so ignorantly called his race. He was adaptable, he was prgmatic, he would survive, and he would do all in his power, to his last breath, to ensure the same of Lasciel. No, as long as his sister and he are both safe and well, he is content. They will eventually get to wherever they need to go, and Kenabres was no more, they would find somewhere else to live.
Although he does not aid in the temple restoration, Lomar does keep watch. When the lights sources outside the temple have faded, he remains alone in the dark, perfectly content in the deep shadows which prove no barriers to his eyesight, his eyes glowing a soft blue green in the darkness.
When the sounds of work from within finally seem to slow down and stop, Lomar leaves his guard position and joins the others. As Lasciel makes her suggestion he nods in agreement "Yes, if enough of us are weary now, we may as well rest here, now, then. For we will all be better off with a little rest, I am sure."
WHOA!! 8^0 Kinda wish I hadn't wasted all those awesome rolls on percep and appraise checks though :-|
After doing a thorough check of the interior, Lomar begins to focus on the items. He tilts his head up at the sound of the scuffle, but then shakes it once annoyedly and concentrates once again on the things they've found. When he hears Kieran's threats to Horgus, one corner of the the warlock's mouth raises slightly. What emotion it is expressing is anyone's guess.
This one feels Much more like the original 3.5 Warlock, which is what I have been looking for this whole time. Almost no spellcasting whatsoever (a handful of cantrips, that's it) and lots of the feel of the original, "no one else can do this" abilities of the WoC Warlock.
Gonna take a closer look at it for a bit, but looks very exciting at first glance.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
(This is the version and thread Lomar is currently using. There's not a whole lot of difference, as far as I see yet. Just a few things cleaned up and tweaked, so I'll prob update to the newest one, if that's cool.)
There's been LOTS of discussion on this revision, especially on the original post of it. And so far I've yet to read anyone complain about the the damage of the blast. So, maybe that's just me, and I'm willing to let it stand if you are. Of course, I'm always willing to go with whatever feels best to you.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Lomar nods and heads within the chamber, the darkness beyond not bothering or hindering him at all. He does, though, hold his breath against the stench, and keeps his eyes peeled for any dangers.
Those for whom darkness is an obstacle will have to deal with it, or not, themselves.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
No, I don't think so. Or, hrrmmm, as written it's considered untyped arcane damage. Here:
"Eldritch Blast (Su): A warlock gains a supernatural ability known as the eldritch blast; this ability allow the warlock to focus his eldritch arcane energy into a damaging blast of dark energies able to wound, or even kill, his opponents. As a standard action a warlock can make a ranged touch attack against an opponent within 60 feet, dealing 1d8 points of damage (the damage results from pure arcane energy and does not possess an energy type, therefore energy resistances and immunities offer no protection). The target of the eldritch blast receives no saving throw. Although the eldritch blast itself does not provoke an attack of opportunity, it should be noted that all ranged touch attacks in Pathfinder do provoke an attack of opportunity when the to-hit roll is made.
At 2nd level, and every two warlock levels gained thereafter, the damage inflicted by an eldritch blast increases by 1d8 to a maximum of 11d8 at 20th level.
An eldritch blast is not subject to spell resistance.
An eldritch blast deals half damage to objects.
For the purposes of the spells globe of invulnerability, lesser globe of invulnerability, and similar powers and effects, a 1st level warlock’s eldritch blast has an effective spell level equal to a 1st-level spell. At each odd-numbered warlock level gained thereafter, the eldritch blast strength increases by one level, to an effective spell of 9th-level at warlock level 17."
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Ok, so, for the Warlock class version I'm using, as typed, the Eldritch Blast does 1d8 damage, and the for the Invocation, Inferno Blast, I chose, that adds another 1d8 fire damage to the blast. Then, at level two, the Warlock adds another 1d8 damage to the blast, which continues to go up 1d8 every two levels.
So at level two Lomar's blast will be doing 3d8 and 4th 4d8 and so on. Not including any other additions from further Invocations added.
2d8 damage for a 1st level, or 3d8 for a 2nd level PC, on a ranged Touch attack, seems a little steep for me.

Lomar Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Although his face does pale somewhat at the sight, Lomar's voice is calm and even as he states with confidence "Indeed, it is some form of vile undead. Still, it will die again, this I swear."
And with that, he unleashes a blistering bolt of magical and fiery energy at the creature.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 20-4 to hit if the undeady is considered to be in melee already
Arcane Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Fire Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Lets remove the flies since they're dead, ya? And Lomar could be in the space of the left most fly, or the half space to the left of that, if possible. Man this is a teeny room!
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Seemingly unfazed by either the battle or sounds from within the structure, Lomar comments calmly "Perhaps we should advance so we're not tripping all over each other in this tunnel, yes?"
Without bothering to wait for any reply any of the others, he begins to step out of the corridor and moves off to the side, his back not far from the wall. As he does, he extends a hand back towards his sister "Lasciel?"
I'm back y'all! (although I know you know that already ; ) And thanks for botting Lomar, Lasciel!
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
What "smile", Mr. "stone face"? ;)
Shaking his head at the utter insanity of a cripple and a blond man heading off to confront a giant servant Lamar calls out " Out of the tunnel you fools! You'll get yourself killed! Did you not hear our plan?? "
He then readies and positions himself to be able to send distance blasts to the snake of when it shows up in the room.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Despite the human´s significantly greater size and bulk, Lomar stands his ground when Kieran steps up to him. Not batting an eye, he replies calmly yet with a dangerous edge to his voice ¨I have said what I wished to say, when I wish to say more, I can assure you, I will say it. Pretty words or no.¨
His gaze remains locked with the other until Anevia's wise and frustrated interventon breaks then tension.
Despite the barbarian´s terrible attempt at subtley, Lomar still picks up on his intention, and his own ire seems to cool several degrees. However there is still a clear ¨This is not settled yet¨tone in his voice as he says ¨Yes, let us wait till then¨
After a few more seconds of eye contact, he breaks off and moves to stand with his sister, his air one of completely ignoring Kieran as if the other hardly existed.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Arching his eyebrow and with the tiniest quirk to his mouth, Lamar replies smoothly, "Why, surely it should be the bravest of us, yes? And who could be braver than a big strong warrior such as yourself?"
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Lasciel's hand on his shoulder has an immediate, and visible calming effect on Lomar. He looks at her and all his anger evaporates instantly as he nods ever so slightly to her in acquiescence.
His gaze does still skip right over Kieran though as he looks to Seren, replying "Yes, that is a good idea. Perhaps we can lure in back to the area we all first fell in to."
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Hey all, I'm leaving tomorrow to travel for a month in Costa Rica!
I should have some net access here and there but I have no idea at present where or when that will be, so please feel free to DMPC Akiros when necessary.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Lomar frowns at the tone, clearly not impressed, and replies, his voice a few degrees cooler "Yes, that's correct, same as the maggots"
Sense Motive DC18:
Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
It seems fairly clear that Lomar is not, at present, overly impressed with the big, loud, human barbarian in general, or in particular, being spoken to with the tone one would use for a child.
As well, it's pretty obvious what, and who, the arrogant Fetchling is referring to with his emphasis on the words same and maggots.
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
Lomar steps forward, some slight condensation in his voice as he says "Well, as a matter of fact, yes. Instead of risking yourselves in a frontal attack, why do not those of us capable of distance combat attack the creature from afar? Then, if we have not taken it down before it reaches us, you melee types can 'do your thing', and get all close and personal."
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
As no one seems interested in the arrows or other items in his backpack, Lomar shrugs his shoulders, puts everything back in and shrugs it back on his back.
He then waits for the others that Jaeger went to retrieve and once they have moved ahead, he falls in to guard the rear of the group.
He motions for Lasciel to join him and if/when she does, he speaks for her ears alone "So, sister, while our situation is grim, it is not without hope, and with the items in this pack, our chances of survival are that much better."
Pausing to take a long, evaluating look at the others in the party he turns to her again "So, what do you think of our companions? Some may be of aid to us, yet others are a clear liability. If something goes wrong, and we would have a better chance of survival on our own, we leave. I want no argument from you on this! Although, yes, perhaps we could take Jaeger and his wife with us. She seems alright, for a human. Why can I never remember her name??"
Male Fetchling (Kayal)- Outsider (native) Warlock/1
After the battle, Lomar takes off the backpack and opens it, allowing any who wish to discover it's contents to do so.
Backpack contents:
A Crusader's pack fell into this cavern during the battle on the surface. The pack itself is a masterwork pack that contains 10 days of trail rations, a flint and steel, a set of caltrops, two flasks of oil, a bundle of 12 arrows, a potion (Unidentified) and a second potion (Unidentified)
He takes out the bundle of 12 arrows saying "These are of no use to me, do any of you have a bow?"
and then the potions "...and then there's these. Lasciel, would you care to help me examine them properly?"
He watches the dark Elf sneak off into the darkness, alone, but says nothing, his only reaction a slight shake of his head. He then finally turns to the Paladin, the corner of his lip arching slightly along with his eyebrow, suggesting either disinterest or disdain, or both, as he replies "I care not who leads us, or pretends to. Know this though, I shall always do what I feel best, and what I
determine to be in the best interest of my sister, and myself. Little else matters to me."
