They wanted the creature to live, so they can be responsible for it. Kei's responsibility left when he would have pulled the trigger.

Starfinder doesn't depend on alignment except for a couple situations, so I see no need to have one for my characters (except in those specific situations).

Kei lowers his weapon and stashes it on his back. "Then this creature and its future actions are your responsibility. I disagree with your decision, but it seems that I am outnumbered." The machine gun disappears from the floor where it was dropped and reappears in Kei's hands. He reloads it and stashes it on his back as he continues, "As it seems the danger is mostly over I can do whatever else is needed."

I was going to continue my discussion with the GM via spoiler, but in character is better.

Kei maintains his aim, "What do you expect now? What is there to gain from keeping this poor creature alive? Where would we take it? Back to its people? It would harm them given the opportunity, obviously. What then would its people do with it? Lock it away for the remainder of its demented life? Or maybe sentence it to death, which is what I propose now. How are any of these ends any different? The only difference is not having the blood of this creature on your hands. I care little for such semantics. Maybe then we'd take it with us to protect its people. What then? Where would we take it? To the Hellknights? They would readily kill the creature. Again same result here. So we bind the creature here and now, what is next for it? Such simple moral statements as you can't kill a bound and unconscious creature. Simple morals do not hold up in the face of real situations. Tell me how this creature's life as well as its species will be enriched by keeping it alive and I will spare it."

GM:
Though I understand the viewpoint that "executing a helpless and unconscious enemy" is somehow automatically an infamy producing act, I think it very much does not accurately represent the situation. Your statement that there "are other options available" is very much inaccurate. After being rendered unconscious (which would have been a straight up kill for any other creature we have faced and many our characters will in the future) it woke up and the creature then, even though surrounded by enemies with no hope of success, attacked with a powerful spell, doing pretty decent damage. With such an attack in its arsenal and its clear fanaticism, it is a very serious danger to its own seemingly fragile people. So, as a member of a faction specifically dedicated to being protectors, he sees every justification with this action. If you truly insist that this action is still worthy of an infamy point I would disagree once more whole heartedly, and then say yes I and Kei will readily accept the infamy point for doing what is very obviously the regrettable but right action.

Kei aims his rifle at the head of the creature...

Kei drops the large, smoking machine gun and draws both a grenade and his large survival knife (quick release sheath makes it a swift action). He tosses the makeshift frag grenade behind the two enemies and adopts a combat stance with his knife.

Using Deadly Aim. -2 to attack for +2 to damage. As far as I read, it works for grenades. If you disagree, merely subtract 2 from damage and add 2 to the attack and DC.
Frag Grenade DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 5) + 2 = 12

Deadly Aim:

Benefit: When you take the attack or full attack action with weapons (including a solarian’s solar manifestation, but not spells or other special abilities of any kind), you can take a –2 penalty to your attack rolls. If you do, those attacks deal additional damage equal to half your base attack bonus (minimum 1).

Kei preps himself for combat as the others take their moments to rest. He goes through his ammo, his grenades, his large X-gen gun. To the less combat experienced members, he has a veritable arsenal of heavy weapons. After he has checked and rechecked, he stands in front of the door. "I am ready when you all are," he says in his low voice.

Fair enough, we have had different experiences then. I have been challenged twice by an AP, and once by a single starship combat in SFS. That said, I also play with a group that are very experienced with table tops and almost alway optimize their characters (me too).

Is not something I'm particularly stringent on in Starfinder. As SF can rarely be described as being hard. On top of that, I'm playing a level 4 in 1-2 tier. My 50+total hp will likely protect me from almost any eventuality.

Kei'jon looks at Chetna seriously, "This is not a safe place for that. You may come if you wish, but I'd prefer your skills stay here where our other team members can benefit from them. Please ensure their safety. The ysoki isn't looking very good."

Kei looks to the other members of his team with a serious face, "I will take the creature back. Continue on so that you may rest. I will catch up." And, with that, he scoops up the small creature, presses it against his torso, hunches around it, and rushes back out into the storm.

I am happy to roll (or you can) multiple rolls to time lapse this for efficiency. Just tell me how many.
