Wonderous Items
- Stone of Light
Wonderous Items that fit with Hadarai's new bard aspect:
- Sitar of Restfulness
That's kinda what I was thinking -- I liked the added eladrin flavor of the bard (I love the image of a warrior that plays music to calm his allies during rests). And mechanically, it gives me another skill I've been missing and one more solid daily heal.
I ended up picking up the Feat: Bardic Dilettante = Bard MultiClass: training in Athletics + Majestic Word (healing) 1/day.
... So, it gives us another good daily heal.
My utility power is a daily stance that grants healing to 1 target everytime we bloody or drop a nonminion.
... So, it gives us a minor daily healing power for when we are fighting multiple nonminions.
I am also looking to power swap one of my at wills to maybe give me more temp hp in combat... I haven't been using my second at will at all in several fights, so I figure I may as well swap it.
Also one of the items on my list is a bardic instrument (Sitar of Restfulness) that will help temporary hp.
Hadarai is updated on his sheet - though, I do have an odd point with Character Builder. CB says I should have a 26 AC, and I think I have a 25... I can't figure out where the extra +1 is coming from (not that I really mind, but I'd love to know whether it's a glitch or real). Any ideas?
I've got +2 chain, a large shield... that's +8 for the armor, +2 for the shield, with +5 for being lvl10, where's the other +1????
Here's a list of every level 10 spell for wizards on the online DnD source. Since it's a utility power, most of them are movement or defensive powers... There are two interesting Wall spells that help block off the battlefield, but the only summoning spell on the list is Summon Hammerfist Crusher which summons a creature that can break objects for you... If any of the names strike your fancy, I can give you the details.
Witch's Reversal (Dragon Magazine 382)

Wellspring it is. I'll have to put the game on hiatus, due to health issues, but I am keen to continue. I'll put a post in this thread and the dicussion thread to alert you to the new game's start.
Hope you feel better!
It will give us all a chance to update our characters and be ready to roll when you're good to go :)
Take care, we'll see you when the "new season" of Sleeper starts up!
That's one of the things I really liked about Butcher's work. His magic is detailed and very in-depth, has consistent "rules", and still remains creative and cool. In both series.
He's good at action, suspense, humor,...
And I also like how much thought he puts into his inhumans. The Canim were very well done (especially Tavi's social interactions).
Yeah, at this point I'm sold on the author and would probably read just about anything JB puts out :)
I'm good with going either direction. The tomb didn't seem to have much else in it (there were a couple of unexplored doors and areas). Wellspring sounds like a place for new adventures :) plus we have a new party memeber joining soon...
But, I'm game for anything. So, I say we go where ever it is easiest to add DSXM into the group.
PS. Thanks for the link to the discussion thread -- I didn't realize we had one, lol.
yeah!
I didn't know there was a discussion page, lol.
(joined the group late)
I'm still leaning towards bardic-multiclass feat, that gives me 3 daily heals - not great, but it's something (it also gives me athletics, which I felt I was missing).
As for power, I think I had picked a healing utility power -- I'll have to check when I get home from work. I was also thinking of retraining one of my At-Wills. I haven't really used it yet, and I saw that there are a few Paly At-Wills that grant me Temp HP. Always a good boost.
----
DSXMachina, good meet you. I played a Barbarian in a different group and loved their damage output and mobility. It's a fun class!
(I just finished book 4 of the Dressden Files. I read the Codex of Alera Saga first and loved the Jim's work, so I gave DF a try. I had heard of the series, but this was the first I had picked it up... very cool series so far, I hear there's tons of books but I'm looking forward to it.)
Hadarai rests a hand on Akahale's shoulder, and inches himself between Akahale and Sybil.
"She is an agent of the Unnamed Death God, it is not our place to judge how the gods dispense justice. If the Raven Queen did not wish an end to Volkanth, then the Raven Queen would not have given her servant power. That is good enough for me."
Hadarai nods with respect to Sybil. "Thank you for the boon and blessings. May the Raven guide your path."
Sorry I was out of communications -- sudden computer crash, finally fixed up and good to go.
...
Catching up to the present:
Save upon waking: 1d20 ⇒ 12 (+5 if this is some sort of Charm effect)
Hadarai would gladly watch over the Bones. If able during the night, Hadarai would mark the "container" (the cloth sack) with the symbol of The Raven Queen and treat them with the care that the nameless god requires of her servants.
As for getting our two guests out of the dungeon, Hadarai will recount one of the methods the tielfings of Bael Turath used for elevating heavy packages up to the tops of thier towers.
History Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
And if that doesn't fly with the DM, he'll just haul on the ropes with his new athletics ;)
Athletics Check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
I still need to update my Level 10 character.
BUT
I'm stuck on my feat. I'm tempted to take a fighter or bard multiclass feat: the fighter one would give him a little more control on shifting enemies; the bard would give him one more daily heal, which the group could use. Either way, it would give him training in Athletics.
Thoughts?
"Graf is correct. I think either this place or that amulet is still trying to exert control over us." We know we have been hit before by mental/emotional attacks that nearly split us, those feelings are starting to creep back up.
"I say we knock out our two 'guests'. They may be the cause of the unease, or they could be conduits for the foul power... whatever. I bet if they're unconscious it may make us feel better -- even if it means carrying them, it's better than the alternative. I know I'll feel better knocking them out. We should also blindfold them. And cover their ears."
"As for resting, I'm good. We can continue on if necessary." This is clearly a bluff. But Hadarai wouldn't want to look like the weak link if the group needs to continue on. "But I gues if we do have to rest, I'll take watch with Akahale."
Hadarai catches his breath after his momentary loss of consciousness. He'd stay kneeling and offer a few prayers to Corellon for rewarding our bravery and seeing us through a difficult battle. And a quick thanks to the Raven Queen for seeing that his fate was not to be at an end this day.
"These foulspawn may not be from Lolth, but The Lord of Magic no doubt smiles on our victory this day..."
Raising up and cleaning his blade, Hadarai sets about searching the room. Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16.
He's also interested in seeing if the altar can be sanctified or just destroyed (Religion Roll? Expend a use of Channel Divinity? )
With his mighty 1 hp and zero surges, Hadarai does his best to look ready for the next battle; ever ready to try and defend his friends.
Hadarai struggles with his desire to help stabilize Akahale and the need to finish this fight... with such a sligth grasp on consciousness himself, he decides to go after the seer and hopefully end this quick.
Challenge/Mark the Seer
Move to the spot NW of the seer (so I'm in both zones, I know it's difficult terrain, but it gives me the +1 defenses).
Ardent Strike vs Seer: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 14 + 1 = 35 vs AC
If hit: 1d8 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + (4) + 8 = 15 CRIT! - booyah! (or the whatever the elven equivalent is): The damage is increased by another 1d6 for the sword: 8 + 4 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ 8 + 4 + 8 + (2) = 22
My Mark (sanction or challenge): -2 to attack and takes 8hp damage if he doesn't include me in an attack.
Current State:
Longsword is Blessed (+1 to hit, +1d6 Radiant, and if the target is vuln. to radiant, crit on 18-20)
HP: 6/78, Surges 0/12, AP 0/2
Enc. Used: All.
Dailies Remaining: Holy Symbol's Power
Hadarai grips his sword and hopes to stay conscious just a bit longer...
Shift SE
Ardent Strike vs Seer: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 14 + 1 = 28 vs AC, if it hits: 1d8 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + (4) + 8 = 18and he's Sanctioned/Marked
My Mark (sanction or challenge): -2 to attack and takes 8hp damage if he doesn't include me in an attack.
Current State:
Longsword is Blessed (+1 to hit, +1d6 Radiant, and if the target is vuln. to radiant, crit on 18-20)

Gah! If I hit the Berserker, he hits us for free... we can't take many of those free hits.
"Let the spellcasters finish this brute, lets take the Seer!"
Being dazed, I can't do much without risking an OA -- I'll just shift and try to get in better position for next turn.
-- Move one square SW (under Graf on the map).
(dazed action = Channel Divinity : Divine Mettle)
Manny, you get to make an immediate save with a +5 bonus -- we need that hand working :)
If we can get that hand on the last berserker, then the rest of us can concentrate on the last Seer. Go Team! :)
Also, Berserker4 isn't marked by me -- I haven't had the actions to keep him marked
Hadarai is back on the verge of unconsciousness after that crit.
If I hit that Berserker, he'll just turn around and wack one of us for free, which doesn't do any of us any good... Ideally we leave him for Manny's Icehand, if possible (it worked well on the last two)
I'd like to get after Seer2 and maybe take him out, but with only one action... I could charge him, but that leaves me open to an OA from the berserker, and with only 6hp left that doesn't seem wise.... grrrr choices.
I think I'll shift away from the berserker, and hope to get one more openning.
Hadarai backs up, hoping to catch his breath long enough to find another openning before blacking out again. I'll move SE
The berserker won't be marked anymore because I shifted away and didn't engage him.

Groggily, "'we have much still to do', got it. Corellon bless us."
Being prone and dazed, I think I can only stand up... But I'm alive for another turn and that's a good thing :)

Dailies Remaining: Holy Symbol's Power
I haven't used my second wind yet, I think it's a DC10 to trigger someone's second wind for them... that might be better than a healing potion (I'd get 20hp rather than 10hp from the potion). And I thin kit would take you the same number of actions -- actually, you might still have your minor left.
Hadarai doesn't want to leave Manny stranded with two berserkers on him...
"I've got you Mandrake. Welcome back to the land of the living!"
(standard) Beckon Foe on Seer2, 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 vs Will,
If it hits: 2d10 + 7 ⇒ (10, 8) + 7 = 25 damage, And Seer2 is pulled 2 squares, I'd like to keep him adjacent to Graf on his NW corner.
(move) Shift 1 square NW, putting me adjacent to B4.
(minor) Challenge/mark Berserker4
---I'm letting my slowing aura fade.
My Mark (sanction or challenge): -2 to attack and takes 8hp damage if he doesn't include me in an attack.
Current State:
Longsword is Blessed (+1 to hit, +1d6 Radiant, and if the target is vuln. to radiant, crit on 18-20)
"Excellent, now we've evened the odds. Great work, keep up the pressure!" Hopefully Manny can keep B3 busy. The rest of us, B4 or S2? S2 should be nearish bloodied, and if we can prevent that dazed attack the better!
Any chance I get an OA on Seer2 for shooting me while next to me?
The berserker's blade that should have dropped Hadarai instead renews his fighting spirit. "Corellon's Sword! Thank the Raven Queen, I'm back in this. We do indeed have the blessings of the Gods, let's finish these creatures."
Yup, that 14 knocks Hadarai out :(
Guess that smile on his face didn't last too long, lol.
For the DM:
Odd.
Hadarai would be no stranger to the agents of the gods. In his mind he would bow his head before this raven.
Can I assume this is a messenger of the Raven Queen based on the information in the link? Religion Check (if necessary): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
"You must be the Raven Queen's spirit come to shepherd me to the lands of the dead. Before I stand with Corellon, please tell your mistress that I was unable to fulfill my vow to return Sir Malagant's remains, but I believe my companions are worthy and may yet finish the task."
"By the gods," Hadarai is shocked, but releaved for his friend. "We have their blessings - these foulspawn don't stand a chance." Whether it was Corellon or not that graced Akahale's return, Hadarai is clearly renewed by the religous experience, and a smile plays at his face for the first time in the combat.
In otherwords, "YAH BABY!"
Fabes, two questions:
1) On that second random attack from B2 (when he rolled a 22), he would be marked at that point, so if he actually targeted Graf, he would take 8damage from my mark.
also
2) Would Hadarai get an OA on Seer2 when he used Distortion Blast, or is it a close blast?
Current health: still standing but getting scarey again - and back to that rotten dazed state :(
HP: 9/78, Surges 1/12
Ah yes, I was hitting B2 not B3, sorry - B2 is bloodied, nice!
Coughnig through the pain, head spinning, "This brute is lagging, take him down!"
"Excellent Serpenthelm!" Yes! That's one more down, and it's only 4v5 now... keep throwing everyone -- let's pick another target and concentrate firepower on it (maybe try ot stay out of melee with those berserkers).
Hadarai shouts to the remaining foulspawn, "Your leader's dead. Now would be a good time to give up or die."
(standard) Flanking B3: Ardent Strike 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 14 + 1 + 2 = 34 vs AC, 1d8 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + (1) + 8 = 15, and B3's sanctioned (marked)
(move) Shift to NE to be adjacent to the Seer but not flanked by it and the Beserker
(minor) Maintian my slowing aura (so S2 is slowed)
My Mark (sanction or challenge): -2 to attack and takes 8hp damage if he doesn't include me in an attack.

Any chance Graf killed Volkanth?
If he didn't, is it better for me to kill Volk (decrease their numbers)or go after B3 while I flank him... of course, Volk is easier to hit now too b/c of Graf's weapon.
Thoughts?
Gonna let loose with my last daily
"Light of Corellon do not fail us!" A crown of golden energy forms over Hadarai and expands to punish his enemies.
Burst 1, targeting enemies: B2, Volkanth, and S2:
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 vs WILL
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28 vs WILL
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 vs WILL
Damage: 2d8 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (8, 1) + (2) + 8 = 19 Radiant damage AND all enemies adjacent to me are slowed. (Enemies that start adjacent to me are slowed TEOMNT) <--- I can sustain this power as a minor action, of course with all this dazing that might not be long, lol.
Current State:
Slowing Aura1 (minor to sustain)

Not Bloodied, but close Save vs Dazed: 1d20 ⇒ 13edit: YAY!... now if only I could be immune to dazing... gonna have to work on that, lol
Using Graf's power, I'll shift SE towards Volkanth and try to knock him down using Ardent Strike (which also marks the target on a hit): 1d6 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18 vs AC.
Using Graf's Knock them Down action with his helm:
Want to make sure I get this right before I post the action.
Normally with his power we'd get a move3 and then a basic melee attack that does no damage but knocks the target prone on a hit.
With his helm power included we get a move3 and then a STANDARD ACTION of our choice. Would it stil knock the target prone on a hit? Does it do damage?
Hadarai's hanging in there... bloodied (again), but hanging in there... thankfully Graf's shield has protected me from the worst of it.
HP: 28/78, Surges: 1/12
Perhaps we should concentrate firepower on Berserker1 and Volkanth (Berserker1 b/c he's bloodied, Volkanth b/c maybe if the leader goes down we'll get some sort of bonus...). Volk's not even bloodied, I'm not sure how close the others are to going down, but maybe we can decrease their numbers so it's not 4vs7... Does anyone have other thoughts?
I've got my last daily that I plan to throw next -- hopefully it will make a dent in a few of them... Anyone have any high explosives? Thermal Detonators? Maybe a mini-Death Star they could pull out? :)
"We'll see who meets their god first, you heathen!" Hadarai jumps up, seemingly no longer winded and slices at the leader.
(Dazed Action) Stand
(Action Point) Invigorating Smite vs Volkanth: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 14 + 1 = 27 vs Will, if it hits I'll spend my sword's daily flame power:
Damage: 2d8 + 8 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 8 + (1) + (6) = 20 Fire/Radiant damage AND if any of us are bloodied we gain 7hp PLUS Volkanth is on fire, taking 5 fire dam. per turn (se).

Oh, and Volkanth isn't marked by me anymore -- He hasn't been for a few rounds -- it only lasted one round and with this dazing I haven't been able to remark him.
Seeing death coming fast for his friends, Hadaria tries to shield the closest as best he can. "You're not out of this that easy, big guy!"
Can I have Hadarai interrupt the attack from Seer1 on Grafire.
My shield allows me:
Power (Daily): Immediate Interrupt. You can use this power when an adjacent ally is hit by an attack. You are hit by the attack instead. The ally is unaffected by the attack. You then gain resistance to all damage equal to half the damage dealt by the attack (if any) until the start of your next turn.
So, the 14 damage Grafire took from the first Seer is on me instead, and I gain resist 7 vs all attacks till the SOMNT.
That should be enough to keep Graf in the fight. At 12hp, but still in the fight :)
And actually helps reduce the damage I'm getting hit with.
Damage for being in the blood rain: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Hadarai only takes 2 damage on the ongoing (he's got DR3 vs Ongoing - Feat)

Question: I know it's a move action to stand, but if I use my teleport, can I stand as part of the teleport or would I appear in my new square laying down?
I took 34 damage last round, I'm not bloodied, just keeping everyone (Grafire) posted.
"Corellon protect us!"
A bright cirlce of symbols and glyphs that spreads out from Hadarai bringing pain to his enemies and a warm protective cloak to his friends.
(one action): Hallowed Circle, targets all enemies in a close burst 3... which I think I count ten :). Each of these is vs REFLEX.
Starting in the top left and going left to right, top to bottom, (is that how it's done?)...
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 4) + 7 = 13 OOOH BABY, some of those are crits!, those would be: 19 + 2d8 ⇒ 19 + (8, 7) = 34!
The effect ALSO CREATES A ZONE of bright light that lasts till the end of the encounter -- all allies gain a +1 to all defenses while in the zone.
"Friends try to stay in the light."
My mark on the tiefling fades. My sanction only lasts one round and I couldn't remark him this round... :(
