I thought it was a case of you can make 8 craft checks (whenever a party is called for and you're not in it) and you can divide those craft checks up however you like. One option is getting half the craft check's total in gp. One option is putting the craft check towards crafting an item of some kind. For example, since I have craft (bows), I can make 8 craft (bows) checks and, if I want to, I can use some of them to make a composite longbow with a +1 strength rating (which would probably take 2 or 3 checks and would use up however much cash I need to spend on resources) and then use the remaining ones to get cash as per the method in Stylz's post.

Kala decides to let the old man off this time. "Next time you need help with monster," she says to him, "say you need help with monster and Kala will help." She then turns to Bartholomew. "And what was magic spell you cast that make Kala giant?" Maybe not all magic is bad after all.

Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
If that kills it, Kala's thoughts will then turn to finding the wizard who sent them here and giving him a piece of her mind (though maybe stopping short of actually attacking him). If not ... Fortitude save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

It also means I have 4 rounds left of rage. Kala turns to face the man talking to her. "Hmph," she says, "You talk like papa talked." She then braces herself for the monster's charge. Readying an action to attack with hammer when the cockatrice gets into Kala's range.

OK so it's Fortitude saves.
New totals:
- Strength: 24 (+7)
- Dexterity: 12 (+1) - Constitution: 20 (+5) - HP: 23/27 - AC: 10 (8 touch, 9 flat foot) - Fortitude: +8 (+10 vs spells, SLA and Su) - Reflex: +1 (+3 vs spells, SLA and Su) - Will: +3 (+5 vs spells, SLA and Su) - To-hit: +7 melee (+6 PA), +2 ranged, +9 CMB, 20 CMD - Earth breaker total damage: 3d6+10 (3d6+13 PA) "Argh!" Kala yelps as the not-chickens bite her. It is just after this, however, that she starts seeing everything shrink around her. "What is this?" Kala asks with a bit of fright in her voice, just before her sudden growth spurt stops, leaving her at double her normal size. She feels a lot stronger now and, as she takes a step back, she glowers at the two not-chickens at her feet. "Now you die!" Kala shouts before slamming her enlarged hammer on the weaker of the two not-chickens. Kala takes a 5-foot step back so that she may strike one of the cockatrices, and then Power Attacks the weaker-looking one (ie, the one with less HP left).

Upon seeing the 'chickens', Kala believes that they are not actually chickens at all, although being uninitiated in the ways of magic, she does not know what the creatures are. "I will smash lying magic man!" Kala yells, quite clearly getting angrier by the second. "But first ..." she adds in a much deeper growling voice. If anyone does want to cast any kind of buff on Kala, do so now because, once her turn comes up, she will enter rage mode and her superstition power means, among other things, she will be making boosted saves versus allies' spells whether she wants to or not.

DM Stylz wrote: After a heavy night of drinking, and some ample time sleeping it off, you decide some extra coin would go a long way in getting more mead and stronger liquor. This is an accurate description of Kala's thought process. Kala turns to her inquisitive human companion. "This man is magic man, yes?" she says. "Maybe chickens are magic too."

Wow, a lot has been happening since I last posted here! After a mix of quiet time at her shop and raucous celebration in the taverns, Kala hears an announcement from the magic shop she saw when she first entered the marketplace. Apparently the owner is giving out free potions. Kala hesitantly approaches the shop, grabs one of the green potions as the colour reminds her of a rather nice drink she once had, and then leaves and runs back to her tent. Upon getting there, Kala sees that her sign has fallen over, so she puts it back up and writes underneath the picture of the bow: Hunting bows for gold coins At the moment Kala can reliably make regular bows and composite bows with up to a +1 strength rating, and might be willing to take a chance on a +2 strength rating one.

Kala bids the man farewell as he leaves her tent. With business being quite slow, she decides that she should make a better bow for herself, so she starts working on a composite longbow. A composite longbow with a +1 strength rating costs 200 gp (or 2k sp). Materials cost is therefore 2000/3 = 666 2/3 sp, so that would be 66 gp, 6 sp, 6 cp? It has a craft DC of 17 and taking 10 on the check gives a result of 18. 17 * 18 = 306, so it'd take 3 checks to make the bow. After three weeks of work, Kala's new bow is finally complete. To celebrate, she heads off to the nearest tavern and buys a mug of ale. Partly to get rid of the loose 4 cp and partly because Kala likes a good drink.

Although Kala would have no trouble making a standard arrow, she just cannot seem to shape the adamantine chunks at all, so she throws said adamantine chunks onto the floor in a fit of frustration. Maybe Kala should come back to these arrows later. Or maybe Kala should take strong metal to better arrow maker. For now, Kala makes hunting bows. And so, using her tools and some loose pieces of wood, Kala erects a sign with a crude drawing of a longbow on it next to her tent's entrance, figuring that folks might get the hint that she can make bows in exchange for gold. Kala then wanders through the marketplace to see if anything particularly useful is being sold. At one point she arrives at a shop selling various construction materials. She hands over a gold piece in exchange for some hemp rope and, satisfied with her purchase, returns to her new shop. Not long after returning, Kala gets her first customer: a stout, short-haired man with a tattoo on his forehead. The man's demeanour suggests that he wants to get straight down to business. "Yes," Kala replies tersely, "I make hunting bows. I sell them for gold coins."

Kala Krunn wrote: Now to work out the logistics of making a couple of adamantine arrows. So I've been talking this over with some folks and I think I may have finally worked out the logistics, but I want to double check. The market price of 2 adamantine arrows works out to be 120.1 gp or 1201 sp. Normally I'd have to pay 400.333... sp but I think because I already have the adamantine component I don't need to pay for that? In which case I just need to pay 3 copper pieces for the basic arrow bits. Then, I'm not sure if I have to do this separately for each arrow or if this set of checks covers both arrows, but I have to make a DC 12 check to make the basic arrows and then one or more DC 20 checks for the masterwork and adamantine components of the arrows until my check result times the DC of 20 equals 1201 sp. If I've gotten any of this wrong, please let me know before I start rolling craft checks and screwing it all up.

Kala returns to the marketplace now a bit richer from her mission. In particular, she has obtained a small supply of adamantine and has plans for using it to make some arrows. If Kala wants to make arrows from strong stuff Kala cannot say name of, Kala needs better tools. She browses the shops for some masterwork artisan's tools and soon finds a stall where she can trade in her old ones (and some gold) for some newer ones. Now where can Kala go to make arrows? Maybe Kala should get tent? It takes a while for her to find a shop that sells tents. When she finally finds one, she learns that they've run out of small tents, so she purchases a medium one instead. Then Kala gets an idea. An awful idea. She gets a wonderful, awful idea. Actually, it's not that awful. If Kala puts up tent in market, maybe Kala can make hunting bows and sell them for gold coins. So she erects the tent in an area of the marketplace that's quiet enough that setting up a new shop would be possible but not so quiet that nobody comes. But first, Kala must make strong arrows. Before opening Kala's Hunting Bow Shop, Kala gathers the required materials for arrow making and begins making some adamantine arrows. Now to work out the logistics of making a couple of adamantine arrows.

If this battle is any indicator, Kala's earth breaker could use an upgrade. *goes to calculate the value of a +1 silver earth breaker* 40 + 180 (silver) + 300 (mwk) + 2000 (+1) = 2520. Aw crap. Would a Cape of Free Will be legit?
Female Human Superstitious and Surprisingly Intelligent Barbarian 2
Brandishing her earth breaker, Kala lets out a war cry of "Raaaaagh!" and runs westward. After passing the halfling, she screeches to a halt. "Oh wait." she says as she realises that there is nothing but wall in front of her. Kala then turns around to face the monster and, once again, lets out her war cry of "Raaaaagh!" before running up to the giant centipede and swinging her massive hammer. Kala enters rage, giving her a total of 22 STR and 20 CON, increasing her HP by 2 to 17, increasing her Will save to +3, increasing her Fort save to +7 and reducing her AC to 12 (or 10 for touch and flat footed).

Kala does not feel good with magic. But maybe Kala can sell dark man's magic? But Kala does not know how many gold coins is price for dark man's magic. While Kala is thinking, three others have taken some of the numbers. This causes her to get caught up in the rush and blurt out a number without thinking.
When Kala walks away, she says to herself "What has Kala done?"

Kala takes a look at the dwarf's sketch. "Ya, that is weapon I need," she says in response to his question. When Kala hears the price, she checks her money pouch. A frown appears on her face. "Hm, your price is good but I do not have silver coin, only gold coin," she informs the dwarf as she starts counting out gold pieces. Does being done in a week mean that Kala would have the weapon in time for the next adventure? I think I saw something about 4 weeks in the downtime rules but I'm not sure if that was just referring to Craft checks.
Female Human Superstitious and Surprisingly Intelligent Barbarian 2
At the mention of weapons, Kala's eyes light up and she hastily approaches the dwarf's shop. "Hail!" she says enthusiastically. "I am always needing weapons!" She then pauses to think which weapons she needs. "First," Kala says as she retrieves her earth breaker, "I need big hammer like this one, but made from silver. I hear silver hurts lie-can-frrropes. Second," she continues as she returns her earth breaker to its slot, "I need ... ah, what is it called? It has long wood handle and metal blade shaped like moon. I need one with blade made from cold iron in case spirits of forest are hostile. Third, I need new hunting bow." Kala suddenly remembers that the dwarf specifically said melee weapons. "Oh, never mind. I make my own hunting bow." In case you didn't understand any of that, Kala wants a silver earth breaker and a cold iron bardiche. She also wants a composite longbow but can make that herself ... eventually. With the gold she currently has, she could probably only afford the bardiche right now.

So I think I'm in? Also is everyone still at their stations? Not far behind the kobold, a large woman enters the marketplace much more apprehensively. Although Kala's travels had already introduced her to urban life, it hadn't made enduring the hustle and bustle much easier. She steps carefully around the various stalls, trying not to bump into anyone as she looks to see what each stall sells. The first stall that grabs Kala's attention is one run by a drow. Upon noticing that the stall is called "Rifiki's Emporium of Magic", she hesitates for a moment and uneasily turns away. The second stall she spots is a cart belonging to a halfling. She pauses to read the sign detailing the services the stall offers. The armour isn't particularly enticing and the mention of magical items and scrolls prompts Kala to look elsewhere. "Magic this, magic that," Kala mutters under her breath, starting to panic. "Is Kala in wrong place at wrong time?" Her question came out a little louder than intended. Soon, Kala finds another stall, this one manned by a dwarf. The dwarf appears to be busy with another man so Kala nervously stands back from the stall and tries to determine via observation what exactly the dwarf sells. Kala hopes this is not another magic shop.
