@Orcetta: As usual, you get your common glances. Amongst the 'Aliens of Sandpoint' as the half-dozen of you are called, you are the most accepted. "Gr-gr-greetings.", smiles old woman, Niska Mvashti, escorted by her not quite as elderly daughter Koya.

Orcetta:

Niska, an aged druid woman with sorcerous fey blood, is the only one in town who actually knows what a leshian is. You two have shared herbal tea together in her large mansion in the southern portion of the central Sandpoint. Old when the town itself was founded, her longevity has surprised many, and druids from around the area seek her wisdom, often coming weekly for her counsel.

@Raven: The bright sun is uncomfortable to you, as it always is, and even as you walk through the town, the overall spirit of Sandpoint is high enough that your presence is not even ignored, but acceptable as some well-wishers hope to see you enjoy yourself and that, if Desna herself smiles upon the town, you might be changed with it. Among the few in town friendly to you, Abstalar Zantus, the new high-priest of Sandpoint, greets you as you slowly make your way through the bustling town. "Surprised to see you out and about, miss Rothven.", smiles the cleric. "What brings you out for the festival? You can't have changed your ways that easily."

Raven:

Besides the other Aliens, Abstalar Zantus is the most friendly to you. He is aware of your religious preference, although his love of debate and openness about other faiths leaves him to be not nearly as zealotous as some of Sandpoint's other residents. In fact, it was him who offered you the mortuary position.

Hey guys! So some minor things I'd like to have done quickly before we really kick things off.

1. If you have electronic character sheets (which I think is what everyone is doing), please use Paizo's url encoding create the link instead of just pasting it as text. Paizo has it set up so links not using the url formatting will not only not be clickable, but also with an extra space in there, making copy-pasting the link that much more tedious on my end.

To do so, the format is [url=http://charactersheet]Name you want for the link[ / u r l], with no spaces in the end part.

2. Similarly, if you have a backstory, please link that as well! I've seen 2 of 'em IIRC.

3. Please let me know of any long term goals you have, either for in Sandpoint or for your PC. You can message me on here or via FB if you want it more private.

Thanks!

As everyone goes about their normal days, there is a bit of excitement in the air. The annual Swallowtail Festival is about to begin; this year, the ceremony is particularly noteworthy due to the inauguration of the new church of Desna. The smell of various baked goods, the sounds of pavilions being decorated and children playing on the warm day is truly a blessing from the Star Dreamer herself.

All of you are noteworthy in town for dethroning the wandering huntress Shelelu as being the most exotic resident of Sandpoint. In various ways, though, you are all accepted, even if grudgingly. Some women scorn the wandering eyes of their husbands from curves of Orcetta, but the farmers adore her more for her ability to listen to the crops and aid their harvests. Even as a dhampir Urgathoan, Raven dutily performs her role as town undertaker, having been in town for nearly two years in that job. Ayanna nimbly performs various small jobs in town and bears the most scrutiny amongst the group due to her nimble fingers, but the children find her cute, playful energy endearing. KABOOM! arguably gets the most scowls and an equal amount of praise in keeping the junkyard rat free and mostly goblin free, himself excluded. Finally, Sivilief, the most diabolical of the local exotics, is skilled enough in his alchemy and does respectable business, even if haggling with the strangely scaled kobold is nigh impossible.

What are your preparations for the Swallowtail festival?

Lantern Lodge

Just in the character sheet section; Those don't need to be quick listed like the other stats.

Now that's everyone's posted, we'll get started soon! I need to do one last review of the character sheets, make sure everything looks good, and get some maps ready.

Thanks for your patience everyone!

Lantern Lodge

So 3 important pieces of information!

1. For your profiles, if you don't have the full character sheet info in there, please post a link to the electronic version of the character sheet! Mostly for my information :)

2. Hannah has it correct, but you can create non-PFS profiles! This way, you don't have to use up a PFS character number to play here :) Just go to My Account, then go to the Messageboard Alias section and create a new alias! You may need to rename your PFS profile so you can use it for the messageboard alias, but as I don't think any of you have posted the 10 times required to lock the profile name, I think you all should be good :)

3. So there's an etiquette to Play by Post text. By using various forum tags, different speech or text is represented. All of the forum tags are actually below the forum post text box; you can see it by clicking on the show button next to "How to format your text"

Here's the quick and dirty version:
"Dialogue is bolded, and should have quotation marks for grammatical accuracy.", says the GM using [b ][ /b] without spaces.
Anything that's an aside or out of the gameplay should use the ooc tags by wrapping the text in [ooc ][ /ooc] without spaces.
I think character thoughts should be italicized using [i ][ /i] without spaces, thought the GM.

Click Me!:

If you want something to be somewhat private, you can wrap [spoiler =Title of Spoiler ][ /spoiler] without a spaces (except for the title). I'll use that occasionally to direct something to only a certain PC or not bog up the page.

To use Paizo's die roller, type in the dice expression between [d i c e ][ / dice], with no spaces.
Likelyhood of awesome: 1d20 + 111 ⇒ (12) + 111 = 123

The Imposter!

While the High Council goes on the occasional adventure or task for supporting Angrymar, there is still other governing to do. Taxes must be collected, justice must be meted, and transportation secured for goods, supplies, and trade. This falls onto the rest of the council, handpicked men and women who have been a part of the birth of Angrymar at one point of another. Their motivations vary from a sense of duty, coin, or even a probable case of Ustalavholm Syndrome. Nonetheless, they keep things in check while the arguably more powerful members of the council conduct personal business and special missions.

It has been four days since the High Council has left on their most recent journey, to look into the alleged troll sightings as well as finding a missing citizen, lost in the swamps of the Narlmarshes. However, sightings of Commissar Fauklaw are coming up from highly grateful, yet confused citizens. There have been three reports over the past three days.

Report 1:

A man, involved with a barfight, says that the Commissar came to his aid, knocking out his aggressor in a single blow. Surprisingly, the Commissar apologized for making the mess as a table broke when the unconscious foe fell into it, and paid for the damages AND offered a potion to the restore the other to good health. He left before authorities could arrive.

Report 2:

While many of the Erastites left a month prior to start their new town, some still remain under Jhod's worship and guidance. On a day Jhod was away from his shrine, the Commissar arrived and participated in worship, much to the dismay of the others. He quietly left after the service.

Report 3:

While out gathering food, a pair of hunters noticed the Commissar outside. To their shock and awe, the Commissar was petting a deer with a heavy, gauntleted hand. The men decided to ignore the quarry, lest they mess with a favored animal of the Commissar.

At this point, as the other Council members, you must do some research onto this other Commissar, to hopefully find him and figure out what's going on. This is done by picking which Council member you are representing, then select which report you are investigating, and finally choosing which skill you are using for your investigation.

Available 'Low' Council Members and the skills they can use:

Svetlana - Councillor (Diplomacy, Kn: Local, Sense Motive)
Jhod - High Priest (Kn: Religion, Perception, Sense Motive)
Caelith - Council Enforcer (Bluff, Kn: Religion, Perception)
Oleg - Treasurer (Kn: Local, Perception, Sense Motive)
Kestel - Warden (Bluff, Intimidate, Perception)
Akiros - Mercenary (not part of the council, but someone trusted to look into this) (Diplomacy, Intimidate, Perception)

Howdy,

I'm trying to order some Pathfinder Society scenarios to some GMs for this weekend, but I have been unable to complete my order.

After I select the gift recipients, clicking on any of the other payment buttons causes the site to forget the selected recipients. This includes the Confirm Order button. When going to that page, the Digital Gifts button is in red and the Place Order button is disabled.

Is there a way to get this order processed by this afternoon?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

A ruddy, friendly man greets the High Council along with a woman at his side. Energetically, he begins his request. "Great councilors, I am Loy Rezbin. You have my respect for making this part of the Kamelands safe for the first time that I can ever remember hearing. Coming down here from Rostland has been a wonderful adventure for myself and my lovely wife, Latricia, here,", pausing a second to motion to his wife to curtsy politely.

"However, myself, and a few of the residents, just aren't, well... angry enough for things here at Fystton. So I'd like to start a new village for us. Now we aren't revolting or anything!", the man waving his hands frantically to show his sincerity in a panicky, awkward manner. "We appreciate the stability you brought to this neck of the woods. But I myself and some others feel that if we were to settle elsewhere, we can create a haven for those that with to be a part of nature and less angry. I figure, we can create our own place, and as you expand, you'll eventually reach us and have an established community waiting for you. Let us live in peace at that point and we'd provide you with the appropriate taxes and some natural raw goods."

"Now I'm betting you're thinking where I plan for this to be. Well, the planned location is by a ford on the Skunk River to the west. There used to be a tatzlwyrm den there that you guys rooted out; heard about from some loggers who are working the area."

Loy smiles brightly before adding one last line. "And, if you would be so kind, I wouldn't mind some support from you for this. I'm thinking about 8,000 crowns of supplies to get some people moved there and help setup buildings and make it through the first winter would suffice. Do that, and you'll have a loyal, peaceful village waiting for you. What do you say?"

There are three obvious options for you to decide, but of course you can come up with your own suggestion. The options are:

1. Deny the request.
2. Allow the request, but not fund it in any way.
3. Allow the request and provide some support of 2 BP.

Feel free to post your responses to this thread. If you have any questions, you can private message me on here or email me.

Please make your response by Saturday, November 22nd.

"Well, there is Thunderpuss..." noting the creature's large size that even she or Kufieno could ride with ease, although Sealman may be too much dwarf for anyone to ride.

"We should move slowly; if there are any more ghouls or other undead abominations, Irori will grant me the power to locate them."

While Rissi detects magic, I'll detect evil. We'll find all the things and ruin the GMs fun! Mwa ha ha... well, only because if we just went through a field of 13+ ghouls, it would make sense that more would follow in here.

I have a question. If a play-by-post scenario was started August 14, 2014 but ended after it, would the players who were using aasimar or tiefling characters during it have to change the race during the scenario or after it, or would they be fine?

My opinion is that they should be fine. Due to con and work business, a PbP I started is already behind schedule and won't finish before GenCon. PC had the new aasimar before the post was made. Why punish the player for that? However, I will mark on the chronicle that the PC was created before the cutoff date and was being played before August 14th despite the fact that the chronicle date is afterwards.

Other solution would be to end the scenario prematurely after that PC hits 3 encounters for the 1XP if the answer is no. That's the worst case scenario, since that seems like an unnecessary action that is being forced against the positive intent of allowing people a final chance to create a final aasimar/tiefling.

My thoughts; this is how I'm calling it unless Mike/John correct me.

Lantern Lodge

Awesome :)

I have two options depending on the party make-up: level 5 cleric of pharasma (who will be going into Envoy of Balance), aimed at buffs and channels (healing first, negative at level 7). Other one is a level 6 dwarf guntank (who is arguably a bit weaker until he can Vital Strike it next level).

Oh no! I just realized I have 2 players from 2 different PbP in this game! Le gasp!

I'll join another one of you games to actually use a higher level PC for once if you'll have me :)

It's not bad software. It's a great reference when building PCs, although you have to be aware of the rules as the software is good, but not perfect, and can let some things illegal slide in or get the math crunching numbers wrong.

Still, if you need a PC generated quickly, it's a great tool for that. And the character sheets it prints out are incredibly handy, too.

<PFS Disclaimer>
Do note, though, that for PFS play, owning HeroLab or using it does not constitute as ownership of a resource for PFS play.
</PFS Disclaimer>

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

They have their own. Go ahead and use Paizo's :) If it was like it was 2 years ago, they'll also have HeroLab stations so if you have some time and wish to create some characters after all, you can go ahead and create your character and print it out!

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

A couple of other things:

Bring a table tent: while your friends will know who you are, you still have 2-4 other people that don't. It'll help the GM and others address you appropriately.

Likewise, make a good introduction to your fellow players. Do it in character for more fun and interact with the new players as well as your friends.

If there's a bit of time (either during initial setup or during a break), discuss tactics and roles. See who can cover what and what can be done to shore up weaker areas.

Finally, have fun! Make awesome stories with the new people that you will meet and have a blast rolling dice with 'em!

EDIT: Just as a note for your inquiry: Both The Confirmation and The Horn of Aroden have some great RP elements involved, albeit with different timings. Hopefully you're playing The Confirmation first as it'll work best thematically as well as give you a better boost (gold-wise) to handle the potential challenges in The Horn of Aroden.

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

I'm running several Horns of Aroden myself, so if you come to my table, I'd be happy to give you guys a fun experience!

Other advice:

While the GM may/may not audit your PC, if you know your character has any interesting/complex tactics or tricks to them, let the GM know in advance. That way, the GM isn't caught off-guard and if there are any gray areas, those can be worked out before the game instead of during it.

Bring plenty of fluids!

If you're new to Pathfinder Society as a whole, read the free Guide to the Pathfinder Society to understand how the organized play system works and what the expectations are. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here on the boards :)

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

No, this falls under the rule that you cannot apply the same chronicle sheet to a specific character multiple times. Although The Confirmation is repeatable, it is only so for different characters. This also includes GM credit; you cannot play a scenario, then GM it and apply your GM credit to the same PC that had played it (since there'd be two copies marked for that PC).

There are plenty of repeatable level 1 scenarios and modules, though, if you if you wish to minimize scenario impact. These include We Be Goblins, Master of the Fallen Fortress, and First Steps pt1.

Lantern Lodge

Yeah, the scenario itself may have its own limits of minimum tables (for example, 5 simultaneous tables for Siege of the Diamond City), but shouldn't be requiring 15 tables as once.

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

I have to share Nick's sentiments. In about a year and a half's time, I went from no PFS play in western South Dakota to about 60 players, half of which are consistent regular players for our events. I also have a half-dozen reliable GMs and several others who have chipped in for a game or two when needed.

Just start small, play in a public spot with a few friends and have pregens on hand for walk-ins.

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

The Stolen Heir does require quite a bit of study about Andoran/Taldan/Galtan history to really make it shine. You're right the RP opportunities are great in there. But it'll take a lot of prepwork to get all of the NPCs properly 'fleshed' out to make the RP shine like it should, otherwise it's a bit of a lackluster scenario as the combats are fairly tame except for the foolhardy.

A better alternative would be The Horn of Aroden; somewhat similar in premise, but much of the focus is on only 2 NPCs, 3 perhaps if you wish to give the quest giver her time. Like Stolen Heir, if you don't flesh out the NPCs, the scenario may look bleak, but the primary NPC is easier to work with I think as the scenario sorta falls into some familiar tropes.

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

Yup, you are correct CaptainMarvelous. Do note that the scenario states that succeeding grants 2PP and I don't believe that's been changed to include Secondary Success conditions.

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

Season 4's Severing Ties is my favorite go-to backup scenario. I'll also vouch for Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment and Mist of Mwangi.

I'd also like to suggest #2-01 and #2-02: Before the Dawn pts 1 and 2. Pt1 is a great RP/stealth mission in a jungle pirate town while Pt2 is great for those that want to bash a lot of heads in and *spoiler omitted*.

Fromper ninja'ed what I was going to say, so just to suggestions.

Yes, you can change anything you wish about your character until you play the character at level 2+.

That being said, I'd do what Fromper suggested, make the Int 7 instead of 8; one of the best things about being human is that no matter what, you get 2 skill points per level (min of 1 SP from class, then the human +1).

I'd also drop the Extra Channel for Selective Channel. With a 14 Cha, you can usually make sure to not affect (most of) the bad guys while combat healing the party.

One last thing to consider if you're going to do PFS long term is perhaps make the Strength 17 instead of 18. Yes, I know for the early levels, the -2 damage and -1 to hit is going to hurt, but the point buy you get back means you can have a 14 Con instead: at level 1 you'd be walking with an impressive 14 HP if you keep Toughness and the +1 HP Favored Class Bonus.

For your last trait, if you happen to get the PDF of it, the Faction Guide has a cool trait called Exalted of the Society that offers 1 extra channel a day. Birthmark is great since you always have your divine focus, and Fate's Favored plus Divine Favor = early level awesomeness.

Lantern Lodge

I would think that this is the right thread.

Without knowing how Paizo does their database stuff... I'd assume it'd be gone. Without the DBA wanting to go in and manually add a -1 for your account (assuming that their system would allow that without messing up the character ID counter for the PFS player table), I don't see that coming up as an option.

Again, my assumptions just from what I know about databases and what I'm guessing their system MAY look like.

Gotcha. That makes more sense, but again, look at the Crane Wing fallout. Players were given the option to change their feats Crane feats (even to Crane Style), but weren't allowed to rebuild the characters outright.

The point is, we don't know how much is going to be (or has been) invalidated, right? I mean, I'm on the boards way more than is healthy, and I never knew this had changed... what else might I have missed? So when the beginer says, "so, if I read thru these rules on Summoner, I should be able to create one right?" and I say "sure, I'll read them thru too and double check your stuff next week..."... only the rule book might not be valid. and the reversal may only appear in a board post?!

What would I have done if she had decided to run a kung-fu monk, rather than a pooki-mon guy? Heck! what am I to do if there's been a change to something on summoner that I missed on-line?

I wish I could provide a better answer than this but: you let her know and help her correct it as best you can, just like for any other player.

I don't mean to sound condescending about it if it appears that way; my concern is that I feel you're getting a bit paranoid about this and I don't want you to pass that along to a relatively new player. If I am taking your posts out of context, I'm sorry, but then please let me know how you feel about this.

You are correct that we usually don't know when something is going to be "tweaked" or "corrected", but compared to all of the rules, spells, and options available, those are for a very, very, small percentage of things. Don't kick yourself if you do miss something; just work with it as best you can when you do find something or are informed about it. And if you want to ask us, the community, about any summoner questions you have from your player, ask and I'm sure myself or one of the many brilliant minds on the boards can find something to help you.

Matt Thomason wrote:

IMHO, the best solution would be:

GM waives the issue in order to get today's game running, and annotates the player's chronicle to say "character gets a free rebuild due to rules change, and must use it to become legal before their next game"

Maybe, but that's not a legitimate solution. The character is legal, but it's just that the action (brass knuckles and monk unarmed strike damage) is illegal. In cases of equipment changing, it's been typically allowed to resell the item at full value and if the player was honestly unaware, I as a GM would be ok with the player doing so, marking the chronicle sheet as to why due to it being a special case.

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

@nosig: I'm sorry you have to potentially bum out your player, but how much is going to be invalidated, though? For a summoner, I honestly don't recall much of that way getting reversed or anything, so you can honestly say in layman's terms occasionally that there may be some things in there that may have been updated or altered since. If she has a question, she could look it up (and/or perhaps ask you or another experienced player for help). That way, you nip the problem before it becomes a potentially bigger problem later.

I know you don't like it this situation, but there isn't a need to add unnecessary stress to a young player still learning the game.

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

@Jiggy: I reread the section. I can see it both ways now:

From the first paragraph of page 19 in the GttPS:
For additional rules clarifications,
please view the official Pathfinder Society FAQ online at
paizo.com/pathfindersociety/faq. If a clarification on the
FAQ or messageboard directly affects your character, print
that section of the FAQ or messageboard ruling out and
bring it to games in which you play that PC to cut down on
any confusion or conflicts between yourself and a GM who
might not be familiar with the specifics of the situation.

When I posted, I read from the second sentence only; taken with the sentence before that, I can see your point of view. This is just from the Guide, and messageboard would be implied to be the PFS messageboard.

Here's the Thread of Messageboard Clarifications that Mike Brock created (with your help at that!). The pertinent one is the 'Follow Paizo FAQ Blog Posts'.

The question is, then, is a statement from a Paizo Developer considered an 'online clarification' that then must be obeyed?

Personally, I'd like to think yes, but I'm sure there'll be those who argue both ways.

Lantern Lodge 5/5 *

Yeah, it's something that has no easy solution. The best way to put it is page 19 of the Guide states that FAQ or messageboard rulings do affect your PC and to show him the SKR posts about brass knuckles.

Note that the brass knuckles ruling should be considered legit as it is from SKR (as lead designer before leaving Paizo) and that the backlash of the ruling (removing a cheap way monks could get past pesky metal based DRs with their full damage unarmed strikes at reasonable levels) is one of the reasons for the eventual Flurry of Changes for the monk

If you need to, you can also try running your own con! All you need is a minimum of 15 tables over a reasonable period (3-4 days) and each GM gets a special race boon. Just for a simple local run, it's not that difficult if you're willing to put the time into covering the 3 basics (location, GMs, and enough interest to fill tables). Talk to your regional VO for help and they can guide you through what you need to do :)

The GenCon game list has a few great choices for kids:

The Confirmation is designed as an entry level scenario for brand new players. It has a nice mix of lore, exploration, and combat and goes over the tenets of the Pathfinder Society in the game world.

We Be Goblins! is a hilarious one-shot scenario where the players instead use pre-generated Goblin PCs in an epic quest to secure more fireworks for your tribe! It's silly, unusual, and a lot of fun.

We Be Goblins, Too! is the sequel to the first We Be Goblins that continues the story of the four goblin heroes from before a they try to become the new king or queen of their own tribe! Thing are stepped a notch in this scenario (level 3 instead of level 1) if they want something with a bit more meat to it for action and goblin antics.
