The reason is, combat tracking temporarily raises the mechanic’s BAB. I’ve put the wording behind the spoiler; for now I’ve left combat tracking off. For balance issues I really don’t see an issue; it’s throwing a weak class a bone if it’s allowed. combat tracking: As long as that target is in sight, the exocortex feeds you telemetry, vulnerabilities, and combat tactics, allowing you to make attacks against that target as if your base attack bonus from your mechanic levels were equal to your mechanic level

Um is he disappointed I didn't damage the enemy vessel more and that's why he's trying to encourage me? Unsure what the captain's motivations "really are," Harec never-the-less, tries to concentrate and line up another shot at the enemy vessel. When he finally gets a clear shot he squeezes the trigger on his controls.
Argh! Harec you outa know to let the computer (targeting system) subroutine run it's full coarse, in order for it to anticipate movement patterns...How do expect to lead it? Therefore, he hurriedly apologizes to Zand and helps him off load before take-off. Harec settles into his routine after a few hours of space travel ...auxiliary engineer and 2nd gunner on the 'Loreseeker!' Not bad for only my 3rd mission!
When the Klaxon alarm sounds shortly after leaving the drift Harec's blood starts pumping. He rushes to the science station but has to inform the Formian of his lack of knowledge on the computer systems. He is told to go man the forward laser cannon and await orders. Harec listens to the halfing captain's negotiations with the smuggler's ship over the com-net. This doesn't sound like it's going well. Harec begins to fiddle with the targeting system's trying to find a lock on the thin vessel already maneuvering to evade. Captian, this is Harec...I'm at my station awaiting orders. Harec announces over the ship's network perhaps a little too excitedly.

He wanders around the vessel and finally finds quarters for his long time friend Zand Yos, a Damaya Lashunta that he met at his old research outpost the Castroveling wilderness. Harec turns to Omzig, Sorry little buddy gotta go for now! But, we'll get to know each other real soon i suppose... With that, Harec takes off to report to the science officer. When Harec arrives at the station he sees another Lashunta (this one Damaya) and the Formian he suspected. They indicate that he should inspect the computer terminal and upon looking at the computer Harec freezes. Um my apologies to both you officers. But, my training in computers is limited. I've actually never worked on this model before.I'm afraid without further training, I'd be very little help to you in this regard. My strengths lie in the engines and weapons of most ships. Not the internal operational systems. Harec lowers his eyes a bit ashamed of his lack of knowledge.

Venture Captain Arwin didn’t even mention what post I’d be filling on the ship, only that the ship leaves soon and that we may see some action with smugglers. I hope I don’t let the venture captain down! Harec makes his way on to the ship and finds his way to engineering. He sees a Yosoki with an exocortext not too dissimilar from his own, bent over with it’s head down a large conduit tube. He gently clears his voice trying not to startle the being, Ship’s mate Harec reporting for duty sir! goodness I hope it’s a male! It’s so tough to tell with Yosoki sometimes!
