The blow was deflected by Gortrek's armor, who glared at the soldier and drew his blade to strike back.

Knowing him on Skype, the only mention I saw from him recently was indicating that Sally Whitemane was the newest character in HotS. Past that, I haven't seen him or his brother online for awhile. I think they may be getting overworked. That, or someone nuked Wisconsin.

As the paralysis finally wore off, Gortrek cracked his neck before turning to the party.

He placed his fist in the flat of his other hand, and bowed. "My sincerest apologies. I am deeply ashamed in my failure to adequately combat these creatures, and to have allowed myself to fall victim to their paralysing ways. I shall not let it happen again."

Gortrek can only helplessly watch as more of his comrade succumb to the paralytic powers of the ghasts.

Paralysis continues.

Pardon my rules lawyering, but having already succeeded on the Fortitude vs. Stench against this particular Ghast, aren't I immune to his particular parfum de homme for 24 hours?

As the claws found their gaps in his armor, Gortrek felt his muscles begin to stiffen.

Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

It was to his eternal shame that he found himself unable to fight off either blow.

Time Paralyzed: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6

Jeeze, sorry I vanished. Had a helluva week. Back and ready to murder-hobo.

Gortrek placed a hand upon his blade. He made his way towards one of the creatures. As the scent began to tickle his nose, he called upon his resolve to power through it.

Move Action: Move towards Blue
Immediate Action:Spend Resolve
Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Shrugging off their foul stench, he drew his blade and struck.

Damage Mayhaps?: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Gortek's AC is currently 12 due to his lack of armor, so one of that troll's hits actually hit for 13 damages.

As the first troll crumbled, Gortrek turned his sights to the others. This time, as he moved towards one, he tried to compensate for his lack of armor's weight on his swing.

Attack on Blue: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Battle had commenced. There was no time to worry about his own safety. The caravan had to be protected. Ameiko had to be protected.

This is mind, he raised his blade and struck.

It would appear, however, that his lack of armor was throwing off his swing.

Not one to let a little thing like no armor stop him from fighting, Gortrek dashed in, taking up a position beside Miyagi.

"We fight as one!"

Full-Round Action: Double move, taking full advantage of the fact that my speed isn't bullocks due to armor.

Awakening quickly, Gortrek arose. Having doffed his armor to sleep, he realized quickly he was doing this without proper prep. This didn't stop him from grabbing his katana.

Two actions to arise and grab his katana.

Losjien, to get a Scroll of Comprehend Languages is only 25 gold, or you can grab a Scroll of Tongues for 200 gold assuming you can find a bard who can make it, or 375 if you must get it from a wizard.

As for the Wand, you can get it for 750 gp, but if I may recommend, if you get 2,250 gold, you can get it advanced to a Wand of Magic Missile(CL 3), which will let you fire 2 missiles with each casting. Gortrek would probably be willing to lend the 400 gp to make up the difference.

Gortrek just has to attempt his Craft[Blades] check, and he's good to go.

Gortrek stood before the forge, blade in hand. There was a long and dangerous trek ahead of them, and his blade had to be prepared to defend Ameiko until the bitter end. Calling upon his honor, he went to work.

Gortrek uses "Honor in All Things".
Craft(Blade): 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 4 = 17

Gortrek listened to the armorer for a moment before extending a hand. "There is much history in this armor. I expect the finest work. I will pay extra to see it done."

"As well, may I request the use of your forge as well? I have something I must do, and I will pay for materials."

Gortrek will pay an extra 150 to make the armour masterwork, and 150 on top for the materials to attempt to make his katana masterwork by his own hand.

Upon their arrival in a new town, Gortrek took a moment for himself. Turning to the caravan, he went to one of the carts and pulled out a large chest.

Resting his hand upon it, he looked up, a flicker of nostalgia in his eyes. Quietly, he opened the chest.

Inside sat an old, battered set of armor unlike anything common in Varisia. Long slats of laquered steel, dulled with age, but still hard to the touch. Upon it all, a helmet sculpted in the face of a creature of fear and awe.

"It's time, grandmother. Your armor shall be restored, and I shall wear it in my duty."

Closing the chest and hefting it, he set out to find a blacksmith in the small village.

Sounds like a plan.

I'd like Gortrek to get his hands on a set of O-Yori armor, but I find it unlikely such a thing would be available in Sandpoint. Is it possible to play a little story magic and say he has his grandmother's old set and that the payment for a full set is instead the cost of having it repaired and fitted? Same price, of course.

As the visions overwhelmed them, Gortrek felt something. He had no words for it, but when the visions ended, he spoke to himself.

"This... This is what grandmother wanted me to know... I must speak with Ameiko."

When they returned, after she spoke, Gortrek raised his hand. He then drew his blade and stabbed into the ground, before kneeling before it.

"For my entire life, my grandmother demanded I keep an eye on you. She did not tell me why. But now, her reasoning is clear."

"Ameiko Amatatsu, I, Gortrek Raijin, do hereby dedicate my life to yours, as my ancestors have done to yours. Your wish is my command. Your morals are my code. Your Honor is my life."

As his sword began to glow, Gortrek once again raised it to strike.

"Anata no teki wa anata no niku o kitte anata no hone o kowashimasu."

I've already acted this round.

Gortrek, less worried about his blade and more worried about the creature before him, relents and shifts his blade towards Losjien.

Rebalancing himself, Gortrek took a deep breath. This creature had to die, and he had to make sure of it. Once again, he struck.

Attack on Tentacles: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 2 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 4 = 14

Noting the creatures resistance, Gortrek closes his eyes for a moment to center himself.

Opening them once more, he shouts. "I challenge you, fiend! I shall see you returned to the pit from which you spawned!"

He then places both hands on his still undrawn sword, and brings about his greatest strike.

Swift Action:Challenge the Tentacle Man.
Full Round Action: Iaijutsu Strike on Tentacle Man.

Attack on Tentacle Man: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

However, it would appear his greatest strike misses its intended target.

"Why does nothing in this bloody pit fight with honor..." Gortrek grumbled to himself as the creature fled, forcing him to once again give chase. The hall into which he followed was narrow, and he was forced to give the creature a shot at him to get close.

Gortrek grunted as, once again, he was left behind. Placing a hand on his blade, but not yet drawing it, he rushed to catch up, doing his best to put himself between the monster and his squishier comrades.

Full round move.

Gortrek cocked an eye. "A true samurai is never far from his blade. I am sorry, but I must refuse your offer, but a true goddess would have nothing to fear."

Gortrek stepped forward, placing his shoulder against the door. "Tahata, Miyagi-san, lend me your strength."

He then took a moment, centered himself, and shoved at the locked door as hard as he could.

After the woman is clothed, Gortrek steps forward, placing a hand on his chest. "Gortrek Raijiin. If you seek to leave this place, I can offer you protection until we arrive at the caravan. While our friend is in most dyer straights, it would be dishonorable to leave someone without protection in a place such as this."

"Though if you would prefer another accompany you, I request you only take one. We must continue our search as soon as possible, and I'm sorry to say we cannot spare additional manpower. Though based on your gear, I suspect you won't need much in the way of additional company."

Just realized I calculated damage wrong. It should be 21.

By this point, Gortrek was angry. Channeling the rage, he raised his blade high and struck as hard as he could.

Gortrek was not pleased with his failed attack, and so he struck again.

Now too focused on saving Ameiko, Gortrek, for once, fails to express displeasure at the enchanted weapon. He strode forward, blade at the ready, and struck.

On another board I am making a mess of my wizard. He multi-classed cleric due to a pretty specific experience. I could almost hear the eye roll from some of the folks I am playing with.

I did something similar with an alchemist. Before variant multiclassing was a thing, I ended up grabbing a single level in gunslinger, simply because he loved explosions and the idea of a metal tube that threw explosions at people tickled his fancy. Even his tumor familiar scorpion in a top hat thought it was kinda dumb.

"Do we know what it is we are searching for down here?"

"A solution," was Gortrek's immediate response. Without even taking time to wipe down his blade, he followed directly behind Kagyu, keeping an eye out for anything.

One under average, so we'll take average.

Stuck at work. I shall level upon my return home this evening.

Unwilling to let himself be stopped by anything at this point, Gortrek dodge and deflected every blow with his armor before returning to attack in kind, swinging at the same one he had attacked prior.

The sounds of battle where around him. But at this point, it was the beating of his heart in his ears that drowned things out.

He took a deep breath. He had to remain calm. To lose control was to lose everything. Channel your anger. Let it be your blade.

He rushed in, drawing his blade, and swung.

I hope my latest post doesn't come across as anger or forceful. I just figured it would be more in character. Feel free to ignore the outburst or simply stop him. My apologies if it bothers anyone.

As Gortrek looked back in the direction of the stairs, it was taking every ounce of his discipline to not rush on ahead without the others.

"Before we go below I want to trace the picture of the castle hanging on the floor below us as well."

This proved to be the final straw.

"Excuse me, but you want to hold off on helping our companion so you can draw a picture? Ameiko lies sickened by forces beyond our understanding, and rather than search the final location it may be, you want to sketch a castle?"

Gortrek placed his hand on his sheathed blade. "I will not force you to act with honor if you do not wish it. But I refuse to wait any longer while danger hovers over our friends head. If you wish to stay behind, so beit, but those who wish to do honor to the Kaijitsu name, follow me!"

Regardless of whether or not anyone listened, he began to make his way towards the stairs down.

Gortrek continued his attempts to strike down the creature before it could bring more harm upon the group.

Gortrek felt the dark energy enter his body, but he grit his teeth and held it back. It was clear who the true threat in the room was at this point, and Gortrek made his way towards him.

Gortrek gritted his teeth as the sound pierced his skull, but he managed to hold himself together. Stepping forward, he drew his katana and struck at one of the corbies.

Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

"If the source of Ameiko's illness lies within the castle walls, we should head there immediatly. The lighthouse is of secondary concern and can wait until she is no longer in danger."

Gortrek stood before the creature. "We have already been inside, and slain many corbies. We seek a secret within the castle's walls that is connected to a traveling companion of ours. She has fallen gravely ill, and our magic and medicine seem unable to do anything."

"Now, what is it you seek our aid in? You would not be appraising us if you had no use for us."

"Grandmother wish for you to stand guard over all unconscious ladies or just Ameiko?" The monk asked before drinking a bit of booze from his bottle.

Without hesitation, Gortrek responded. "Ameiko. By name. She never told me why."

Looking back up he continued. "She told me that when I grew up, I was to always look after her. She was the one who trained me in the art of the blade. I suspect it was for such an event as this."

I mentioned in the previous post that he would rest when capable so he was prepared for tomorrow.

On his way to the central fire pit, he spotted his comrade Gortrek standing with stoicism in front of where presumably Ameiko was resting whilst comatose. "Watch going well, Gortrek-dono?" The monk asked as he approached, almost tripping over a stray rock before catching himself.

Gortrek looked at Miyagi as he approached, his arms crossed as he stood. "As well as can be expected. Someone has to guard her. It must be me."

He glanced down. "It's what grandmother would have wanted."

Upon their return, Gortrek made his way to the unconscious Ameiko. With stern and stoic bravado, he stood, acting as her guard.

If anyone wants to interact with Gortrek, go right ahead. If not, assume he rests when he can so he's prepared for the next assault.

Gortrek grumbled. He was not built for long range combat. As the remaining corbie fled, he decided to leave the flying creatures to his comrades.

After quickly jogging after, he shouted. "Modotte meiyode watashi ni chokumen shi tari, nigete eien ni okubyōmono no burando ni narimasu!"

Intimidate to Call Out: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Accepting any attacks that the corbie would swing at him, Gortrek joined the fray, drawing his blade and striking.

Gortrek heard the remarks of his comrades. He quickly moved towards the sound of impending battle.
