Rod air walks to Q-R-13-14 and channels positive energy to heal, using selective channelling to exclude enemies in the burst. It should heal Rod, LB, Hal, Kaz, Gil. Healing: 6d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 4, 1, 2) = 17

Yes he does benefit from the healing (And had taken damage) ... yeah, I thought I was going to get him into melee, hence the righteous might, that hasn't really panned out. and I completely forgot about the spiritual weapon - if I get a spare move action I'll target someone, should have done it last round.

Rod moves up to S-T-15-16, gaining altitude to 15 feet, staying at least 15 feet away (vertical and/or horizontal) from W1. He’ll then channel positive energy to exclude W1 and W5 from the effect. I don’t think any other visible enemies are in it, but he’ll exclude W3 too if he’s still standing and just within the radius (I think he’s just outside). Haladon, LB and Kaz will all benefit from the healing. Healing: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1) = 19

Rodergo airwalks to R / S / 18 / 19 (staying 10 feet above the ground) and casts Flame Strike centred at grid intersection U / V / 7 / 8. This should hit W3, W4, Darkheart and the dragon but miss LB. damage: 11d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 6, 4, 3, 4, 4, 5, 4, 4) = 45 DC 20 Reflex save for half. Rodergo airwalks over the glass barricade just beside his whirling barrier of blades, lowering his altitude to hover just above the remains of the destroyed catapult (move to O10, P10, O11, P12 as single move thanks to haste, altitude as low as possible above broken catapult but minimum of 5 feet above the ground), hoping that his relatively low height will shield him from archers within or behind the blade barrier and make him a less obvious target for the arcane ballista. He casts a minor spell as he moves, a silver bow and arrow appearing in the air to fire shimmering bolts at one of the enemy warforged. Spiritual weapon targets warforged W22. attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29 damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Rodergo will cast a circular blade barrier centred on grid intersection I/J/13/14; it will have a 25 foot radius. This should contain W10, W11, W12, W13, W14, W15, and W16. It will either contain or chop through W17, W2 and W3 and might chop W1 (GM call). I note that the blade barrier will also pass through the catapult’s square and the glass wall. I will leave it up to the GM as how a wall of whirling blades of pure force interacts with these elements. damage: 11d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 5, 6, 6, 3, 5, 5, 1, 4) = 45; DC 21 Reflex save for half if they try to pass through or avoid damage on successful save if the wall appears in their square. Rod then moves (airwalks) to P/Q/10/11 staying 25 feet up in the air at this point.

Rodergo will be remaining near the entry of the tent, ready to spring into action when required init for when it is required: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10, along with Selkatiri, Faith and 773. Have we previously established how many actions / people it takes to set up the tent? One thing to keep in mind is that we may not want to set up the tent here in the courtyard, where it might be exposed to enemy attack. Might be best to set it up further inside the fortification, then have the warforged fall back to it in a fighting retreat if necessary. Another thing to keep in mind is that the warforged defenders here might consider us enemies, at least until LB comes onto the scene to identify us. Attack the living spell probably demonstrates our intentions pretty well, but it may be worthwhile for Gil to call out and reassure the defenders.

We probably need a Knowledge Arcana or spellcarft check to determine what the blob is, and whether it will be affected by a blade barrier. It's probably a living spell of some sort, I don't know what we know in-character about the properties of such things.

“Praise the Flame – we would welcome your help Faith,” says Rodergo. “When we last saw Lightbringer he had given himself up as a captive of the Lord of Blades and the warforged called Darkheart, in the Mournlands. Based on the scrying we have just undertaken, it seems as if he has somehow escaped that situation but is now under siege along with a small group of warforged allies … that possibly he has converted to worship of the Flame?” The cleric turns to the others. “We had planned a quick rescue; teleport in, grab Lightbringer, teleport out. I … strongly suspect that will now not be possible, given the situation Lightbringer is in. With our other priorities, we can’t afford to sit out a protracted siege, but I highly doubt Lightbringer will leave with us if he leaves friends in danger. He’s that sort of paladin … see to his friends first, save the world second. However, we will have the drop on his enemies – we need to turn the tables, break the siege.”

“Praying with other warforged?” Rodergo looks surprised. “Well, I trust he has found converts to the Flame, rather than having been converted to the worship of the Lord of Blades or something … well, anyway, I can cast my Sending, it’ll take about ten minutes to set up. I can send a message of up to 25 words, and he’ll be able to reply in kind. What about: ‘Lightbringer, its me, Rodergo. We’re coming to rescue you shortly. What’s your location and situation? You can reply briefly to this sending.’ – Sound okay?” Assuming there are no other suggestions on a message, Rodergo rolls up his sleeves and spends the next ten minutes praying, weaving his sending spell.

Rod waits patiently, not wishing to break Ezreal’s concentration, until the mage speaks or otherwise indicates that the others may. “Well,” he asks, “what do you see? I didn’t hear any talking – were you unable to communicate with our warforged friend. Does it look safe for me to try the sending?”

“Your plan sounds grand Ezreal, but my learned colleague Kazadar raises a good point,” says Rodergo, “although I am not entirely clear on the specifics of his solution …” Good point. If Ez dies, we can’t retrieve the chest … however, unless his body / spirit is completely lost to us we should always be able to bring him back via raise dead and similar, so the scenario of being unable to retrieve the chest for that reason is unlikely. I’m not 100% sure what Kazadar’s solution entails or what it will achieve, except it gives a way to bring the replica with us (or leave it somewhere) in a hidden fashion – is there more to it than that (I may be missing the obvious)? If someone else gets hold of the replica it stops us from retrieving the true chest but it doesn’t give them the means to do so. Would it be safer to leave it at a Kundarak facility as Ez suggests with several party members (but not Ez) given the authority to retrieve it? Would the Inspired have the means to easily storm a Kundarak facility or otherwise retrieve something we stored there?

Rodergo goes off to find the temple’s master of ceremonies and returns with a set of ornate prayer beads and various rare and expensive oils, powders and aromatic incense. “Come Haladon,” he says. “We must ask the Silver Flame for forgiveness.” He and Haldon find an unoccupied chapel. Rodergo arranges the offerings in a brazier, then, reciting holy litanies whilst holding the prayer beads, he lights the brazier. One of the powders reacts to turn the flames that flare up towards the ceiling silver. Rodergo stares into the flames, continuing to chant his litanies, soon entering a trance-like state, as Haladon does the same. The pair feel a presence – The Silver Flame. “Oh holy Flame, we entreat forgiveness for your servant Haladon,” Rodergo chants. “Forgive his transgressions and grant him the focus to once again be your servant and play his part in ridding Eberron of evil.”

Do you think its worth trying to secure the services of a planar ally for the mission to get LB? Rod may be able to call on an angel or archon dedicated to the Silver Flame, possibly at reduced cost if our intentions gelled with its (rescuing a follower of the Flame). Some possibilities would be Movanic Deva, Shield Archon or 2 Hound Archons.

“Goodness … I … hadn’t considered the implications of bringing the shards into the Mournlands – potentially giving the Lord of Blades access to them. If … if we did go into the Mournlands we’d need a way to keep them very secure. I’m sure it would be almost as bad for Khorvaire if the Lord of Blades got them as if the Inspired did,” Rodergo says. “You know where I stand regarding Lightbringer. I’d be willing to concede to Janosz’ point about priorities and make that the next task after saving the world, but I think Ezreal’s prophetic dream puts things in a new light … not to mention that he seems to have a plan – or part of a plan – to do this relatively quickly and safely. So I vote for the Mournlands and Lightbringer – if we can find a way to ensure the shards stay secure during such a mission.” “Now, as for sleeping and dreaming … well, if its just one night we need to concern ourselves with, I have a solution; don’t sleep. I’m sure we can all stay awake for a night, in the morning Kazadar and I can cast spells to remove everyone’s fatigue.”

“I think we should ensure that Gil’s protective spell is in place before we discuss specifics,” warns Rodergo. When (and if) Ezreal or Havakhad explain that the Inspired may be mining their dreams for information, Rodergo nods. “Well, that makes sense I suppose,” he says. “Still, dreams can be incoherent, I still think it’s a good idea to protect ourselves against scrying in case they seek more specific information. Is there any way we can learn to control our dreams so as not to give anything away?” Once that has been dealt with, Rodergo continues to respond to Janosz. “I suggested a rescue of Lightbringer primarily as an appropriate way to help Haladon atone – not to mention getting our friend back – and I still think it appropriate. I do take your point – and Lady Aris’s – that we may have greater priorities at the moment, though I would consider that Lightbringer may be a great asset in our current quest. Let’s face it, we got truly kicked by those unfriendly blue giants the first time around, and had help the second. We’ll do better now that we know what to expect and with Haladon suited up, but still … Anyway, I’ll bow to the group consensus on this matter. And yes, how we get to Adar is the trick. I assume a ship or airship of some type will be required at some point? I must admit, I’m not entirely conversant on the geography – or direction, or distance – between here and there …”

Once their interview with Lady Aris is over, Rodergo returns to the quarters where they have been staying and summarises the meeting (within the tent, so as to reduce the possibility of eavesdroppers). “I’ve been ruminating over poor Lightbringer stuck there in the Mournlands; apart from whatever he might be going through, he’d be an asset to us in this whole dragonshard thing; we got clobbered by those Horned Legion fellows once and almost twice – I was feeling quite clobbered at any rate – it wouldn’t hurt to have another warrior type we know we can trust … so it occurred to me to suggest rescuing Lightbringer could form part of Haladon’s atonement in the eyes of the church. Well, Lady Aris seemed to disagree … that whole pesky business of our warforged friend not being recognised as part of the church hierarchy … not to mention the business of him being warforged. Anyhoo, I managed to forestall any official orders not to pursue that path anyway should we so choose, and Haladon here made no binding promises – see, I said I’d help you stay paladiny, you’re welcome. I’m sure Lady Aris is wise enough to realise I haven’t abandoned the idea, so I take the fact that she didn’t actually order us not to as tacit consent … so what do you all think? Do we go back for Lightbringer first, or head straight to Adar? Certainly a detour to the Mournlands will not be expected by our enemies, and puts us somewhat off the map, but it does add a considerable delay to actually getting these Dragonshards back where I guess they should be.”

Rod could probably use this if no one else wants it; he normally has a +3 resistance bonus as his domain power, but can transfer this to others, so having the cloak gives him a backup. Rodergo thinks it probably wise not to speak further. He bows low and withdraws once given leave to. “Well, that might have gone better – or worse,” he comments to Haladon once they have some privacy. “I’m in charge of your rehabilitation and the details of your atonement … well, I’ve some ideas. Anyway, it appears to me that the Silver Flame has seen fit to restore you to full paladin power-hood, but an atonement ritual is a good idea in case theres any lingering ‘Rolundishness’ in there. We Flamittes can’t just go about rescuing every poor soul who may be in trouble now can we? Much as we may wish to … we need to prioritise what is most important – I do see that, much as my heart may sometimes speak to me otherwise. At any rate, we must respect the wisdom of Lady Aris. Vast wisdom…” Rodergo turns from Rolund and bows deeply to Lady Aris. “Most Consecrated, is my interpretation of your words correct, that participation in and success in our current quest – to help the kalashtar and save the world – at any cost – will be sufficient atonement for Sir Haladon’s past sins? Then we’d best get started as soon as the question of arms and armour is resolved. Of course, our mission must remain very secret, low key, so as not to attract the attention of the enemy … we’ll likely need to disappear for a while, and may need to consort at times with some unsavoury types, rogues and scoundrels, of this I’ve no doubt. Save the world, that type of thing … but, if I were to think of a quest of atonement for Haladon … something that related to him personally, something that benefited the faith, a quest of redemption … to save a life, balanced somewhat against a life lost … Well. Some week back, our companion the stalwart warforged Lightbringer – you remember him of course Lady Aris? – Well, he gave himself up as a captive to the Lord of Blades in the Mournlands, so as to enable the rest of us to escape. Perhaps freeing him from captivity (or at least retrieving his remains if the worst has occurred) would be a suitable quest of atonement?”
