Hi-C was adjacent to Handsome when he was hit, so my Guard’s Protection would have triggered: When an ally adjacent to you is damaged by an attack, you can use your reaction to intercede. You take half the damage, and your ally takes the other half. Handsome takes 8, and Hi-C takes 1 after DR.

Hi-C moves to a more central position within the group, to protect as many as possible, and then lunges at the apparition in the wall!

Curve Blade vs KAC: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
Slashing Damage: 1d10 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17

If it tries to damage Handsome again, Hi-C will use Guard's Protection as a reaction (absorbing half damage, reduced by DR); otherwise, if it tries to 5 foot step away, Hi-C will Step Up and Strike:
