Thread necro. I have a cleric/sorcerer mystic theurge. On the cleric side Using metamagic as a prepared caster doesn't lengthen casting times. If I had an Extended resist energy prepared as a third level cleric spell, when I use a 4th level sorcerer slot to cast it, what is the casting time, standard or full round? If a cleric has a spell prepared with metamagic, can you add more metamagic to it using the appropriate sorcerer level slot as a full round casting time? Thanks, Havok

I disagree. I think the Alchemist was made core simply due to the Goblin being made a core race.
Greetings. I would recommend snowball instead of shocking grasp. Especially in a dex build with a ranged touch attack with no save or SR and it will synergize well with Rime spell. Take the close range arcana instead of the black blade so you can use snowball in spell combat. The black blade doesn't allow you to enchant your weapon with spell storing. A magus with a spell storing weapon can Nova like no other class. While i like Hexcrafters, I don't not think they are worth it due to the expense of Spell Recall. The biggest problem with casters is having enough spells when you need them. Spell Recall allows for ultimate flexibility. At 6th level and 9th i would take spell blending for adding the really nice wizard spells that aren't on the Magus list. I also would not recommend any dip for a Magus. To many good class abilities and delayed spell progression. Good Luck.
There are some spells that you can cast as immeadiate actions that would technically count as casting more than one spell a turn (excluding quickened).
some of the litany spells are immeadiate actions also.
I'd like to say Magi are by far my favorite Arcane class. The action economy and flexibility are awesome. I have found AC really isnt that important after mirror image. You can build an awesome layered defense with mirror image, displacement, and stoneskin. I personally wouldn't take kensai because it gives up Spell Recall. I find that ability to recall spells imperative. If you go kensai do a strength build with a falcata and then your crit will hit x 4 damage.
You can't go wrong with either magus or inquisitor. I would go dwarf for both classes also for the great saves (glory of old trait and steel soul feat). If you go magus, use a dervish dance (scimitar) build to help be more SAD. If you cant see your dwarven using a puny scimitar then go with a strength build and use the waraxe. In my experience dex for the str. magus isnt that important once you get mirror image and displacementspells. Dwarven inquisitor with heavy armor prof and waraxe and shield build for a more tanky build or two hand an earthbreaker or waraxe for more damage. Travel domain is excellent or conversion domain if you want to dump chrasima. All you need is power attack for offense. Furious focus is nice but not a necessity. Inquisitors have bane which is a great damage bonus. Both class self buff with swift actions (arcane pool and judgements). Action economy for both classes are extremely strong.
Go with Dervish Dance. Dex to hit/dam at level 3. Repeating crossbow is excellent for high dex/low strength. once bane comes online at 5 that can add instant extra damage. An inquisitor is an excellent self sufficient class. I'm not a big initimidation guy so i won't comment on that part of your build.
Both are great classes. The inquisitor is a great class for always being able to be useful and self sufficient. Their high skills and domain ability make them very flexible. Judgements while only x/day are very versatile to any situation. The biggest thing a Magus has going for them is action economy. Only class in the game that can cast a spell and full attack in the same round. Not only do you have that going for you but you also have tons of swift action abilities. Biggest perk of the Magus class is spell recall. IMHO the biggest problem with spell casters is never having enough of them. Spell recall is awesome. You dont have to take the same spell 2 or 3 times. You take it once and swift action recall it. Once you get improved spell recall and knowledge pool you are set. For sword and sorcery there is no better class. |
