Dexter looks frustrated, then calm as a plan pops into his head.

He steps up to the gate, ”Sergeant, what we need from you is simple. Help making sure all the civilians have a safe place out here while we deal with the chaos inside. Can you do that for us? Please?”

Are we... out of combat? Is Azelmak down? It looked like he took enough damage to take him into negatives and then he took more damage? Dexter's spell didn't happen until after the initial attack so I am a little confused. Was that first attack negated/retconned?

If the undominated rhino is down, Dexter looks around for a big enough cage to put his dominated rhino in before the spell ends.

Dexter watches as his opportunity to avoid one unnecessary animal death starts to slip away, but he isn’t out of tricks yet.

He focuses and casts another spell, ”No, don’t attack my friends. Attack the other rhino.”

Cast Dominate Animal on Blue, DC 17 Will Save, failure gives control for 6 rounds.

The gnome pleads with his allies, ”Focus on the injured one first, my spell might work on the other.”

He pulls a wand (CLW) out in case things start getting even worse.

Dexter moves away from the group and cranks up the charm, ”Easy now. Easy. This isn’t the place for you. Let me help get you back home, ok?”

Using the third and last checkbox of the following boon for this adventure.

Piercing the Veil:
You have seen the deceptions that the powerful hide behind and have broken through them, restoring truth to the Society’s history and vindicating the unjustly persecuted former Pathfinder Eylysia. At the start of any adventure, you may check a box next to this boon to gain a +1 bonus on all Perception and Sense Motive checks, as well as all Will saving throws made to resist or disbelieve illusions, for the duration of the adventure.

Dexter quickly replies to their guide, ”I’ll head over there with you ma’am, should be interesting.”

Upon arrival he sits back and relaxes, enjoying all the contestant’s efforts. Until one of them bites off more than they can chew. The wrong motion, the wrong word, the wrong attitude, whatever it was, the inexperienced agent just pissed off a wolf. As the creature snarles and snaps, preparing to pounce, the small gnome bolts from his seat. Sprinting into position to distract, he pulls the wolf’s attention to him and then easily calms the creature.

Thank you very much for explaining in detail the success and failure conditions. This is quite a tough scenario. Really only two fights unless you bomb some rolls or are very aggressive, but those two fights are in perfect sync to almost be one continuous fight with no recovery. And the first one’s Will penalty directly hurts some saves in the second one.

Anyway, it was fun and a challenge. Good group and good GM.

So I’m seeing that we probably want Dexter to split two standards to Arm it. Trajan could arm it with a full round, but that would literally take the same time and with a lower Int bonus (and no inspiration). If we are cool with that Dexter will go ahead with that plan.

The grotesque demon on the stairs tears Doran's throat out. The pathfinder is dead before he hits the ground. I'll leave Doran's token on the stairs where he fell, greyed out.

Vosk flies up to the control platform. The wizard sees many dials and switches, and immediately recognises that firing the weapon will require two dials to be turned simultaneously - and one is at each end of the control platform. It will take two people to fire, or one person with very long arms. Reach 10 would do it. With finesse, it should be possible to compensate for some of the damage that has been caused to the device. An INT check or a UMD check can be made by a PC operating the console when it is fired. But it won't fire without four prisms being loaded first.

I'll repeat some of this in Discussion for ease of reference.

My bad, I just posted actions based upon what was said earlier (shown above) about activating the device. However I apparently did not reference the OOC post mentioned that gave the extra details. This now creates an action economy quandary though. If Dexter attempts to Arm the weapon (splitting a Standard this round and next) we can have two PC’s fire it right after he acts next turn. But if we wait for Vosk to do it next turn, we won’t be able to fire it until the round After, but will have the slightly higher Modifier from him to negate the damage to the weapon. Thoughts?

Dexter refuses to look at Salazar again, focusing on the prisms and control panel. The lifeless look in his companion’s eyes from the brief glance earlier still haunts him though. The mist descending is very welcome in that regard.

But he buries the tears, jams the second orb into the slot and readies to flip what he thinks is the right switch in the mangled remains of the machine, ”When ready Vosk, count it down. I’ll trigger this half.”

Readied Activation:
Intelligence + 1 of 3 Inspiration Points burned: 1d20 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 1 + (4) = 17

If Knowledge: Engineering would give him a better shot he has that at + 6 instead of Intelligence of +1.

I can’t move Dexter on my phone, the most is blocking access. But he would have at least a 5-ft step available to get in position if that is necessary for activation.

If Vosk gets the obscuring mist up, will the players acting after him need to make those gaze saves? If not, I’ll wait to see if that is what Vosk does before posting.

The gnome grabs the two orbs, takes a deep breath and looks at the wizard, ”Let’s kill this a~%*@@@. Then I can save Sal.”

One or two moves to collect the two orbs? If one, can I then ready to put one in the machine post DD? Also, post DD am I now in gaze range and need a save or is that only on the big bad’s turn?

I know you shouldn't say anything GM, but MAN do I hope the INT and UMD checks have different DC's!

EDIT: As far as getting the remaining Prisms to the controls, next turn Vosk can fly over to the others and Dimension Door two others and himself back to the control panel. Ideally, the two people brought over have the highest charged prisms, not counting Trajan's.

Dexter is planning on grabbing the two orbs from Doran on his next turn. If the teleport doesn’t work he will then wildshape and fly them over to the control panel.

Obviously all that only applies if he is still alive at that point.

Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

The small gnome manages to shift his body just enough to avoid full contact with the falling rubble, but it still hurts.

S+$& s@*% s~*#! This is going very bad.

He rushes up the stairs and yells, ”I’ll get The orbs Doran had over to the control panel, hold the line!”

I am pretty sure we are all going to die here but… I didn’t sign up to NOT save the world!

Double Move going up the stairs

Seeing the shifting position of Sal’s target he issues a simple command, ”Take him out Sal, full power!”

Straight attack on green, no flank trick.

DC 18 Will + Darklife Ring: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 = 13 Darklife Ring gives 5 negative energy resistance

He cringes back from the spell, but one of his rings flares and soaks up a bit of the energy.

Dexter pulls out a wand and taps his chin, ”Well if the demon is so adamant about destroying it, I guess we probably should activate the weapon. I might be able to climb up there if no other way to get a thingy there, but flight is still probably the best choice. But first, time for Salazar to fly AND get a taste of demon.”

Magic Fang on Salazar, 5-ft step, can’t fail DC 12 command to send Sal to Flank (known trick) with Trajan.

I’m cool with fly on Salazar. If you move to him and cast it now then he can get an attack in this round. If you ready to cast it when he comes over he won’t. Either way he will try to get into combat though.

Dexter darts into the room and points his finger at the demon destroying the control panel, ”Feel the taste of the deadly box jellyfish! First, it will sicken you to your stomach. Then you will die!”

Move, cast Ray of Sickening at green.

Same Roll Reroll + 2-star GM: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 = 11

… well, if it hits for some unknown reason, DC 14 Fort save or Sickened for 5m.

Sal trots along and guards his backside.

Are we talking about opening a new door while half of us are removing debuffs and buffing? If so, that seems very unwise. If something else, let me know.

Dexter will take all the scrolls and cast them (if that is cool so no chance of failure) while the others prepare for the demons on the other side of the door.

3rd casting: 1d4 ⇒ 3

That should cover all the wisdom damage. Dexter is happy to carry a prism if we split them up, he’s also fine not carrying one.

”If you are gonna charge them, better do it now. Those demons seem ready to rip us to pieces.”

If they have time before opening the door he will also use a scroll of feather step on Salazar (10m duration).

True of course, but he isn’t not charging it now because he thinks he’ll be able to lately. He isn’t charging it now because he isn’t sure the weapon, at this point, should even be used. And taking a negative level for a ‘maybe use it later’ does not seem practical, and he attempts to be very practical.
