Derrick grunts and swears as he's hit once again, and now he can feel that his strength is fading fast. Even another swipe of his own would probably take him out of the fight, let alone an attack from the sahuagin. He doesn't want to abandon the battle, but for right now, there's very little he can do. So when one of the monsters facing him presents an opening, he kicks to the side, easily landing on the railing of the ship and slipping back behind his comrades. Kill them quick. And get me a healer.

Withdrawing as a full-round action. To quote a wise man, "F*ck this sh*t I'm out."

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Severely wounded as he is, Derrick doesn't like the odds of continuing to stand and fight; he can feel the strength ebbing from his arms, and his breathing is coming ragged and harsh. But he's still pressed by the creature behind him, so a full retreat is unlikely to succeed. Instead, he feints and kicks back just far enough to embed his axe in the railing and reach for his bow. In a moment an arrow is on the string, and he looses it point-blank at the creature before him. Even bloodied as I am, I should hit at this range.

5-foot step back, drawing bow, standard attack. +1 from Combat Marksmanship.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 - 3 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6

Derrick sidesteps back to avoid the first stab from the sahuagins, but then he feels a sharp pain and coughs a spray of fine blood as another trident pierces his back. He twists and wrenches free from the weapon, his axe clenched in hand, and then quickly ducks under yet another attack. Seeing the crew coming to his aid, and hearing Janus's emboldening drumming from belowdeck, Derrick brings his boarding axe about in a quick chop at the sahuagin between himself and the crew members.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 1 - 1 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 8

Yeah, sorry again, everybody. Life's been kind of crazy lately, but hopefully things are getting back on track.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Apologies for my absence. There were a lot of factors, but I'm back now.

Derrick had been working in the rigging when the shouts came, and he quickly looks down to spy the creatures coming aboard the ship. With a scowl and a curse, he drops to the deck and rolls to his feet, coming up beside some of the other crewhands with his boarding axe in hand--the sword has been hidden in his bunk for most of the voyage. He sprints toward the nearest of the enemy and hacks in heavily with the axe, carving a gash through its chest.

Charging the nearest sahuagin, taking slight liberty with the distance since you mentioned movement would be fudged a little for the first round. Also, Derrick's switched his Weapon Attunement to the boarding axe in the days on the ship.

Charge Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12 Er, he tries to carve a gash.
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
AC is 16 for this round.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Sounds like fun, Conri! The getting drunk part, at least.

I'm also good to move forward.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick stares blankly at the other crewman as he stammers and starts. At first the reactions toward him had been surprising, but by now they were old news. Derrick couldn't even find it in himself to be disappointed or angry about the way people responded to his appearance anymore. Instead, he simply nods, says, "Thanks," and turns to move on his way.

As he makes his way toward the lower deck, though, he can't help but notice the gathering of several strange passengers. A tiefling with all sorts of strange flasks and a gun on his hip, a mountain of a man with a massive drum, and a woman who looks to be a little more than half an elf... Strange company to have on a ship like this.

So while normally he'd just be about his business, Derrick lingers nearby, listening to the odd group. He feigns examining some rigging for the time, hoping they might not notice him... Fat chance, with that bloody sword on your back.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Although he doesn't stand out with great size and foreign dress like Janus, Derrick also parts the crowd as he moves. The path around him is smaller, and usually separates only once he pushes into someone and they turn to see him. He's tall and has the bearing of a warrior, but that alone isn't the cause for the berth given him. It's more a feeling that creeps up when you look at the man, especially if he gets close. There's something offputting about him that goes beyond the weapons and armor he's wearing, and it's hard to put a finger on what... at least until he gets close. The hooded man's gaunt face is mostly obscured, but it's obvious that he has horrifying scarring from his jaw going up, and etched in an unnatural pattern.

Once he reaches the ship, Derrick pauses to hear the captain's speech, glancing over his shoulder from time to time. They can't have followed me. And they wouldn't attack in a crowd like this. Secrecy. More likely if they find out, they'll send someone with the next ship. Have to be ready by then. He takes a rare moment to breathe easy, but soon enough his hand on the sword hilt at his hip, and he's tense again. Let's get moving.

When the colonists are aboard, Derrick moves to one of the crew who's directing them and stops. After a moment too long, he taps the boarding axe on his belt. "I'm part of the crew. Where are the quarters?"

Killed? Derrick's fate there was left off-screen, it'd be a little naive to assume he died... especially in Ravenloft ;)

Loup Blanc's character build here, with appearance and personality as well. Backstory should be up soon, I hope--I know we've talked about the basics, Jon, but I'm planning to get the full thing typed up and posted when I can. In terms of party roles and plans, Derrick's a frontliner and switch-hitter, very solid with a bow as well as his sword. His combat style is archery, but that's mainly for a few decent feats down the line--as time goes forward, he'll probably focus mainly on staying power at the front. He's also got a decent skill setup that can adapt and grow as time goes on.

HP: 1d10 ⇒ 6 Hey, that's what I already used to calculate.

Hey all, posting this in all my games to let people know I'll be away for a few days. My family is headed to camp later today, and I won't have Internet or my computer while I'm there. I should be back and posting Friday afternoon/evening (Eastern Time), but please push the game as needed, botting my character if you need to do so. Thanks!

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick pauses as Wyatt rushes forward, and the others call to go. Finally, he looks to his battle-brother. "Bannock. We need to go. Better we live to fight again, and return to cleanse this creature from our city."

He steps back, but doesn't fully retreat until he's sure the cleric is on his way as well. "Come!"

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

We "scored several hits," but none of them dealt damage--I'd wager this thing has DR of some kind.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick leads with his swords, blades flashing with the fury of fervor, the swiftness of magic, and the skill that comes only from years of dedicated training.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Bonus Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

I'll have claimed the Bracers by now, since nobody else is doing so. And they are useful to me as a frontliner.

Derrick follows behind Wyatt, trusting the man to lead them back to the final monster that lurks under their society. When it appears, he is offput by the laugh, but he stands strong and steps forward. "Perhaps I will die this day. Perhaps we all will perish. But we will live on again, comforted in the knowledge our souls will return to this world. Can you say the same?" In a flash, his swords are in his hands, and he lunges forward. "Repent, beast, for today you meet your end!"

But there's this thing called initiative, so I'll wait to roll my attacks.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

My apologies, been a little crazy with my life of late. I could benefit from the bracers, true, but my AC is already pretty solid, so I figured I'd let someone else take a shot at them if they wanted.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick uses the momentum of the fiend's attack and his own dodge to continue his assault, harrying the foe with rapid slashes and thrusts. Surely he'll fall soon!

Attack 1: 1d20 + 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (11) + (2) + 9 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Attack 2: 1d20 + 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (13) + (3) + 9 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Bonus Attack: 1d20 + 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (20) + (4) + 9 = 33
Critical Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Is the Shield Other effect still in place? If so, I guess 10 of that went to Bannock.

Derrick gasps as the blade pierces his flesh and it feels as though his body is burning and melting around the weapon. He grits his teeth and fights back, though, knowing that he must see this wicked monster fall with his own eyes.

Also I forgot the benefits of the Bless last round, not that it mattered much for two of the rolls.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (5) + (2) + 9 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Attack 2: 1d20 + 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (14) + (2) + 9 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Bonus Attack: 1d20 + 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (8) + (1) + 9 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick raises his sword in a battle stance, his eyes blazing with righteous fury. "No, beast. Now you die. And though men may live again when one body falls, for monsters such as you, there is only the black abyss. I give you no mercy. Only justice." With that, he leaps forward, the blade flashing as fast as ever before.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Bonus Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

...Or not. I'm glad fumbles aren't a thing in 5E, or Derrick would have given a lovely speech before severing his major arteries and bleeding at the creature's feet.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Apologies, I kind of last track of what was going on here and didn't realize I as up again. Assuming the map is right...

Derrick lunges forward to Bannock's side, his sword flashing in and out with inhuman speed--the weapon is truly a marvel, and coupled with Derrick's natural speed...

Attack 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Bonus Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

I did indeed miss some healing from Wyatt--still good that Bannock patched me up, though, because I'd have still been pretty low. Now I'm back to full.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

I'm pretty sure it is--I took quite a beating in the one fight, and didn't get totally healed up after that cause we weren't sure what came next. thanks for the assist!

Derrick continues laying about with the shortsword, its magic lending him even greater speed than he usually possesses.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Bonus Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Woops, sorry I messed that up everybody. Cue crazy wuxia monk stuff!

Derrick ducks and weaves, easily avoiding the attacks of the fake constables, and he returns with a lighting-flash of his own attacks, the shortsword blazing forward with inhuman speed. Shortsword of speed unfortunately doesn't stack with my Martial Arts ability since they both work on bonus actions, but it gives a bonus to attack and damage so it's very nice!

Attack 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Bonus Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
These attacks focus on one constable at a time, although if one drops I'll move on to a second (not likely in this round)

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

"Perhaps you could take a look, Inspector?" Derrick gestures to the desk, his swords still sheathed. "Your eyes are keen and your wits are sharper than ours, after all."

Probably something Charisma based: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Haha, sorry everyone

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Sorry, I didn't really have anything to add. That said, if we want to avoid Marco having weapons with quickness, I can use the shortsword.

Derrick's just standing by at the sound of footsteps, ready to engage whatever threat next presents itself.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Horror: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Derrick had been quiet since the fight, wordlessly accepting healing and letting his brother in faith decide what to do with the foul monsters. The room is nauseating, and disturbing, but Derrick holds his decorum and doesn't let it bother him overmuch. There is always more work to be done for the faith.

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick continues his flurry of attacks, stabbing and slashing with his sword as an extension of his body, a whirlwind of danger.

Shortsword Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Shortsword Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Unarmed Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick grunts as he tries to dodge back from the valet's attacks, but they slip through his defenses, and he feels a pair of bitter, sharp jolts in his gut. His discipline holds, though, and he doesn't allow himself to look down and see how bad it is. He simply redoubles his own offensive, stabbing with his short sword and following it up with a lightning-quick punch.

Shortsword Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Shortsword Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Woops, I'm here, just don't really have anything to do in Gameplay--Derrick didn't want to jump in as the situation seemed a little unclear, intentionally so!

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick claps a hand on Khalid's shoulder. "Don't be hard on yourself, friend. You searched as best you could." He looks to Bannock and nods, a grim smile on his face. "My thanks for the blessing, battle-brother. Let us pursue this evil with haste!" So saying, he sets off down the passageway, swords drawn.

Derrick leaps toward the remaining jackalwere, leading with a drawn sword of cold iron and following with a second slash and an elbow.

Sword Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Sword Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Unarmed Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Derrick, for his part, realizes that while they have the initiative, the group may want to avoid drawing more attention. He focuses his inner power and pushes it outward, the force of his will and spirit affecting the very workings of the world, trapping the sound generated here and dissipating it without release. The monk comes back into view as he releases this energy from his clasped palms, and a sudden silence fills the room.

Spending 2 ki points to cast silence, which negates sound coming from or passing through a 20-foot-radius sphere; if I can cover the whole room with that, I'd like to, but at the very least I'm gonna stick it so it covers the doorway and wall to main hall outside, so nobody decides to investigate the sounds of combat (in case anyone would).

Male Tiefling Slayer 2 | HP 0/24 | AC 18, touch 14, FF 14; CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +2 | Init +5, Perception +6 (darkvision 60 ft.)

Whoops, yeah, I meant to post an agreement post, although I wasn't sure how since Derrick is staying quiet and he's invisible, so...

Derrick creeps to a corner and crouches slightly, ready to move if necessary, light on his feet and invisible to the eye.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 And crapped out on that one

Derrick quickly shuffles to the wall and stays along there, even grabbing a handhold midway up at one point to avoid being jostled by the servants. In all the rush, he isn't able to pay as much attention to the details further down the hall, and so he merely continues to tag along with Marco.

That sounds like a plan to me, GM. Just in reserve in case anything happens.

Derrick remains quiet near Marco, not wanting to surprise his friend or give him away. He stays nearby, slipping through the door after Marco opens it, and standing to the side as Marco and the apparent valet have an exchange. Seems strange. It may not be worth checking out, though, and Derrick would prefer to be there to help back up Marco in case trouble stirs, so he simply stands by, watching and waiting.

Derrick nods as the spell takes hold, and moves to join Marco, although he still steps quietly and does his best not to do anything too obvious.

Sorry about the delay, thought I posted this before.

"Aw, that's all well an' good, innit, 'private property' an' all, yer certainly a good ol' fella huh. Call the Constables on me, will ya, shove off, ya tosser, you can't talk to me like that. Park a wagon the middle o' the street an' expect folks not to bump into it, you oughta know better 'n that." At this point, Derrick devolves into a colorful string of street-lingo curses, and when the man or men inevitably grow angry enough to try and lay hands on him, he turns tail and flees, making sure to stay just ahead of them in hopes of drawing them away for a time before losing them in an alley or simply scaling a wall. At least Marco will have a good head start in, and Wyatt can probably sneak in as well.

Derrick pauses for a second, and then lets his old instincts kick in. "Wot you mean, wot'm I up to? Wot you doin' wit a wagon in the middle o' the road? Ain't my fault when I'm tryna go 'bout my business an' there's a wagon in the way, got glasses an' all jus' sittin' 'ere where any ol' body could come 'long an' knock 'em about. 'Ow 'bout you get yer 'ead out yer arse for a tick an' then we won't 'ave any trouble. Cor!"

Once it becomes apparent that the guard is too focused on the wagon situation to notice people sneaking in, Derrick turns to Wyatt. "Keep an eye out, friend. I'm joining Marco, and hopefully we'll make an opening for you to join us." With that, he waits for a moment and darts in to stand alongside his old friend from the streets.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Erp. I didn't forget to mark a point of Inspiration anywhere along the line, did I? Sorry, guys.

Derrick nods and keeps an eye out, ready to step forward and draw attention if it looks like Marco's in trouble.

Personally I vote for going in tomorrow, once we're rested and good to go. I'd rather not have another night go by with us doing nothing of value to stop things.

Derrick had begun to walk down his chosen route even as the others spoke, but he paused as Bannock spoke up. Now he looks to his brother-in-arms, his other friends and companions, and after a moment, he nods. "You speak wisdom, Bannock. We should wait until morning."

He looks over his shoulder in the direction of their destination. "We're gonna show them bastards summat when we get there, tho'," he breathes.
