Does anyone have a link to James Jacobs Previous explanation as explained above?

I tried to find it to no avail.

It all depends on where that arrow hit really. If a person got shot in, say the shoulder, it won't really do all the much more damage coming out. Realistically, that shoulder would already be damaged enough as it is, and unless he arrow was barbed, it would probably come right out. Doesn't mean it won't hurt like hell though.

Now if it were someplace else, like the stomach, that's a different story. There's lots of squishy bits in the stomach region, from intestines, to kidneys. They may have not been damaged going in, but coming out, you could tear them and start internal bleeding that would kill you.

Me? If this came up in my game? I'd say it was a move action to remove it carefully, taking 1d4 points of nonlethal damage (the pain). If they want to remove it quickly, 1d4 points of lethal damage (from additional tearing).

[Edit] If it matters, I think James Jacobs said that if you cast a spell such as light, or silence on an object, and then that object is cut in half, the spell is ended. If you went with that method, you could just reach up and break the arrow off at the entry point, and end the silence spell.

Interesting on the arrow breaking in half, The problem is they specify they are casting it on the Arrow "tip" or "head". I was thinking the same thing along the damage lines, something generic to accommodate all situations.

Hey everyone,

I am wondering on some opinions on removing arrows after they have impacted the target dealing "hit" point damage. Would is be a move action/Standard action to remove the arrow? Would it cause any damage? (This would be occurring during combat).

The reason I ask is because silence is being cast on arrows and constantly shutting down spell casters because they are firing the arrow on subsequent rounds at the spell caster(s), silencing them. Now, obviously the spell caster is not going to start attack with a dagger, and of course, I could include feats such a Metamagic Silence, but what other solutions are there? How would other GM/s rule this?

Is there any fan made material such as maps, court scene interaction/drama, or information to enhance the game for Adventure 2? If there are websites or anything of the such please post links.

Thank you

Cosmo,

I just received an email that says both items have been shipped...

Paizo Order #1752079:

A package containing 2 items from Paizo Order #1752079 is expected to ship from the Paizo warehouse by Friday, July 29 via Standard Postal Delivery, estimated 4 to 8 business days in transit.

The following products are included in this shipment:
1 x Pathfinder Adventure Path #48: Shadows of Gallowspire (Carrion Crown 6 of 6) (PFRPG) Print Edition
1 x Pathfinder Adventure Path #49: The Brinewall Legacy (Jade Regent 1 of 6) (PFRPG) Print Edition

I thought the second book was canceled? I received the email today (7/27/11) at 7:00 PM.

I do not want both of these items:
This order contains the following items:
1 x Pathfinder Adventure Path #48: Shadows of Gallowspire (Carrion Crown 6 of 6) (PFRPG) Print Edition (preorder) @ 13.99 = $13.99
1 x Pathfinder Adventure Path #49: The Brinewall Legacy (Jade Regent 1 of 6) (PFRPG) (preorder) @ 13.99 = $13.99

If it is not possible to get just the Shadows of Gallowspire then please cancel both orders. Either way, I need to cancel my subscription because I am leaving for a few months and only need book 6. If I can get book 6 only, then please process and then cancel subscription, if I require both, then cancel entire order.

Thank you

YEAH FULL CASTERS SUCK! Lets all play fourth Edition DND!

"From about 3rd to 10th level, blasters are definitely competitive. Elf Evoker dealing 8d6+10 (ave 38) with scorching ray, or 10d6+10 (ave 45) with fireball; Half-Orc Sorcerer dealing 8d6+15 (ave 43) with scorching ray, 10d6+15 (ave 50) with fireball, and he does it as a standard action at range."

Where does the 10d6 + 10 come from? Would it not be 10d6 + 5 for a 10th level elf evoker?

Anymore Players interested?

I will also join a group a a player if there is an opening.

There must be players in this extremely large city next to me!!

Pathfinder Players,

You have been summoned to answer the call of Pathfinder RPG! I am in need of more players in the region of Springfield, MA (I live in West Springfield). I am looking for an additional Pathfinder player who enjoys the game on many different levels from Role-playing, combat, and just hanging out with like minded people!

Send me or email at brodeur911@hotmail.com or simply post here and we will be in touch!

Heed the call my gaming friends!

Interesting topic.

I think it would be enjoyable if thats how the party wanted to play and defeating a deity could definitly make for a great adventure but only if constructed correctly. It gets difficult to run encounters when you are in epic levels such as level 30 characters.

Unless you were extremely high level, it seems unlikely to defeat a deity unless you were basically deities yourself.

I always thought you looked at items of similar power which would be the boots of speed in this case.

Did you jump directly to step two in item creation rules? (Consult Chart)

Did you skip step 1? (Items of similar power)

maybe changing the 8th level to: 1/3 your favored enemy bonus for your threat range.
16th level is 1/2 bonus to threat range.

At 12th level, you increase the critical multiplier of your weapon by 1 against your favored enemy. At 16th level, you increase the threat range of your weapon by your favored enemy bonus against your favored enemies. None of these abilities stack with the Improved Critical feat, keen weapon enhancement, or any other effect that affects the threat range or critical multiplier of a weapon.

Hey,

I am looking at magic item creation and one item that I want to get a cost of creating is Boots of Displacement. They would effectively be the same as boots of speed (10 rounds a day, click heels to activate, same spell level, etc.). When creating the item would you use the same base cost as the boots but change the spell of creation to be the appropriate illusion spell in this case?

So boots of displacement as mentioned above would have a base cost of 12,000 GP?

Thanks

This is pretty cool idea SmiloDan. I just wonder if the 8th level and 16th level ability become to powerful. at 16th level you could have a +8 bonus, meaning your thread range for a 20 thread range would be 12-20 against your favored enemy? Am I reading your thought correctly?

Don't come in my house *&#*#, That made me laugh. Nothing in particular that I was thinking of buffing, just trying to think of some ideas that would work well for a Ranger that is scaled appropriately so it is not to powerful or to weak.

Trying to think of some new concepts to replace the Hunters Bond.

The other two seem timid.

Do you have the APG?

I think something you would want to check out is the infiltrator, it replaces hunters bond and allows you to emulate some of your favored enemies (such as things like darkvision, bonuses to AC, resistances) over short periods of time.

If you dont have it or do and dont care for it then

If you are going to boost FE I would make it do something particularly cool on your favored terrain. Call it "Dont come in my house b%%#!" haha

Give them the ability to do some extraordinary thing in a given circumstance.

just an example.

Anything in particular you wanted to buff?

Hey Everyone,

Please do not start a debate about how useful or useless the current version of Hunter's Bond is. My objective is to get a list of suggestions that can be a alternative replacement of equal power at 4th level.

Here are some I have come up with and I would like to see what other people have for suggestions and comments please.

1) Two additional knowledge class skills and 2 skills points per level that have to be knowledge based. (This is based on my character history of being a pathfinder society member. His education at Absalom gives his the additional knowledge)

2) One Additional favored Enemy at 4th level, total bonus at 5th level cannot be higher than +4, so you would have at 5th level, +4,+4,+2.

3) Grouping some of the humanoid types together or outsiders. You pick three and the bonus applies to the entire group you picked. For example, I picked Humans,Elves, and Orcs (all humanoid category and my bonus applies to all equally), or the same thing with outsiders.

Those are a few I have thought of. Please leave comments and additional options you think could be considered as replacements that are of equal caliber to the animal companion they have access to.

Sorry wraithStrike, did not get to check the post again until now.

I see many good points. I also did not want to come across as bashing 4th Edition. I have played 4th edition and there were features that I did like but it seemed that every step forward they took 3 steps back (to me at least).

I also know that when people post on these issues it rarely comes across in an actual game session. I have play wizards and can I was definitely not prepared for every encounter, in fact very few encounters I am typically completely prepared for when I play casters.

When I play a fighter now however, I think they are a great martial class compared to what was offered in the past. I think they have been scaled up very well and I tend to play melee classes in general more. Maybe it is always that sense of wonder when you get those new spells every two levels.

I always like the idea of being able to develop my fighter through feats because you get such a large amount. I can increase my saving throws, archery abilities, or any number of options depending on how you want to go.

I was just wondering on what other peoples thoughts/opinions were on the issue and I have read your posts and they give me a better perspective.

I like this state you made Oliver because I typically have a similar attitude. It is about the benefit of the group (or team) and how to develop the plot as a team. I see how it is becoming more about ME ME ME, make my character the most powerful type of mentality.

I agree, should be about the Team.

There is balance in the classes from the standpoint that a wizard/sorcerer cannot pick up a sword and go around cleaving creatures down (very efficiently anyways). In my last game session a fifth level fighter landed a critical hit for 76 damage, a wizard cannot land such a blow at that level. It seems there is a good balance and it depends on what you like to play. Balance is inevitably skewed towards sameness. 4th Edition classes are balanced but they are not the same in every way but playing it sure made me feel like they were.

How far have you gotten into Legacy of Fire? I really wanted to play it but it'd be a bit disappointing to start at the end. I'm open to Kingmaker though you should know that I just started playing in a pbp game here. It's not my preferred method of play but given my lack of success in finding a group out here for the last couple of years I decided that some gaming was better than none.

I'm not a rules lawyer type of player, though I do tend to focus on getting in character when playing. I've been playing D&D in one version or another for roughly 20 years but I've not yet been able to play Pathfinder at a table yet.

Anyway, if you're interested in discussing it some more, feel free to shoot me an email to wanderweir at yahoo. I'm definitely interested in seeing if something could be worked out.

Hey Wander Weir,

I am in the processing of moving as I have taking an engineering position in West Springfield. We were thinking of playing once a month, probably start up again at the beginning of October (first week) as I have quite a bit of work in moving. There will be times I will travel to Claremont, NH, and others where the guys will come down to West Springfield. Like I said, we are thinking of doing it on a monthly basis on Friday Night and Saturday.

I typically GM the game and we use Pathfinder rules with a few minor house rules. I am currently running Legacy of Fire and most likely Kingmaker next. Let me know what you think and maybe we can talk at some point to see what we are looking for in gaming.

As a group we are very relaxed and just enjoy playing the game. We do not argue about the rules and typically if we are unsure of a rule we will research it after the gaming session. Two of us have been gaming for about 8 years , one is rather new but as been playing for about a year. The fourth gamer is unable to play with us anymore.

Let me know what you think.

Greetings,

Looking for players in western Massachusetts. I am located in west Springfield, so anyone in Springfield, Holyoke, Westfield, and so on. I am currently GMing Legacy of Fire and would like to pick up a few players who would like to join as players. I typically travel to southern New Hampshire to play as well. I am also willing to play if someone else is GMing a Pathfinder game.

I will check back here or leave me a private message. I hope there are some players in western Mass!

Hey everyone,

I have read the rules for crafting items as my PC has taken craft wondrous items. I am a fifth level caster and I want to craft a headband of vast intelligence +2. The CL is listed as 8 while the requirements are Fox's Cunning, and 2000 gold pieces. This would take two days to create.

The DC to create the magic item would be 5 + 8 or 13. Now is it correct that I can craft this item or does your caster level actually have to be 8? On pages 548-550 I do not see any mention that this is the case with the exception of crafting magic weapons and armor where you have to have a caster level 3 times the enhancement bonus.

--Thanks

If you are running a private campaign, why not allow the total bonus to exceed the cap at +10. I would allow this for arcane archers personally and I do anyways. I see no problems with it so far. The cap does seem wrong with the AA and paladin but I did not even realize it until I read this post. Still, I will allow my players to ignore this. Of course if you have a rules monger in your group.... well find a new group. I always enjoy playing than debating rules.

Also, can't artifacts have a higher than +10 bonus? I know I had seen some with a +6 and +7 enhancement bonus without adding special qualities into it. Of course, these are at much higher levels and probably beyond 20 or near 20.

Cheers

Hey,

Read all of your thoughts on this and it gave me a lot of perspective. I know I could change the encounters to make everything more difficult depending on how the party is playing and I do this often. I also discussed all this with the player. We are best friends anyways so there was no problem. I would never just nerf a character without the option to re-roll or something like this. My big problems is with abilities that are just spammed over and over again and sleep hex is a good culprit for being used this way. Of course many creatures are immune to sleep and in some campaigns sleep is useless (undead campaign for example) but I am not playing a campaign like this. Limiting it to HD does under power it so we have changed it to uses per day or 3 + int which is what the player wanted.

By the way there are three players, and they have higher stats, about 80 stat points each. We do not do point buy typically. They are also higher level because they receive more EXP for being down a character.

Thanks everyone

Sorry the DM starts not playing by the rules I follow suit, "Sorry it would be more heroic and climatic for the boss to NOT kill me this round and me to Critical with every swing instead."

Damn Jimmy just got stabbed...

I see where you are coming from Paris and Ken. I did allow it for the first book of LoF but the problem was what Fergie has commented on. Many of the boss fights that were suppose to be difficult came dwon to a will save and many of the enemies had barely no will save. This made many of the encounters easier. I adjusted accordingly but it was ruining many encounters. My option to the player was the following:

Can only sleep a creature of equal HD or less.
Ability remains that same but is only usable 2 + int times per day.
The last option was that if function like the sleep spell in all ways.

I did change the dynamics of many encounters to limit how effective it would be during the first book of the adventure. Doing this also changes the usefulness of the spell anyways so I gave the player the option on what he wanted to do instead of being a dink about it.

Just read Abrahams post. I am inclined to agree with you and maybe I will think further on this. My problem was constantly spamming the ability. It would be like giving the wizards infinite magic missiles or something usable only once per target. I also had to limit detect magic because all casters would just use it ridiculously. Maybe I will change it to uses per day.

Thanks for the input.

Hey everyone.

I am running legacy of Fire and one of the players wanted to play the witch from the advanced Players Guide final play test. I restricted the sleep hex ability to only be able to affect targets that are equal to the characters HD or lower. The ability still scales in power with level in both DC and creatures it is able to affect.

Am I being fair as a DM?

Not so worried about the errata as I read them when I need to. Just wondering about any changes that has been made to the quality of the hard cover books. It is highly possible I got a s#+*ty core rulebook and I doubt a refund would occur so late now. I can just hold off and wait to see what is going on with changes. I love the game and have always enjoyed 3.0 and 3.5 DND and the new Pathfinder is great. I am also more than willing to continue to support the great writing of the products but I just do not want my books falling apart.

I will check back in a few months to see what is going on here.

-Thanks

Hey everyone,

My friend has wanted to order the core rule book but I have had him hold off until newer editions of the book were printed simply by showing him my book. Mostly due to the quality of the hardcover books. My main disappointment was with the binding on the core rule book and a smaller point was the entire cover is basically pretty s@#$ty quality. Seems to just peal off on both the core rulebook and monster compendium. Other than that I like the books. Page quality, ink quality, and overall writing is great. I have also not invested in any books recently hoping that the books are printed with more quality.

The soft cover books seem to be fine which is amusing to me because I like books that are typically larger hard cover books like the 3.5 books. It is amusing because I hate the pathfinder hardcore books right now. I was just wondering what changes have been made in the past year if any.

--Thanks

Hello,

I do not have the core rulebook in front of me so it may be clarified in the spell rule for haste. If you haste a creature with 2 claw attacks, and a bit attack, does he get an extra attack with the claw or either or? Again, I do not have the core book in front of me so it may be clarified in the rules description.

Also, If your base attack bonus is +6, enough for a second attack, can you add the bite attack with your 2 claw attacks. For example, you have the 2 claw attacks and a higher base attack bonus does not increase your amount of claw attacks but adds more natural attacks. So would your attacks be 2 claws +6, and a bite +6. Is the bite considered a primary attack with the 2 claws? I ask because I remember reading that the additional attack (bite in this case) would suffer a -5 to hit giving you 2 claws +6, and a bite at +1. I read something on the forums that said you do not suffer the -5 penalty to the bite attack because it is a primary attack as well but all other natural attacks like hooves are secondary attacks and suffer the penalty.

The last questions, are the claw attacks bonus damage from strength just added from the modifier, and the bite attack is 1.5 str.

--Thanks

Crimety crickets! No high level books even in 2011!!!!! I hope you start making more hard covered books as well with like 128 - 150 pages instead of the small 64 page books.

I know people have been finding errors akimbo with the Bestiary, and I cant help but agree with almost everything thats been said.

I still know theyre going to do another run, hopefully with the fixes in it. Still...I shelled out good coin for advanced copies of both the Core Rulebook and the Bestiary, and I hope to god that the Advanced Players Guide and Gamesmastering Guide is going to be largely free from this problem of sorts.

Then theres contradictary rules (for instance,Spellike Abilities seem to be a condtradictory element, see what Pages 221 and 554 say, both say pretty different statements about how they work with regards to Counterspelling and thusly, can they be identified by Spellcraft?)

Then theres seemingly intentional changing of the wording of spells like Entangle which according to the RAW, only now affects opponents in the area and not anyone else - the spell doesnt grant the animated plants any kind of intelligence and the Druid cannot control the plants....then take into account how Black Tentacles sort of goes down this road as well, but throughout it, the terms "foe" and "creature" are interchangeable...that needs a huge clarification.

Now...I am a huge fan of Paizo and I largely love the system, having graduated from old school 2nd Edition Planescapes, to 3.0 and then in time 3.5. I tried my hand at 4E but it was designed for speed and combat heavy...more or less WoW on paper. And then Pathfinder came, I got the BETA playtest and began using it, and my players loved the changes.

While as the GM, I handle in game arguements that erupt, these 'misspelt' entries for spells and other abilities, etc are causing me fresh headaches however, and I find myself going back to the 3.5 wording for much of it.
I hope Paizo wont forget us customers who shelled out good coin to get the hardcovers, I'll be getting the new prints when they're finally released in dead tree form but I cant help but feel a little well...disgruntled.
But...

Well.. Seeing this book was a lot of copy/paste work the editing should have been better. Yeah there was some original design which was enjoyable but overall ... pretty bad job for $50. Also, whats up with the cheesy peel off cover or whatever that is? Really? Stop printing stuff in China or get a better printer. I like the game but I will not support this if continued.

This must be some kind if ploy to get me to buy a new book because the first edition is of much lower quality than I expected and I personally told my players to wait until things improve before purchasing but use a PDF which sucks but I had a copy.

Also, the United States is pretty much going down the tube. Mine as well openly admit that. Bankruptcy will ultimately destroy this country and seeing congress has always been so good at spending... We should pass some more social programs while we are at it and just hurry up and bankrupt the country. No need to bleed it out for years and decades.

Alright. First of all "those dead people" fought for the country you have today. Second: Would it not be funny if they taxed Paizo out of business. Followed by Eric Mona to post that Obama is very intelligent because he was able to pass healthcare reform with a super majority in congress and the public against it.

The bill overall is a joke. There are some positive aspects in it, say about 100 pages. Throw the other 2600 away. I hope you all get your taxes raised, unemployment continues to rise, and you get fined for not purchasing health insurance. That would be amusing as well.

Say no to this new health care bill. Enough said.
